To happiness...and beyond!

Ugh...

I just weighed myself and I'm 194.....AHH!! *pulls hair out* .... I thought I was done with these numbers but I can't get out of them! 193-195lbs is the BAIN OF MY EXISTENCE!!

I've been working so hard, and eating what I thought was right....but yet I can't seem to beat the scale.....

I don't know if it's because TOM is coming up...or if I"m actually not eating as healthy as I think...

time to buckle down and really start counting the calories..... :(

just a drive by right now, as I'm so peeved with the scale......I might toss end up stomping on it, and then tossing it out the window.

Hi Tik,

Don't let this get to you. The scale is just a number. How do you feel? How are your clothes fitting? How do you look- thinner? How are the measurements? Losing inches? If you are losing inches and not losing weight you are probably gaining muscle. Don't let the number on the scale dictate how you feel. You are definitely on the right track. Remember this is a lifestyle change not a diet. The weight loss will come. You are in this for the long haul, right? There are going to be weeks where you don't lose weight- that is just the way it is. This is what separates the people that want to change their lifestyle and be thinner and healthier from the ones that don't. I know you got this in you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!

You are right when you say the biggest obstacle is yourself-lol. Let me tell you a story-lol. When I went from 5K to 10K I had a hell of time once my 5 K was done to keep running. My body and mind wanted to stop. I couldn't break through that 5K wall. So what I did was I changed from distance to time. I knew I ran 5K in about 23 or so minutes so I started running 30 minutes. I find when I am running outside that running one way for 15 minutes and then running back for the other 15 got me past that mind block of 5KM. When I ran for time I didn't really know how far I was running until I was all done. Once I got past that 5 KM then I did 6( increasing the time each week) and so on. A couple of weekends ago- I ran for 55 minutes straight- after adding 10 minutes of running to my outside runs each week. I then got in my car and drove where I ran- know what- I ran the whole 10K in 55 minutes. You should have seen me- you'd have thought I ran the Boston Marathon-LMAO. I then figured out what most runners know that running is definitely a mind sport. You mind determines how far you want to run not your body. Your body will keep going as long as your mind says it can. Weird but it is SO true. Now I wonder what my mind says about the possibility of me running a half or God forbid a whole marathon-LOL. Have a great weekend.

OMG!!! Congrats!! 10k in 55 minutes?!!? That's fabulous!!! Wow!! Good for you! Are you going to set that goal for your race? or are you going to try and beat it!!? And cowboy, I think you could totally do a half marathon! you have such a great attitude and so much determination!!!

And you're completely right, I think running is a lot in your head. I know if I run and look at the clock, it gets harder to finish my interval time...whereas if I ignore it, and concentrate just on my strides, I can keep going! It's amazing! I think I need to get it in my head that i can do it...the more I train, and work towards getting use to running, I think I'll be surprised at what I can do! I'm already noticing that i'm running more comfortably now...just getting use to the motion will probably make it easier and more comfortable for me! :)

Thank you cowboy, as always, you are so encouraging and supportive! You are right on so many levels!! :coolgleamA:

Hey Tik,

Ive been slowly reading your diary up to date (havent done all of it yet lol!!!) and you are very motivational!!!!!! With lots of get up and go.

Well done on getting over your plateu and getting to 192! thats amazing!!!

Cannot wait to hear about your training in running, as soon as ive lost around half of what i want to, im going to start running, not at the moment though as i dont want to damage my joint lol

Hugs Green x

Aww thanks!! Green you're doing great! The positive energy that you have, and all the pushing you do in your exercising (and biking) is so motivating!!!

I look forward to reading your progress! And the day that you'll be running :)

*hugs*

I got tired reading your long diary..LOL... So Good luck! I hope your trainer kick your butt..LOL

Thanks for stopping by?! hehe

The trainer kicks my butt whenever I see her! I'm so lucky to have found on that I enjoy!

Take care!!

Yeah it's nice that he runs but the week I sid my first c25k session on the treadmill he got on the treadmill next to me and ran 5k just like that!!

