Thigh circumference

Hi, I know that I haven't been here in a while ^_^ Still struggling with binge eating and all, but I hope that I'm making some steps in the right direction.

Anyway, I've been worried about how large my thighs seem. They're actually one of the biggest worries about my body, since they seem so huge when I look in the mirror, and I always have to pick out the right clothes to cover them or make them seem slimmer.

I measured the largest part of my thigh and it's 24 inches around, while my mid thigh is 16 inches. My waist is only 28 inches, so that's only a four inch difference between my thighs and my waist... It's pretty disgusting. I mean, my entire thigh is the same size as a slender person's waist. And the discrepency between it and my mid thigh is huge. It's like I'm decent looking up to a point, and then I balloon up like crazy.

Is this normal? Is it ugly? u_u I feel like my thighs are abnormally large, bigger than most guy's. I'm only 18, I should be thin, not look like a body builder.

When I was at my thinnest, my waist (measured just below my belly button) was 26 inches and my thighs were at 21 inches each. I was so mad that I had these 'huge' thighs while the rest of me was practically waif-like.

Now that I've gained 80 lbs, I wish I could have those so-called 'huge' thighs back again. And I remember a lot of guys digging me because I had those shapely thighs. Don't stress too much about the size of your thighs. Be proud that you're healthy and active.

Do you do weight training for your legs? Or a lot of biking? I've heard those two activities can make a person who's genetically inclined for muscle bulk up quick. I hope to have thinner thighs this time around, so I'm staying away from biking for exercise and am lifting medium weight with lots of reps for my leg strength training routine.

korikun- my thighs are the same size as yours and my waist is about an inch bigger. i've had big legs all my life- even when I was a baby! i would like to argue that i'm normal-looking, and therefore you are too. what you should be worried about is how comfortable you are with your body. i know that no matter how hard i work i will have big, muscular legs. they will never be twiggy. i'm going to work hard to get my legs stronger and get rid of the flab. i would suggest concentrating on accepting what you can't change about your figure and working on what you can. :) hope i helped!

Your thinking is distorted. The truth is that other people don't really care that much what you look like. People who know you love you for who you are, the energy you bring to the world. Reach for love in the midst of your pain. Get some disordered eating counselling. You'll get better but you need some new information. Kelly

*Sigh*

21 inches is shapely?

I must be obese-looking, then, if mine are three inches thicker :(

I don't do weight training or anything. I go on walks and run, but that's it... I have almost no fat on my thighs, it's all muscle, so it's even harder to get rid of. I feel like I have huge body-builder legs and I'm not even that active, I'm just naturally big and muscular :\

I'm 5'8" and weigh about 130 pounds... Should I lose some weight in order to look thinner? I always try, but then I just end up bingeing, and I've been gaining about five pounds a year since I was 15.

I remeasured my waist and it's actually 27 inches, so there's only a 3 inch discrepency between my waist and my thighs :eek:h It's like I'm walking around with two of my torsos attached to my real one.

You're so tall! How cool! I bet your height makes your 24" thighs look like twigs. And you probably just *think* they look too big. Most of us, especially when we're dieting and scrutinizing every little inch, tend to blow things out of proportion, kwim?

At 130 lbs, you sound thin enough. Do you weight train for your upper body? Adding some muscle to your upper back and shoulders can give the appearance of smaller thighs.

Try not to be so hard on yourself. At 5'8" and 130 lbs, you ROCK!

I was just complaining about that the other day- my thighs are also 24 inches. On the same complain, my biceps are 12 inches. My big goal is to get 10 inch arms and maybe 22 inch thighs.

My waist is 30 though. So i don't know if this is proportionate or not... but i do know that i identify with your 24 inch thighs. Though i wish my waist was 28!

Eh heh.

About two inches were broken off my measuring stick.

TMI measurements follow xD

I measured my arms and they're nine inches around the bicep, around 5 1/2 inches around the wrist, and seven around my forearm.

24 inches around my waist, a few inches under my rib cage. 28 around the place where your jeans sit... Low waist? o_O

37" (o___o) Around my butt and 35" just below it, my hips I think.

So my thighs are actually 20-21 inches, maybe 22 >_> I dunno... They look so fat in the mirror. Muscles bulging all over the place  I get teased all the time for being fat, but nothing I do makes me lose weight, or more importantly, inches :(

I've stopped seeing my friends because they always comment on how 'big' I am now. I think it's because I'm tall and not skinny, so I look like she-hulk :\

Are these measurements huge? :| I just don't know if I'm normal for a teenager... They're supposed to be really skinny, but I'm not.

