I just seen a previous post of yours dude, you seem like a beginner. If you plan on getting into training i suggest you pick up a cheat book like "The New Rules of Lifting", Avoid muscle mags. You can get it in most any major book store.
I don't agree with everything in the book but its a great start.
I have a shake and some oatmeal 1.5 hours before every workout. You should be eating every 2-3 hours anyways, and you need the carbs before you workout or else you won't have enough energy to fuel your whole routine.
Indeed pre and post workout nutrition is very important. Before your workout you have to have proper energy and post workout you need proper protein and carbs for rebuilding muscle. I to recommend the new rules to lifting as well as just reading the forums.
Also here is a nice get started list to check out for all your needs.