I hated him right then!!!! Grrrr

yep I am red faced hot sweaty when running - it's not just you. I am now trying to focus on looking like one of hhe really toned girls instead of hating how big I am next to them!!! (not the super skinny ones though - eeek!!

I am impressed by the walking past the wine determination!! Alcohal is still causing me issues!! I was thinking I may give it up for a month then remembered I'm hoing out clubbing next weekend for the first time this yr and I cannot do that sober!! So think I will give it up from 14th!!

Your doing really well Hun, keep going!! XX

Hehehe! isn't it funny how we worry about the people next to us!!? I think it's great that you've changed your focus! And in no time, you ARE going to be one of those toned girls!! hehehe I never use to look at myself in the mirror when I exercise- I was always WAY to embarrassed and ashamed, but now i'm like, "yeah, i got some muscle and curves going on there!"

Yeah! I am finding alcohol so hard to beat! A lot of it is because my friends like to drink - A LOT!!! - so when we get together, it's what we do...but I'm slowly making sure I drink less, and bring healthy food to our gatherings! That way I can know I can eat something and not worry about it!

I can't wait to hear how your clubbing went!! that's so excited! I haven't been out doing that in so long! But I agree, I think it's something that you need to have a few drinks for LOL!!

Hope you had a great weekend girlie *hugs* Thanks for stopping by!!

Hey Tik. I just completed a real long distance achievement....I read your entire diary this morning!! With a cup of tea...(needed the stamina!!).

So, first off - well done hon, you have come so far and are doing SO well. It sounds like after 5 years of hell, this is such a positive step for you and a new phase of life. Enjoy the first couple of years of your PhD too - these are the times to explore and think and go to conferences and for me were about new fresh directions.

As for the 5k - I did the couch to 5k program back in spring last year when I was a similar weight to you. The first couple of weeks are tough but it gets easier. For me, once I was running say 8mins without stopping, I just found it easier and easier from there on in. I think it is a mental thing...somewhere in my diary, you can read that exact week or two..one day I just stayed on the treadmill and did 12 mins and I freaked out!! Then the next time I just said how far can I go...and did like 16 mins...then 20 mins...then 30 mins...then I stopped the program and just started running outdoors. Once i was over the mental stop of watchign the clock and thinking I couldn't do it...you just get into a complete rhythm of running. The first 5-10 mins of ANY run are always the hardest then your body just does what it does! I now run for an hour and 15 mins or so...and usually do 8km plus...I am VERY SLOW!!! LOL but I don't stop, hills don't bother me, nor does rain or traffic, I just keep on plodding. I love the way that all the troubles and problems or theories just fall through my mind and work themselves out and I end up feeling so much more "sorted" at the end a run.

I've not run any races though but signed up for a 10km run in May...which is a bit scary - not because I don't think I can run it...I can do the distance, just I'm quite slow and lots of people from work are running it in a team. That's what I'm going to have to work on for the next 2 months!

Start running outside though, with some good music and run to songs rather than time once you are beyond 8 or 10 mins on the C25k program - it makes the time fly by and there's SO much more to look at - I thought I'd get bored not having a TV to watch but outside is so much better.

Anyway, back to you! 193...the 180s will be there before you know it. And is a really interesting "decade" in terms of lbs as you will start to actually, from some angles and in some clothes, feel a normal size!

Where are you coming to in the UK for your conference? Is it London based? I used to come to the states for the Annual Association of Geographers conference each year but I left academia and went into the financial sector instead so it seems like a distant world now!

hehehe! yes! Sometimes I can't believe how much has gone on in this thread in just over a month!!! It's amazing all the support - and how much I blabber!! hehehe Thank you for reading it! And thank you for the wonderful comments!!

Did you do your PhD? What in?! I am finding this year so much different from the other years of my schooling...I'm not sur eif it's a combination of the increased workload in courses, working at a job where I have more responsibility, or my personality- where I want to get A+++ in everything! Hehe...i'm glad that I have done it, and it's like this- as it has kept me occupied during some hard times :)

It's nice to know you've done the C25k program, completed it, and that it got easier! I just ifnished the first week, and I am noticing a difference! But like you said, i think the watch watching is what's killing me! I need to stop looking at the time, waiting to go down to walking, because if I stopped to think about it, I could push myself to run longer!