I'm 19 and when you say that all teenagers are suppost to be slender, thats just not true. Everyone has a different shape no matter you're age, and I wish you could realize that there is nothing wrong with that.

My thighs are also my problem area, although mine have some fat on them ha. If your legs are muscular thats not something you should be ashamed about because thats awesome!
If you reduce your calorie intake and you are not weight training you should lose both fat and muscle from your body, Im not sure thats what you really want however, but it could possibly reduce your muscular thighs.

I'm very concerned to hear you speak the way you do about yourself. First of all, 5'8 and 130 sounds underweight to me. I am 5'7 and I think I was 14 the last time I weighed 130 pounds. How can anyone be teasing you for being fat? You must be hanging out with the MK Olsen crowd!

Your measurements sound pretty amazing to me. 24 inch thighs or 22 inch thighs - which ever they are, if they are muscular is not big or huge as you're describing it. I don't think your problem is weight control half as much as it is body image. You look in the mirror and see something different from everyone else. You should be proud of your height and your size. Anyone who is criticizing that is probably jealous.

As long as your healthy and fit (which it sounds as if you are) be happy with that. It's so hard to feel good about yourself with all the images we have thrown at us in the media. Just remember - all of it is airbrused anyway!

I'm 14 years old, & I have 21 inch thighs and I seriously dislike them. I lost about half an inch in a week or so, and I continuously exercise and obsess over my eating. My friends and parents think I'm nuts 'cause I think I'm 'fat'. I have a small upper body, alright hips... really skinny legs... and bigger hips, the shape of an 'hour- glass' my mother tells me. And quite frankly- I'm so frustrated with my thighs. Do you think I might lose more inches though, since there's a little bit of flab, and now that I'm developing muscle? Muscle takes up less room then fat right? Sheesh I write like a book over here. My mom won't answer anymore of my questions, saying I've lost my mind! Do guys actually like bigger thighs?:toetap05:

Wow,

You girls make me feel really insecure :( I'm 5'4", 145 lbs. and have 23 inch thighs :( Granted, I have 25 lbs. to lose... but still... It makes me feel sad.

It's all about the quads

I just have to say, your thighs are not huge by normal standards. You're pretty light for your height anyway, so just do a lot of squats to tighten things up if you feel like it, and try not to worry. I'm the same height and 20 lbs. heavier, and I'm an amateur kickboxer. Sizeable, solid thighs are just a part of it.

Also... half of the heterosexual male population in the world likes butts and thighs on the bigger side. I didn't get it until a few guys in my gym explained it to me... I thought I had the biggest ass at the gym, just from genetics and the proportions of muscle and fat - little did I know that very part of my body had a huge fan club following in the weight room :coolgleamA:

I was just concious - my thighs are 20 inches. My waist is 26 though. So i don't know if this is proportionate or not... but i do know that i identify with your 24 inch thighs. Though i wish my waist was 24!

I found some formulas to calculate what the minimum size our bodies "should" be, as this topic got me very curious on the subject! So I'm going to share them, hee.

Remember though--these are just FORMULAS, and like BMIs, it doesn't hold true for all people. Don't get upset if your numbers don't match up, as, again, these are just FORMULAS. But, if you're like me and you just like to have some numbers to compare with, then here you go:

Well, I'm 15. I'm 5'5" and am currently @ 137 pounds. My thighs are 22-21 inches, but my waist is 25 inches. Trust me, I had 26 inch thighs 3 months ago when school let out and I've lost 25 pounds and about 12 inches everywhere, 21 inches is NOT big. For me it's a size 4, but I AM all muscles thanks to karate for 9 years, but don't let 21 inches get ot you because when you lose another 2 inches, you'll be thinking, DAMN, I look good! Hope I helped

My waist is 28 inches and my upper thigh is 20.5" and my lower thigh near my knee is 14.5

I would like to slim my legs down... but your measurements sound fine to me...

Lol, way to make me feel fat lady! I'm 18 and my waist is 27 1/2 on a good day! and my thighs are about 21.. and lets talk about being weird shaped. My waist is 27 1/2 my abdomen is about 34... sooooooo. hmm.... ( thats also where alot of my skin lays, but still, no one ELSE knows that. might as well be fat!) But your measurements are what i would LOVE to have, Stop WHINING GIRL! And what the hell is wrong with having muscular thighs? My entire bottom half is muscular, WHO CARES! It means youre FIT! lol.

If it makes any of you feel better, I'm 17 and I'm 5ft.

My waist is 33 inches, my hips are 40, my thighs are 24.5 inches and my calves are 15.5 inches.

If you put those measurements against my height, I'm basically a ball. :)

Oh and I weight 146 lbs.
