Total Gym, is it good?

i have seen the Total Gym on tv with that guy chuck. It looks like a good thing to do a all body work out for toning and just keeping thin. It sounds nice becasue it does streatching while working out but i am not sure about it. has anyone tryed it or just have any opinion on it?

Total Gym doesn't allow a large enough external load of resistance, so what's going to happen is that you'll put it on the highest spot, plateau and then it will be only for maintaining...

Its good to start. Currently I have purchased a Gazelle and Total Gym to workout at home because I can get a descent workout out of it. I'm sure in about a year, it wont be as challenging as it once was, and i'll move on to a Gym membership. Ill still be able to use the home equipment when the weather is bad, or when I can't find the time to make it to the gym. Hope that helps.

Your body can usually adapt to exercises in 4-6 weeks. (Depending on the situation) If I was in your situation, I would jsut get a couple of dumbbells, a stability ball and a bench... You could do the same workouts as on the Total Gym, plus it would be much more variety and difficulty than the Total Gym...

Total gym and Gazelle? Holy hell, we have Tony Little and Chuck Norris in the same room. I'm sure there will be some sort of universal implosion.

**Purchasing free weights would be a better alternative than the Total gym.

:D Gotta love infocommmericals. I agree with the rest, free weights. You won't get much different answer on any decent fitness board where people actually know what it takes to be fit and strong.

Add my vote for free weights. You'll find them uncomfortable/awkward at first. Your body will become accustomed to them in approximately 4 weeks.

I agree with everyone.........but here's the deal: whatever it takes to get you off your ass and working out. The Total Gym is better than nothing and if you feel safe and it gives you some kind of motivation to get off the couch, then it's great....bottom line. You will see results as a beginner because you're coming from nothing. But if you manage to stay consistant and continue to grow and develop with hard work and dedication you will see the comments made above come into play. You will only be able to get so far with a system like this. You can get good workouts....actually better workouts by spending a lot less money with simple free weights as stated by Dex above.

ok thanks all. i would have replyed sooner but i just got back from a cruise. and on the cruise i used their gym every day and it was great. i think i will just take a bus to the gym because that is why i was wanting to get a home gym, cause i dont drive yet. but thanks again all you did help.

I have total gym and i find thats its pretty big for my house to use.