Congrats on signing up for a 10k!! You should be proud of yourself! I think that's a daunting distance for anyone! But you have such motivation, and positive attitudes towards it, that you'll do great! And like you said, you can do the distance, you just go at your own pace! I would say that it doesn't matter how slow you are, but I'm also worried about my speed for my 5k! I know I'm slow, and it's hard to get over the fact that it's ok!! I mean, these races aren't about coming in first, for me at least, it's meeting my goal of running the entire thing- so as long as I do it, it shouldn't matter how long!!

I think it's great that you're doing your race with a team!! I think it'll give the race a whole new feeling!! Good luck with your training! I am going to have to find your diary, and check out how you're doing (and read back to when you were doing the C25K program)!!

I am looking forward to the 180's! And you're right, they will get here before I know it! I just need to keep being positive, and making the right choices! It took time and work to put it on, so it'll take time and work to take it off!! :)

This summer I am so excited to bust out the shorts and tanks and be so comfortable wearing it!! Just enjoying how I feel, and my confidence!!

My conference is in Durham! It's a medical geography symposium! i'm so excited! not really for the conference and present, but for the trip! I've never been to eurpore/uk before so I'm so excited!! We're planning on traveling around for a week afterwards!! :)

What work did you or are doing in geography!? This is actually a new field for me, and I'm so impressed at all the difference aspects of it!

Thank you again for stopping by and posting! I have to say, on sat I wasn't planning on going to the gym, I was just going to take a lazy day, then i read your post, and was like, "nope! I have to go run! it won't get easier if I don't do it!" so thank you!!! :)

Hopefully the love for running will come. i guess for some people, it never does... which saddens me. lol definitely give it time. i found i started to love it once i was seeing results in my endurance. haha i'd come home and be like "MOM!! MOOOM! I RAN FOR 20 MINUTES.... STRAIGHT!!!" hahaha i hope it comes for you. would love a virtual running buddy. lol

its warmer today here. its topping out at +6 celcius today, which is my running threshold. lol but its raining, so no outdoors activities for me today. soon though, hopefully. it is defintiely harder to run outside. i notice that propelling yourself on the stationary ground, as opposed to the moving treadmill, makes me tired faster. i cant seem to make it as far/long as i can on the treadmill. but it is more interesting, being actually moving, as opposed to running in place haha

I am away for a few days and have to catch up on like 4 pages of posts :p haha such a popular page. its amazing! haha

your push for yourself with the wine is amazing. i am going to steal this question and use it on myself, if you don't mind lol. ive been having a tough time with cheating on my diet lately, and this question just really puts it all back into perspective. awesome.

and AWESOME job on the results with your assessment!! thats a really big achievement, especially to be feeling it in your clothes and daily living. you should be super proud. 5 inches lost is great. you are doing so amazingly well and are so inspirational. :) keep it up girlfriend *high five*

I think you're right! once I start seeing results, i think I will like it! I'm the type of person taht gets put off of things if I'm not good at them...and sometimes if I'm not good at something right away, I give up!! But if I keep working at running, i can improve!!! That's the best thing to think about- if I keep battling through it, i will get better :) And it will get easier! :)

I think you're right about running outside! I'm sure it's a lot more interesting, and time probably goes faster as you're distracted by your environment! I think this spring I'm going to try running outside! Regardless of it being harder :smilielol5:

Steal that question girlie! I'm actually finding I'm using it all the time...with cookies, cake, carbs! LOL I want EVERYTHING!! I have that question on repeat in my head 24/7!!!

Thanks for the support! we're both doing great girl! All of our hard work is going to pay off!!

