Tired of being fat. Never been thin.

I'm 20-years-old. I've never been thin. I'm tired of wasting my youth. I want to be confident and comfortable in my own skin. I don't remember the last time I was ever comfortable in my own skin. As a result I'm almost always trying to crawl out of it. There's an annual camp out on labor day weekend (September 6) that I go to with some family and friends and I am determined to be rid of the bulk of this flab by then. This is old old old fat so I am not sure how successful I'll be since I hear it is hard to get rid of the older fat. It's April 20th, 12:12 AM right now, and I'm gonna post a couple of angles of myself to give you guys an idea of what i'm working with and i'll post another couple of pictures every week until I get to the camp out. Please lend me some support so I can commit to people to make these updates!
April 20th, 211 LBS

Will be limiting my bread intake, and the bread i do eat will be like whole wheat breads and such. No red meat. Veggies and fruit. No food 3 hours before sleep time. Try to jog for 30 minutes minimum at whatever speed I can maintain it. Light lifting to maintain the little muscle I have left.

Every time I am tempted to over eat or eat something bad, I will picture myself in full good shape and how great I'll feel and look and I'll truck on.

The goal: Lose these enormous love handles and man tits before the camp out. Probably gonna have to lose around 50 lbs to do that. 50 lbs in 140 days. Roughly 4 and a half months. Is that unreasonable? Would love feed back. If it is, I'm still going in with the attitude of losing it all even if I don't meet my goal. I'm just gonna keep truckin till all that fat is gone and I can start packing on the muscle. Definitely is gonna happen before I turn 21 (December 6th), that's for damn sure. Thanks

Hey pantheist462 good luck on your journey. I started around the same time as you, although I have quite a bit further to go.

I think you're goal is realistic (50lbs 140days = 2.5lbs per week) That's also what I'm shooting for.

Just curious how tall you are?

I'm 6'4 314 currently (BMI 38.2)

Interim goal is 275 by August (BMI 33.5)

Next Goal 250 by December (BMI 30.4)

Ideal weight 220 (BMI 26.8)

It really helps to write down everything that you eat, I'm doing this in my diary, it really does help, I couldn't be bothered to count calories (Lazy I guess) but just to see a food list is helping me understand where the empty calories are that I can cut out.

My wife is a dietician and her advice to me has always been "It's not necessary to cut out certain foods or food groups (meat, grains etc) but the key is to eat in moderation and stay active"

The goal is to shed the lbs and KEEP THEM OFF, thats not feasable with a "diet" we need to change our habits and live healthier, make healthier choices.

Anyone can go on Atkins (or another fad diet) and shed mega weight, but it's not feasable to stay on such a restrictive diet for life, so ultimately the participants "fall off the wagon" and gain everything back that they worked so hard to lose.

Good Luck to you in your journey, I'll check in everyonce in a while to see how your doing.

woohoo!

great job on starting a diary on here! i also just started one as well.
i think your goal is definately realistic and you can soo do it! you sound like you def. have the determination and strength to reach your goal! goodluck to you!!

Hey Pantheist,

First of all, I like that name. I did not read this post until right now. Sometimes it takes a little time for us to get around to everyone.

There is no such thing as "old fat." That is a belief that will not serve you well. All fat is just fat. You do not need to tease out old fat with a long pointed stick or anything ;-).

As mentioned above by gasman, your goal is totally realistic.

You will need to eat differently. Specifically, you will need to figure out how many calories you body needs, eat less than that, drink water everyday, and exercise.

What questions about this do you have?

Thanks for the responses everyone!! Sorry i was so impatient. I have some update images for you all and some commentary and questions.

(I think my love handles are getting smaller)
So the first part of the week was a bit rocky. I strayed a bit a couple of times and I was a little unorganized. The last bit of the week I got my stuff a better down pat. I've started work pushing carts again (constant walking and other movements), and I'm trying out around 2100 calories a day. So I try to eat 5 meals a day now. So a meal every couple of hours..and I try to count it out to 400-420 calories. If i have no way of counting or am too lazy, I just try and be careful. I've been eating corn flakes, yogurt, bananas, v8, kashi bars, chicken, fish, rice. Oven roasted chicken breast foot longs from subway on whole wheat bread (640 calories). Sooo I've been kind of broke lately and my diet isn't as nice as I want it to be but I should be getting a pay check soon so that'll make it better. I have some problems with cooking I'm really really really lazy and bad when it comes to cooking. But I'll do it for sure. I just need some easy recipes and instructions. I'll take any snack or food suggestions. Btw, I'm 5 foot 9 if I haven't already mentioned. I think I lost around a pound this week maybe two. I don't really trust my scale because I don't want to ! It's mean to me. Anyways thanks for the responses hope to hear more!! I'm going for a jog since I don't work today. I hope to be in exceptional cardiovascular shape when I come out of this.

