Time to do this right... I want my body back.

Hi everyone :)

My name is Katie and I'm new to the forum. There is so much great information on here and so many threads that I have read have been very helpful.

I am looking to loose about 20 lbs and keep it off long term. I used to dance professionally and be in amazing shape, but a couple years ago I got injured, had to stop dancing, and took the opportunity to go back to school. In the past with as much as I danced I never had to monitor what I ate, so as soon as I stopped dancing I gained 20 pounds pretty quickly. I have tried various diets and was somewhat sucessful with a couple of them, but I never stuck with them long enough to reach my goal weight and I always ended up gaining the weight back. I tend to get very discouraged when I don't see quick results (which I know is not a good thing), but long story short, I want my old body back!

I am 5 feet, 4 inches and 135 lbs. I know that doesn't sound too bad, but I have a very small frame and right now the majority of my weight is fat. I decided what I need is a lifestyle change (working out daily and eating right). So, I have cut my calorie intake back to 1300 calories per day and have been eating only lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies, and low fat dairy products. I also re-instated my gym membership this week and have been working out 1 to 2 hours per day. Hopefully these changes will get me on the right track for good.

I look forward to talking with everyone :)

Katie

Welcome to the forum.

The only problem with cutting calories as low as 1300 is that it can be tricky to tick all the nutritional boxes. You end up needing to use every last calorie productively...

Be sure to log your food on and check the nutritional breakdown against what you read in the sticky threads of the nutrition section. You need to be ensuring that you are getting enough things like protein, calcium, fibre, healthy fats. Also ensure that you are drinking enough water.

When you check your calorie balance you may be able to raise your calories to nearer 1500 and still get some weight loss. That would give you some room to adjust things if it got sticky in the last few pounds.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks so much for the feedback :). I checked out that diet journal and it looks really helpful. I would definitely like it if I could eat a little bit more each day. I have started drinking a ton of water and stopped drinking diet soda all the time and after only a few days of this I am feeling so much better :)