Hey Tik - finally had some time to read (skim) through your diary. You are super motivating - especially reading the posts in ohter diaries. I had to come check yours out. I've been through a range of emotions...lol.

was really upset with your friends...not acting like friends....but then totally uplifted reading that you had the courage to stand up for yourself. GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Your ex sounds like a very negative spot in your life. I had one of those (different experience tho) - my friend and I go with the saying "Time, Everything Takes Time" - that was so true of that relationship. I never thought I would heal...over time, I not only healed, I began to truly feel sorry for him - I now remember the good times we shared (there were lots of those too) - I can no longer remember the really bad, hurtful times - and wish him the best.

Keep up the great job....I shall be checking in regularly for a pick-me-up.

Thanks jennifer!! And thanks for stopping by and leaving such a lovely note :) I've seen quite a few of your posts in others journals, and you're so encouraging and supportive!! It's nice to see the community reach out and support others!! :)

Thanks for the friend comment! isn't it strange how sometimes your close friends can be upset of you trying to make improvements?! But I did stand up for myself, and since then, they've been very encouraging (or not so negative!)...but I am very lucky, I have a lot of great friends that want to help me succeed!! And I have been so lucky to have this form to help me! :) I'm not sure what I would do without all the help, support, and encouragement that I've gotten from all of you guys :)

Sorry to hear you had a negative relationship- it's sad to know that there's so many of those out there! it's a shame...but I think it's important to look at it as an experience that can help you grow and learn! And your friend is right, it does take time! I am finding more and more that I'm healing...and feeling less angry! it'll take time, and there will be times where I am more impacted by it than others, but I just have to keep reminding myself that the relationship wasn't healthy, and that I am so much better now...I have a lot to look forward too! we all do! We all deserve to be in positive, healthy relationships! :)

Thanks again for stopping by! I'm going to have to check out your journal :)

You are doing totally AWESOME Tik! Keep it up :) I love the workout routine and the food looks so healthy I feel like I'm losing weight just reading it :D Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Thanks Xenon!! We're both doing so great!!
As always, you are superwoman!! I get so encouraged by your journal, I know if you can get exercise in with all of your duties (school, parenting, etc), there is NO reason i can't do it!

You're an inspiration girlie :) Keep it up!

Your food looks so healthy Tik! And wow what exercise; you're a machine woman! Ha!

It's a shame you're still hovering in the 190s. I think it's time like these - where maybe you're not getting results that you think you should - that you've really got to be strong and just hang in there. I know it's tempting but I think pushing yourself even further can actually be counterproductive. You've got to save something for later when you REALLY need it haha. You might just be better off keeping on with what you're already doing (because it looks GREAT!) and being patient.

But of course it's about what feels right for you!

I hope the next week or so gives you the loss you want!

Keep it up, you're doing soooooooooooo well! You're a real inspiration!

Thanks Holly! :)

You're doing great yourself!

You are so right, I need to keep strong, and positive...I will get through this, I just need to be patient and realize that it's a long slow journey! And that each healthy choice I make, I'm doing the right thing!

I know I go around trying to encourage people to stay positive, I should really take my own advice- but it's hard!! lol

I'm feeling better today! And I won't care if the scale doesn't go down right away! What matters is that I'm exercising and putting the right foods in my body! those are the key things to a healthy lifestyle!

Thanks for the support and encouragement girl :)

Dear Tik..You are eating super healthy and exercising great....its a motivation for all of us. The scale will come down..just hang in there..its just one of the days when the scale is acting funny..you are just doing perfect :)

Thanks newie!! :) you're doing great yourself! And you're right, I just have to hang in there, and keep pushing through! this isn't going to happen over night! If I keep making the right choices, I WILL see the number go down! It has gone down already, and it's just a matter of time when I see it go down more :)

Thank you for all the kind words *hugs*

:iagree:

Just hang in there!

Thanks TikTak!
We're both doing great! We can do this, even if the scale seems against us some days! LOL

Hot damn girl! March 5th's exercise log... day one of the c25k PLUS all that other work! 30 push ups?! What the hell woman, you are DOMINATING these work outs!!!

