Reflection

Say some old The Unit and came across some cliche that is cool.

1) When you plot revenge, be ready to dig two graves.

2) When you are indecisive about something, ask yourself this, "Will this action make me a better person."

#2 can really be applied to working and as a motivator. We forget WHY we workout and how much it improves us as a person for multiple reason:
a) Physical improvements - longer life
b) Calms the mind and release stress.
c) Time for ourself to MEDIATE. Yes, I said mediate. When you are in that zone and focus on breathe and lifting and thinking nothing else but that; that is mediating, your mind is CLEAR.

There are an abundant of more reasons that each of us have. Maybe, we are training for a six-pack or losing weight so we can see our grandchildren grow old or training us to be better sports athlete. Do not forgot that it's a privilege to workout and after each session, you should be thankful for the opportunity!!!

On a personal note, I iced my rt knee cap for 50 minutes. Knee feels much better!!!!

touching the rim at 5'7"...great job man. il be doing calf raises to get them strong now i guess. my calves are small. il be tryin to increase explosive strength too.

PB, I posted a reply to your Q on your journal.

Here was today's workout. Went and put on 7 lbs of food mass throughout the day of Christmas eating. Amazing but I peed a lot and too 2 crapper at night and 1 in the morning after my workout; guess what, I dropped most of the weight back. Went from 177 to 184 to 178.5. Pretty cool to eat like a human garbage machine.

Working out by myself again, so did my weight in the morning: Got to gym at 7:20.

Flat BB bench
135x10
205x7
260x5x5 ( some might have been down only 4/5 way down)

Took about 20 minutes to finish and went into Yoga class for 1 hour. Did yoga but did not sweat that much. The pushups in the beginning of class was easy BUT after 15 minutes, the pushup got hard.

Christmas day was just awesome. Spent time eating all day and as I said gained 7 lbs. Spent the time with family and everyone laughed and had a jolly old time. It was just awesome and spectacular!!!! Good stuff and a scene from the movie type of theme.

The day after was just resting and working out. It's been great and feels great and I cannot wait to do my 20 squats tomorrow. Iced up my knee for 45 minutes today. The squat seems to really building my hamstring more than my quads. I think I might have some muscle imbalance but that will be worked out.

Figured out ONE of my new years goal:
To be able to touch my figures behind my back in both directions (with both left and right armo on top).

Today's cliche :
"Love them or hate them, they are family. Why not just learn to love and live with them."

Leg day

Warmup 12 minutes for 150 calorie on ellyptical

Squat
135x10
225x8
275x10

It was quite a struggel to do 235x20. Was light head and such. A few mistake, 1) ate too much sugar (holiday) 2) I already increase it 5 lbs this week and increase again on my second leg day (too much). Wanted to stop at 10 and pushed to 15 and told myself that I would shoot for 18 only but once I got to 18 it was only 2 more sooo 20.

Leg curl (hammy) single leg
50x8
50x8
50x5+35x5

leg fly
175x10x2
rev leg frly
130x10x2

Envy

Today's lesson is envy. We are all adults now but yet still fall victim to envy. INSTEAD OF BEING ENVIOUS OF OTHERS, BE HAPPY OF WHAT YOUR FRIENDS/CO-WORKER/FAMILY ARE GETTING. If you are truly their friends or relative, you should be happy to see what they are getting instead of what you did NOT get.

What do I mean? I bought one of my nice a $100 gift card to Petsmart as she wanted to get a hampster and her parents kept on making excuses for not getting one. She told me this since summer that she was getting it for Christmas. Well, I decided to provide the cash for her so that her parents will not have any solid excuses. I know they don't think she is ready for the responsibility and the hampster may wound up dead or missing after a few weeks BUT I want her to learn about nuturing and responsiblity. I dont' believe in giving gift that just clutters up the house but something that the child really wants.

Back to the lesson, one of my other niece(a 6 years old) found out and asked why I got the other niece (a 11 years old) a $100 present and not her. The thing was that she told her parents and not me. Not sure what her parents told her but they took her out for lunch this afternoon. I only wished that she came and asked me so that I can explain to her how selfish that question was; hopefully her parents explained it to her.

Remember that when our needs are met and someone we know and care for receive a great gift; don't have a sour attitude as to why I didn't get it and life is not fair but rather be truly happy for your friend/family and share the joy with them. I think that this is the mature way to look at and approach this scenario versus being envious (the 6 yrs old approach); unfortunately, a lot of people get envious instead.

Inspirations

Today is Sunday, the day off from everything but fun. I thought, I would reflect on something earlier in the year that inspired me. It was the first thought that creaped into my head this morning as I woke up actually.

There was a story earlier this year of a college softball team that carried the OPPOSING team's hitter around the bases after she hit a home run and cannot walk because she tore her ACL in the process. The two Stars of the opposing team summed up the courage and sportsmanship to walk over and carried her around the bases for the run; which proved to be the game winning run. What transend was wayy more important than winning or losing the championship game but true sportsmanship. When asked why they did it, the girls said, "The girl deserved it, she hit a home run."

Wow, amazing for athletes who spends endless hours in the gym training and working out to sacrifice all of that to be Fair. BEING FAIR IS EASY IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT SHOWS TREMENDOUS CHARACTERS WHEN YOU ARE FAIR EVEN SACRIFICING WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. Those girls inspired me and is an inspiration for us all like the cliche goes: "It's not winning or losing that is important but How you play the game."

tic, I enjoyed reading your workout, with envy, but even more appreciated your two stories. Nice pearls of wisdom.;)

Thanks G8, I appreciate that. I write them to re-enforce myself and hopefully others will enjoy reading them as well.

Btw, I wish I can do a triathlon but have too many defecits. One day though, one day. Running will make me lose too much muslce and I am too vain to give it up. Yes, I admit it, I am a bodybuilder who likes the attention and any more muscle is not functional except for cosmetic purposes. I actually sink in the pool even with a full breath of air in my lung so swimming is difficult for me long distance wise. Never was a biker so that training if I ever do it is going to be a challenge to say the least. But doing a full triathlon is one of my Life goal. Gonna read your journal entries once I get back from football later parties: GO CHARGERS!!!!

Perserve

Today's lesson would be off course about my San Diego's Chargers going into the playoff. When they were 4-8, it was nearly impossible for them to make the playoff. A lot of things had to go right for them and wrong for the Denver Broncos. Did they fold it in and call it quits? NO way.

The road was difficult for them as they had to go into tampa bay and beat a team that NEVER lost at home there and hope for Denver to lose the Bills at home. Fortunately they did and then it setup for this week's showdown for the division title. Denver had to just win any of their last 4 games and they are in and they did not. The Chargers came out with an intensity and determination that was umatched. Their constant poundage and fire just burned the Broncos's will to win (not just win but play anymore). The team that underachieved the whole week FINALLY played a game that everyone excepted out of them. Go Bolts into the playoff, it does not matter if they are 8-8 or 11-5, they are the 4th seed, no matter.

Through this lesson, we all should remember to "NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER." The Chargers held onto hope and just tried their best on what they had control over. Remember, when you think that certain goals are not possible, think again -- that six pack is within grasp just keep on pushing yourself.

WoW

Okay, I caved in an bought World of Warcraft: Wraith of the Liche King. Yes, I am a gamer. What does this mean? Less journal detailed entry and trolling. Btw, that and reading materials that I recently got, gonna keep me really busy.

Anyone else a WoW players or mmo player? Used to play Warhammer but that game did not rekindled my old DAoC feeling so I stopped.

I hear you on the games. I still have a PS 2 that I will go months without playing. Right now I dusted off NHL 07 and have been playing that a ton. At least it isn't keeping you out of the gym.

12-30: Tuesday

Yeah man... I have an addictive personality and have been forcing myself to stay away from the gym and eat more to put on weight. Yeah, it sound super weird, I know. That is why I bought the game to keep me distracted from thinking about going to the gym or working out, etc....

I have a xbox360 and not played that system in a year now I think

Today's reflection will be about LIVING YOUR LIFE LIKE A BEACON FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW. The quote pretty much says it for itself. Try your best to life an examplortory life; kinda like how the USA was back in the 1900-1940. We were a beacon for democracry. Also, most religion preach their followers to live the same lifestyle. Follow your heart and stay true. People have a lot of goodness inside of them (conscience) but we ignore our heart and gets led down a dark place for quick shot of happiness or laziness. Be patient, Be Kind, Be honest, Be caring, Be loving and true happiness will follow.

Legs day again.

12/30 Tuesday, workout time from 3:15 pm until 4:30

Squat
135x10
225x10
275x8
235x20
285x6

Single leg press
370x10x3
leg press machine calf raise
325x20x3

Leg extension single leg
100x8x3
Single leg curl
50x8x2
40x8

Abductor / adductor machines
190x8x2
135x8x2
played with calf extension machine until slight cramped on right calf.

Took a while to get warmed up but once I did the 20 sets of squat, I was sweating and warmed. I think I am going to keep that weight and use the 20 reps as "warmup" from here on out. That will help me focus on form more. Still trying to master the squat technique but it's getting better. The right knee seems to flare out too much so I need to focus on that when my workout partner return; gonna ask him to watch that while I look upward. Did a lot of stretching and rt knee feels alright, better but not perfect yet.

After dinner / shower / bathroom, weight was 178 with clothes so roughly 176.5 naked is my guess.

12/31 Wednesday's thought.

Going to do this on tuesday as I will be too busy tomorrow do it. While this is a fitness / excercise forum, it is critical for me to remember to always be excercising the most imporantant muslce, my MIND. By informing myself and keeping my brain excercised, I will maximize my workout effort instead of contracting or undermining my effort. Have an informed battle plan and the results will be more positive and predictable. Remember to work harder AND smarter!!!!

This should not be confine to just working out but our daily life. Think before you do, think before you speak, think before you act. Our words and action effect everyone around us, please try to be kind and considerate of other's feeling and space.

I will get back into SC once they release SC2. Actually even Diablo or any Blizzard game man. All of my nephews and nieces play SC though.

day off

1/1/2009

It's Thursday and my usual day off from working out. The day off is the day that I am most sore out of the whole week. Almost never fail.

Today's sermon will be on PRACTICING WHAT WE PREACH. It is simple and the words says it all but do we really practice what we preach or do we go, "do as I say and not as I do." Does that ever work to lead others to follow? I don't think so.

How does this apply to my particular case? I've been preaching to eat a clean diet and being on the wagon. Last night was New Years Eve and a very difficult night to stay on the wagon. I fiddle with the idea of going here or there and KNEW that I would wind up falling off the wagon. Then, I remember that why should I be above what I am trying to preach? There was no reason and sometimes we all know what we should do but since it's not the easiest or most fun path, we do not take it. As it turned out, I held on tight to my guns and it was extricating to practice what I preach BUT now I feel much better about myself and my body. Whereas some of my friends are hung over and sleeping in from partying too much last night.

Happy New Year everyone!!! No more excuses to wait until next year or tomorrow to get stuff done!!!
