This Is Not Good At All

Ok, today i weighed myself at my college gym, and i haven't gained one pound since last week, and i've been eating my heart out and drinking a lot of water and working out. this got me really discouraged. In fact, today i left halfway through my workout because i didn't feel like it would help me any. I don't know what to do but i need to get re-motivated. Any suggestions?

If your trying to gain and your not making progress your most likely not eating enough. You gain weight from diet, not really from weight training.

i know, i've been drinking 3-4 weight gainer shakes a day with milk, giving me about 2200 calories, and i also eat a bag of peanuts, and usually a subway sandwich with some gatorade. i also drink about 3-4 cups of apple juice when i'm at work, and sometimes i have white rice and/or BBQ beef or chicken. I record my calories on fitday, and i usually get around 3100 calories a day. i guess i need to up my calories, but it's getting hard.

You need a serving of lean protein every few hours. Chicken, turkey, lean red meat etc...You also need lots of CARBS. The only carbs I see there are the bread from the sandwich and the white rice (which is crap by the way, use brown) - You need potatoes, yams, oatmeal - good carbs. You may not need more calories at this point but your source of calories needs much, much improvement.

Have you tried mixing up your routine in the weights room? It's often good to change around the order at which you do your exercises (i do it every 4 - 6 weeks) because otherwise your muscles get adapted and thus don't get damaged and don't grow bigger. If you've been doing this and bulking up for a whiile and have gained a considerable amount of weight it mite be time to start cutting. Just a suggestion.

Biggie,

Plug your numbers into one of those formulas (they all come pretty close to teh same amount) and you'll find pretty close to how many calories you need to gain weight.

Just simply eating here and there isn't the same as having a certain number of calories to eat and meeting them. You really should only be shooting for an extra pound a week, two if you feel adventurous but then you'll be packing on extra fat rather than LBM.

I don't know what to tell you about the discouragement; if you haven't gained a pound since last week and you were ready to give up, that's up to you. But not gaining a pound in a week is hardly worth getting upset about. If you want to gain, you're going to HAVE TO eat 3500 EXTRA calories a week, that means at least 500 extra a day.

If you want to add calories-go buy some almonds, pumpkin seeds, granola, and sesame seeds in bulk.

Give this a read Biggie (or anyone looking to gain LBM). It's a 3 part article. This links to the next part is at the end of each one.

Thanks guys, for all the advice, i really appreciate it. Don't worry, something as little as not gaining a pound in a week isn't gonna stop me, i love weightlifting too much lol. I'm just gonna keep at it, and add in more whole foods instead of weight gainer shakes.

As for my routine, i do switch it up more often than not, so i don't think that's the problem.