Your eating looks good too but I think the reason why you are stuck in this range right now is because you might not be eating enough or at the right times. I'm sure it's different every day, but March 5th's eating log should have been bigger considering the workout you did. Your body needs those calories to burn! Try aiming for a 200 cal snack between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner. Maybe another thing you could try is changing your breakfast choices. Try eggs if you have time - I love cooking egg whites and putting them on an english muffin with cheese. It's my version of McDonald's "egg mcmuffin" :D

Hang in there - we all get stuck sometimes and plateau but you will get through it eventually. I remember being stuck in a plateau for at LEAST a few months and I was eating perfectly/working out perfectly, and the one week where I had a crappy weekend and ate junk food, the next weigh in was when my weigh just dropped - sometimes you need to confuse your body!

Keep up the hard work! You're doing great :D

Hehehe skkoll, you always rock my journal with such positive, kind, and warm comment! Thank you! :)

And you're right !I could be eating more, and more of the right things! I need to cut down on the carbs, and get more protein in! Like today, I brought a hardboiled egg into work for a post workout snack! I love your breakfast! I'm going to have to try it! it sounds so great!!

I tend to eat oatmeal on the days I go to the gym, as it gives me energy, and then I have protein powder afterwards...but I think it's important to change that the days I don't go to the gym early-- I'm not getting enough protein in the morning to get me going! that's going to change!!

Thanks for the encouragement! I can do this! It'll take time, but I'm strong! i just have to keep positive! And that's easy to do with people like you and all the others on here leaving me such encouraging and motivating posts :)

Hehe! i love the "confuse your body" comment! I think it's great! And you're right, sometimes you need to switch it up a bit, and not just keep the same food routine!! I might have to indulge this week sometimes, and treat myself to something I wouldn't eat!! hehe...like cheeseless pizza! YUM!! hehehe

Thank you girlie!! *hugs*

Thank you all for such wonderful posts from yesterday! I read them, and pushed myself to go to the gym...I would have just lazed around feeling sorry for myself, but you're all so right- I can't give up! That's the WORST thing for me to do! I need to stay positive, and keep my chin up! :)

Not a very exciting entry today! I'm off to class and work :)

Cheers!

OMG!!! Congrats!! 10k in 55 minutes?!!? That's fabulous!!! Wow!! Good for you! Are you going to set that goal for your race? or are you going to try and beat it!!? And cowboy, I think you could totally do a half marathon! you have such a great attitude and so much determination!!!

I'm feeling a bit better today! after reading through the comments on here, I went to the gym yesterday and ran for 35 minutes! (Intervals, but running nonetheless!!)

Thank you cowboy, as always, you are so encouraging and supportive! You are right on so many levels!! :coolgleamA:

Nice job on the running for 35 minutes. I am hoping to break my time for the 10K. I ran yesterday outside - it was -22- I did manage to get 1 minute off my time. Although it is just the second time I have actually done 10K. I found that with my 5K times that once I hit the 5k distance the times seemed to go down each time. I think the original hurdle was realizing I could run 5K without stopping- once I realized that then I focused on time. The same is true with the 10K. Like I said it is all mental-lol.

My wife now likes running outside too as she says she always clock watches when she is on the treadmill. Running out and back ( for a period of time) takes the clock watching away. I bought a cheap digital watch at Walmart that has a built in countdown timer in it. I set for the time I want to run out (say 25 minutes) the timer goes off when the 25 minutes is done- I reset it for 25 minutes again and then I turn around and run back. I don't even have to look at the time- takes that clock watching out of the equation. My wife has the watch that you can set for 5 and 1 or 6 and 1 all the way up to 10 and 1s. She likes it as she doesn't have to clock watch while she is running either.

I like running outside way better than running on the inside track or on the treadmill. I find I can run faster and farther outside- maybe it is just psychological but it works for me. We have some much snow still here and it is still so cold. It takes a little longer to get your stride outside- it takes me a K or so to get going but once I get into it the time outside is fantastic. I am hoping it won't be too cold for my run on the 20th- I think in years past the weather has been a lot better. I guess I will have to wait an see but I guess I have been running in -27 so how bad can it be on the 20th-LOL.