Hey Pantheist,

You're doing great. I remember when I started to lose weight, my biggest challenge was just keeping the daily intake at a steady level and within a fat burn range. Perhaps that is also where you are at. Try to keep the calories to below what your body needs.

I think you should rephrase that. When I hear "needs" I think "to stay alive" or to "stay healthy"

I'm not updating today, I've had no progress, I haven't lost a pound and I'm really upset about it. Really upset. Looks like I'm gonna have to eat even less. I feel like if I ate any less I'll have trouble falling asleep at night. Just really upset right now.

Take it slow. Drastically changing the diet is difficult. If you are feeling bad right now, just stabilize the diet until you can you get your bearings.

why don't you post you food intake/plan and someone here might be able to help, or find where you're going wrong. If you're not loosing then perhaps your taking in calories in places you aren't expecting, or perhaps you've cut back so far your body is hoarding energy.

That's what I was going to say. When I cut my calories from maybe 3000 to 800 or so I didn't loose anything for weeks(I was working out even) When I started eating 1200-1500 I started loosing. I really think my body was holding on to it. I was so tired all of the time. Now that i'm eating right & doing yoga, weightlifting & cardio I feel so much better. I've been loosing 2lbs a week for the last 6 weeks. I know what it feels like to be the fat kid your entire life. I was obese since age 4. Good Luck to you. We can do this!

Alright, so I decided I need to get the ole food weigher out and count my calories. I found out I was eating too many nuts, that my small stomach is too big or something...well, anyway, I've also been getting mayo on my sandwiches at subway and they don't factor that into their calorie count thing. So...I've been much more careful. I am trying to do 1700 calories in a day, and I've been eating almonds, bananas and apples, and lots of broccoli....and been avoiding starch like crazy...been eating peanuts and peanut butter and very little whole wheat bread...lots of Kashi go-lean bars...Will post an exact daily food logue soon it's just really hard for me. I think I'm making progress there are certain areas on my body that I can feel where the fat first starts leaving.

From reading your posts it seems that you and I both share something in common. I really like to eat both peanuts and peanut butter, but unfortunately both are pretty high in calories per each serving size. For this reason, I recommend that you track how much of each you are eating. Is it one handful of peanuts, or a few? Is it one spoonful of peanut butter, or a few? This is very important when it comes to estimating total calories, and I find that measuring has really helped me to lose weight faster. I was previously eating scoop after scoop of peanut butter right out of the jar before I realized that a serving size is really only 2 tablespoons. I know as well as you do that this weight loss stuff can be tough, but make sure you stick with it because you'll be happy you did it in the end.

I would measure out a quarter cup of peanuts which is 210 calories. Yeah, peanuts have a LOT of calories. I'm told almonds are much better for me so I'm just finishing the last of the peanuts that I have and moving on to raw almonds.

Pantheist,

Whatever you do, do not "try" to do anything. Like Yoda says "Try Not!...Do, or do not, there is no trying!" Do not try to eat 1,700 calories. Commit to it and you will do it. Only then, though

Alright, so I decided I need to get the ole food weigher out and count my , I've also been getting mayo on my sandwiches at subway and they don't factor that into their calorie count thing...

I love subway, and it wasn't until recently that I realized that their "calorie counts" really don't include ANYTHING...

No cheese, no mayo, no mustard, no sauce of any kind.

So when I thought I was having a 600cal footlong, it was really closer to 800cal when you count the glob of Mayo that counts as "a little mayo please".

I've since switched to ham/turkey on 9-grain, no cheese, all of the veggies (except tomato if I buy the sub in the morning for lunch... tomato always makes it soggy by lunch), plain mustard and hot sauce... maybe a squirt of sweet onion.

Honestly I don't miss the cheese at all. Last weekend my wife and I both got the same sandwich, except hers had cheese, and I tried a bite and I honestly could not taste it. It's a matter of personal taste I guess.

Here is what I ate today.

2 eggs- fried, 1/4th cup almonds = 350 calories
1 piece of whole wheat toast with 1 tbsp of peanut butter, 1 banana = 300 calories
8 oz low sodium v8 juice, 1/4th cup almonds, one cheese stick = 360 calories
popcorn = 100 calories
Apple and banana = ~200 calories
chicken, broccoli, more v8 = ~330 calories
Calories: Around 1640
