Hey aussiemum!!
Now you have got to stick with the program here and lose weight and
stay on this forum!!! Cos I want another Aussie!!! I'm a few days late... but
hey there...thanks for your post!
I agree re. the kids. But I just find it easier to do it myself (mostly). The trick is being more organised so I have more stuff in the freezer, and more stuff they can easily throw together themselves, that is healthy. I have been relying on junk food just because of my exhaustion levels, however now Im trying harder to regain my fitness, hopefully that will be less of an issue! I do feel much better on the days Ive gone for my hell walk (on treadmill).
My kids are 14 and 11. Thank goodness I never have to work 10 hour days at work (how do you
do that!!), cos I already get it about how much you can do having kids around. I just heard another woman at work yesterday, say that when she makes her kids sandwiches she doesn't cut the crusts off and tells them "I don't have time for that!" OMG Revelation for me!! LOL!! So that's what I was supposed to say all those years.
My kids like some flavours of rice thins or rice/corn thins. I don't know how healthy they are, salt wise, but they are low calorie. Also they like Vive crackers and so do their friends. (Paradise brand: Vive Wellbeing, Soy and Linseed Crispbread. You can get them in boxes with individual 4 packs in them. I eat the Vive Wholemeal Crispbread instead cos there's a few less calories. Here, Woolworths stocks those flavours and Coles does not.) My girl likes light philadelphia cream cheese, which you can get in portions (though you pay extra for that). When they were less keen on salad I saw that they found it much more attractive if they could have a bit of low cal french onion dip with it, so that helped. Whole or rough chopped veges are a real bonus timewise, and great for low cal tummy filling, if any of you find them appealing. I also taught them how to cook scrambled eggs and omlettes. Toast can be handy.
Mainly I find that if I just plug along for a while, saying things (to myself) like "I'm glad I'm not eating that (thing the kids eat), because not eating it is making me thinner"; after a while, any rubbish food around me has lost its appeal and even walking past the bakery in the shopping centre is less of a trial than it was!! When I started here last November, I used to let my eyes slide off the food that might drive me crazy, and tell myself that it was revolting! LOL! Kinda silly but it helped – and it helped more after a while than it did at first too.
I get it about it being easier to do things yourself than get the kids to help. I decided this year that I would get the kids to help more. I worked out that when I'm too busy I don't ask them because I don't have time. (For example it took me quite a while to get the solidified Omo powder back out from the liquid final rinse dispenser!). Then when I had time I would feel like “Why was I asking?” cos I could easily do it myself! and they would even ask me that exact thing!!
View attachment 5047 So in the Christmas holidays I explained that to them - how they needed to learn while I did have the time to teach them, and that I would increase their pocket money a little. Kids are just as likely to whinge cos you want them to help now ... and later on complain cos you didn't make them!!!!

Well clearly I have a way to go in getting the participation right with my kids, but it has helped.
Day two and ive nearly made it.
I weighed this morning, I was only 84kg (loss of nearly 1kg) which Im just going to put down to fluctuations.
I actually got on my treadmill this morning! yayay
I havent over eaten today at all...I have a theory that the days I break a sweat are the days I seem to have control over my bingeing. Is this because of the "feelgood" chemicals exercise releases? probably.......so why dont I do it every day?
good question....
I lost steadily here for a long time, but just recently had a hump to get over when I let a holiday disrupt my habits. I noticed the exact same thing this week about decent exercise - that it's really helping with my food as well. I remember seeing a thread Mal put up months ago about women having less appetite if they exercise before their main meal too. I find this is often convenient in the summer and can start out legitimately feeling ravenous and come back feeling kinda hungry but like it's not a biggie any more.

Why don't we do it every day? I think we have to ask ourselves "how can I do it every day?!!"

Well I do. LOL! Cos there are so many legitimate reasons why not. But the more you allow yourself to take the time you need and do it anyway, the more it becomes what you are hankering for, and and make time for, well in my case anyway. Whereas any break makes me ask whether I'm ready to start again yet
Anyway, probably TMI from me, but I am really glad to see you here and see you are making progress and I will be back ............
Ooops - where are you running to ....
I can be quieter ....
I was very excited to find another tired Aussie mum on here!! Stay!!

Please!!