You are on the right path. Stick with it. Don't let anyone or anything dampen that wonderful enthusiasm and drive you have. You will be at your goal before you know it!!

Hey Tik, just wanted to pop in and say hi. It looks like things are going really well (even if you're feeling stuck at your current weight)!

Keep up the great work!

Heyyyyyy girl!!

I hope you're having a fabulous Monday! :)

What are skullcrushers?? I love reading through your PT session exercises. It gives me ideas of what kinds of exercises to work into my circuits. LOVE it!

Don't get frustrated with the scale. I know exactly how it is and that's why I am only going to weigh myself once a month. Weight fluctuates! It's okay. You WILL get past 194. I KNOW you will. You've already made it 15lbs down. You CAN do this. If it's a number you don't like on the scale, let it only push you harder when you're at the gym. Just imagine the number and kicking it's ASS!!!! Also remember some of that is muscle as you posted in your last assessment you gained muscle.

How's jumprope going for you?? I kind of fell off the bandwagon last week because of my foot but I'm headed to the gym in a bit and I'm going to come home and jumprope for 15 minutes. LETS DO THIS!

Congrats on the running going from 20 minutes to 35. That's huge! Look at you go!!!

You're doing SO well, Jill. Keep it up! Have an amazing week! :)

Hi Jill, I see your still doing well. That's fabulous! And still being as positive as ever. I wish I had your mind set.

Keep up the good work dearie! I'm soooo jealous!!

I can't believe you're out there in that cold! LOL that's insane!!! Good for you! it's great that your wife likes to run outside as well! And I like the tips the two of you have for not watching the clock! I really think that's what's killing me! And I agree, I think if I do it outdoors I'll have more that takes my mind off of the running!

Congrats on the -1 minute! That's fantastic!! I bet it's nice to see a change! it shows that you're making progress!

I think I would like to try to see how far I can run before I need to walk...I think that's the biggest thing for me, that I don't think I have the stamina to run for more than 60-90 seconds...but I think I would be surprised! Like you and others have said, it's not always the most comfortable feeling at first, but once you break through it, it gets better!

I think if I keep going, and break through that wall, i'll be surprised! :)

I think I might have to try that this week! Going at my own pace, but running for as long as I can! :auto:

Hope the week is treating you and your family well cowboy! :)

Hey Tik, just wanted to pop in and say hi. It looks like things are going really well (even if you're feeling stuck at your current weight)!

Keep up the great work!

Thanks PLB! I'm going to keep working towards my goal- I'll get there some day! Thank you for the articles on the protein post work out! They were very informative! I like the idea of having half inbetween my workouts! I don't think I could drink an entire shake while doing my cardio! LOL

That might results in something very messy!

Those are skull crushers!! With a barbell, you grip it, raise it over your chest, and extend at the elbows backwards to your forehead, making sure your shoulders stay in the same place! It's great for the triceps! I just LOOOVE the name! Whenever I do them, I'm like. "skuuuuuulllcruchers!!!" I feel like Heman or something! hehehehe

Feel free to take all the PT session workouts! I can't get over how many exercises there are!!! Every day I go in, and there's something new! Seriously, who knew you could do so many different things!!! :)

Thank you! you're right, I will get past this weight...I'm just at a plateau, but I can get through it! I think you're smart weighing yourself once a month- I might have to go to that! If I find not seeing the scale go down really deflates me, then I'm going to have too! I don't want a number to bring me down :) LOL I WILL imagine that number, and totally kick it's butt when i go to the gym!!! hehehehe

Jumprope is going! I try to do it 2-3 times a week, and have gotten up to 10 minutes- but it's painful! LOL we can do it though! It's not about reaching a certain number, it's about having a goal of doing it! If we can do it once or twice a week, then we rock! Jump rope is hard to get motivated to do! LOL WE CAN DO IT!! I am going to skip for 15 minutes this week! I'm going to push myself to do it! We can do it!

I'm glad your foot is feeling better girlie! Take care of yourself! And lets kick some jumprope butt this week :) :smash:
