Good morning Randy! All the spirited banter in here is making me laugh....I can so relate! Hope your day is a great one!

Hi Beth !! It's BIKE DAY here !! I'm stoked !! I'm happy you're joining in the celebration !!

*showers the diary with confetti and balloons and streamers and strippers*

*lil ol you ?? mean looking ?? holey moley !! eh the bitchy and aggressive thing is pretty hot - always :) Your wit intimidates me somewhat but not much else, you're too clever for this old hillbilly.

One wonders how I woulda been perceived here without 'trucker' in my sn ?? I think the 'mean look' comes from the countless hours of blank stares from driving *shrugs*
Yes, I'm rather clever. So those I can't scare off with my aggressive bitchiness, I can certainly outsmart. The trucker persona certainly sticks, eh? Hey, I'm a nurse so I know all about being sterotyped.

Whatever it takes! We have a lot around here!

I read these two posts together, without realizing Debi had quoted a different post... It was way better that way.

Such silly kids you guys are :)

How could something so kind end up so wrong ?? Yesterday before going out and buying my new bike, I talked with my sis and she said her hubby had a mountain bike he hasn't used in years, after a quick call to him she called me back and said to come pick up the bike - it was mine if I wanted it !!

So I make the trip and then I eye up the neglected bicycle. The standard filth and grease and such, meh no biggie. Both tires were flat and they were dry-rotted. So I figure 'wth, still a bargain, right ??'

I go the bike repair shop and get a price on two new 'shoes' for my bike and they're like 30 bux. Then he points out the back rim is severely bent (I didn't notice because I didn't ride it with two flats) He says how lucky I am he had a new back rim for a Schwinn on-hand since this was an old bike and all :rolls eyes: Add another 40. So he goes to the front rim to change the tire and points out the fragile spokes and snaps one to prove how rusty and weak it was *scowls* Yep, you guessed it - I was 'lucky' again *ahem* he 'just' happened to have a front rim on hand too. Add another 40. By the time I leave I swipe my debit card and beep off 139.48 - labor, taxes and fresh parts.

So my sis threw in a brand new seat that was going to be replaced eventually as the original was torn up pretty bad. It was one of the ass-splitter seat and after a short ride last night, off to Walmart for a 'wider' more cushiony seat. Add 22.84.

The bike I originally wanted to purchase was about 135.00 brand spankin' new, now I got a 15-20 year old bike for more but as the mechanic pointed out, "You have a 'real Schwinn, not a China-made Walmart version' View attachment 3303

I think this is one of the episodes I have to chock up as: 'It's the thought that counts'. Hey, I got a bike so mission accomplished :D

So after riding it, I know 'just abandoning' walking altogether isn't possible. I need to ease into this biking thing so I'm going walk every morning and bike every evening till I can build up my biking skills to do some serious mileage. I hope to swing the biking as my staple exercise and decrease the walking. To head out on the trail on that bike cold and untested would be be a big mistake right now. I'll get there :)

Oh Man Randy...

I wanna say I'm glad you got the bike - but what a hell of a way to go about it!

Cheers to starting a new program!
:D

geez, that's quite a story.

i've never had a decent bike, so i guess that's why i never got in to it much. plus it's not a very bike friendly town here.

good luck. i'll keep reading to watch your progress.

I love your biking everywhere idea...the only man I ever knew in my entire life who lost a substantial amount of weight (about 150lbs I guess) and has kept if off for nearly 10 years did exactly that...he bought a bike and just used it as his only means of transportation...when he first started everyone (sorry to say including me:eek: ) was convinced he was crazy and it wasn't going to last...but he rode that darn thing everywhere and went from very obese to very lean in the process. He was even featured on some show about people who lost weight in "unusual" ways...

Randy, I used to love biking -- did it for about an hour a day, and lost tons of weight doing it. I had to stop when I got a herniated disc in my neck and couldn't hold my head in that position for more than a few minutes. I bet you'll really enjoy it.

ROTFLMAO Randy, jeezzzuzz man thats one hell of a bike story.. I wish it would stop raining so i could go for a walk.. Randy u wanna fix up my bike for me.. LOL firefighters are infront of my house.. DRAMA.. :p

I have a bike and I will bike where there is NO traffic....and that is it. Maybe its a big city thing....but IMHO, bikes should be allowed on sidewalks...because it is too dangerous on the road and few people are out walking on the sidewalks anyway....at least here in cali.
