This is the time

Hi! I am in Perth - I think I've seen that you are in Singapore - so hopefully we will both have a good morning - tomorrow! :)

I like your new avatar! :)

Hi Felici. Hope you have a terrific day!

We really want to visit Australia some day. Is Perth a good place to go?

Perth is good in itself. We have some lovely, often empty, rarely crowded beaches, and reefs worth snorkelling - though I think you might get that sort of thing where you live. Rottnest Island is nearby and special - a place for bikes not cars, and seabirds, and pretty reefs. In the spring - August/September - the wildflowers in this part of the state are worth seeing and many are unique. The city is relatively laid back and people are mostly friendly. There are plenty of days when it's good to be outdoors and plenty of outdoor things to do and opportunities for water sports or visiting penguins or seals etc. There are other places within a few hour's drive that offer special sights, too. It doesn't take long to get right out of the city into bush or forest or open spaces and far horizons.

However I have to say that as a tourist destination Perth is sooooo far away from anywhere else - that I would never actually recommend anyone from far away should then add on all the additional flying hours and costs it would take to get here from Sydney, or Uluru, or Bali - which are the closest places I can think of that strike me as authentic tourist destinations. I do love a lot of places within my own state too, but they are all also are fairly widely separated from each other. For example if you wanted a 2-3 week, 4 wheel drive Aussie adventure, the Kimberleys offer some uniquely strange and beautiful sites - but though it's part of my state it's easily 3 days drive from here - just to get to one corner of it. There are closer sights - like the Pinnacles or Wave Rock. Sometimes these things are popped on tourist brochures about Perth but they are day trips. Albany is about 300 miles away but offers a lot of pretty sights and interesting walks not too far from town - but doesn't have the great weather Perth has. Well mostly great. We can get some dastardly heat waves in summer - most often January or February...

LOL. I'll shut up now. I'd better go to bed before I start looking for links...

Thanks, Felici. The Kimberleys sound quite interesting. But a 3 day drive -- wow, that's like going from southern California to Oregon - quite a haul! Our biggest problem in seeing Australia or NZ (where we really want to go) is that Marlene's real time off is in the summer, your winter.

Our winter is not necessarily a bad time to travel here. I'm not so sure about NZ though.

The top end (north) of Australia has 2 main seasons the wet and the dry, and the dry, cooler months are "winter" - at the same time as your summer. A big improvement for most tourists over the excessive heat, humidity and storms of summer. That applies whether you were thinking about the less visited west (ie the Kimberley), or Far North Queensland, which is a lot closer to New Zealand and with it's own charms. Most of the cities in Australia are on the east coast so closer to New Zealand than where I live. Of the east coast things I have experienced, a dive on the Great Barrier Reef is the thing I most enjoyed and I think we were there in about July and enjoying swimming weather. I don't know a lot about the weather over east from personal experience - the area near Sydney is relatively warm (cold and floods today though!), Melbourne much cooler and less predictable and the island of Tasmania significantly colder. I know people who think Tasmania is well worth visiting but I should think that depends on what it is that appeals to you about Australia. They probably like Tasmania because it is quite different to what we're used to here - more cold, wet and mountainous.

Australia sounds amazing. I think i'm moving there. haha.

It's probably a better place to live than to visit. :)

Thanks for all the travel info, Felici. I hope to make it down there in the next 5 years. Have a great weekend!

No worries, Tom. I'm sure you will have a great weekend now that you can get back to the gym!! Take care.

why no exercise on friday? I think its a good thing to have a day off every week from exercise because it would be more motivating for the rest of the week. Like..."if i just do this today no matter how much i dont want to... tomorrow i don't have to do it."

No exercise because I ran out of puff really. That's all. I don't have scheduled days off because I find my schedule unpredictable, and because, as long as I can manage it, I like to at least walk every day. I actually enjoy it. What a nice short answer. I did just write a nice long one. But have spared us all the twists and turns of my mental state. :D

not true at al - it was an amazing place to visit... except for the fact i have n o real desire to seat my butt on a plane for 16 hours I'd go back in a heartbeat :)

that's a good reason - the break probably does you some good

Well it's certainly a good place to holiday for me!

Running out of puff is a bit of a warning for me. I guess it's ok if it doesn't happen too often. I am in a bit of a busy patch right now. Hence the lack of posting.

Are you saying there is something wrong with a twisted mental state...LOL if so I had better get outta here:rolleyes:
I don't think that's what I had in mind at all!!

I value interesting shapes! Please don't go! :D

I am really pushed for time just now, so not posting as much as I'd like. I am still reading here, my eating has been fine, and I have managed a 45 minute walk both days this weekend. Not as much as I wanted but letting me feel I'm sticking with things. I can see the next 4 weeks staying busy, so I will be here a bit less than I have been. Not away though, and still wishing you all much success, even if I don't manage to post everywhere I might have otherwise.

Ha Ha Ha and it is ok to have a little break here and there - I bet your body needed it :):):) Althought I tend to feel guilty when I dont exercise but sometimes it doesnt always fit into the family life and energy category...

I find that a 45 minute walk at a decently fast pace pushes me and makes me sweat, but makes me feel really good afterwards.

I do need to do something different, but as long as I can continue to eat carefully and keep the attitude of seeking to exercise daily I think I will be ok.

I love your new ticker!

Yes. "Forty five minute walk", is a bit vague really! There are many variations and yours sounds like a great one! :) I love they way you have moved into a new phase with your weight loss program.

Felici, I'm glad you got your walking in. I hope things calm down for you soon.

Thanks Cannon. I am gearing up for a little bit of full-time teaching. I have a meeting to help with the handover this Thursday. Strangely since I retrained for early childhood over six years ago I have never taught full-time. Lately, I've been going to work every day as a relief teacher and even that has been a challenge because I could keep busy full time here without any paid work! However in the full-time job there will be many things I never do whilst working relief (most of them I would be happy to never-ever do!), and the hours are much longer.

It's lucky for me that the teacher I will work for has chosen to take leave for two weeks before and two weeks after a two week school holiday break!! I guess all this begs the question of why I accepted the job. I'd say I'm interested in the predictability of the work. Also I'm probably interested in doing the whole job within the next few years, and/or getting regular part time work at that particular school so this is probably in my own interests for the longer term. It will for sure be a change of pace and more stimulating than the work I normally do - it's probably a good thing.

Today I ate as normal. I finally got my week's shopping caught up - grilled lamb, veges and gravy for dinner. Veges and dip for snacks. Dates.

I was really happy and satisfied with that.

I didn't exercise again.

I didn't weigh in this Saturday. I didn't get to the shopping centre on Saturday. Today I see they are re-flooring and my scales have gone!! The power point they were plugged into are gone too! Well, I have a (very, very) vague idea of how their predictable weights relate to my own crazy scales. I guess they don't matter much anyway. It would have been nice to have been able to continue to make a comparison with where I started, but that's a mini-issue. I have to say they consistently weighed me heavier than anywhere else does so I suppose I won't be heartbroken if they never come back!! :D

I hope you're having a great Tuesday!
A break in exercise is good, if you ask me. The point is wanting to exercise again and again, for the rest of our lives. Forcing isn't the way to get there. The natural breaks come from need, and you're so right about the attitude of trying to exercise.
Julie (who just went from Fri to Sun without moving a muscle, and has rediscovered the joys of exercise yesterday and today.. ;))

Hi, Felici. Funny how you are gearing up for teaching full time, when so many others are days away from their summer off. Hope you get a good class!
