I found this site today, and have read a few threads..I am very excited to start a weight loss journey! I always find myself making excuses and I won't let it happen anymore! I have about 50+ lbs to lose and need to hold myself accountable! I'm hoping that joining this website will help!

I am 5'2 and I weigh 215 lbs. I looked into getting the lap band, but then I realized I don't eat that much or have a HUGE problem with portion control, my main problem is eating too many sweets. I plan on making a food diary, eating only when i'm hungry, and going to the gym atleast 3x per week.

I dont know how to turn the first one right side up, and I don't have any recent body pics. I plan on taking some and putting them up for before pics. Can anyone tell me how they keep motivation without having that many people for support?

you are a lucky lady. you have caught yourself at a weight where your weight loss goal isnt astronomically high and you are super cute, even chubby. you will drop tounges at your goal weight. good luck

Thank you guys!

Avsman- You are so right, I am very lucky that I didn't let myself get really big! I wish I wouldn't have let it even get to this point! Have you lost any weight by joining here?

i have been a member for a long time. i have been all over the place in weight since joining. my highest was probably pushing 350 and lowest was aroun 250. i lost 100 pounds or close to it and slowly got off the horse, became complaicant. bottom line, is i have been dieting again and am just under 300. so i guess you could say ive lost 50 pounds. i like to say i gained 50 lol

First off congrats on doing something positive to change your lifestyle and also for the weight loss so far.

As far as keeping motivated goes...

Think about how did/do your weight affect you? does it hold you back from achieving anything? Have any negative references about your weight ever effected you and how you feel about yourself ? Do you value yourself enough to be more healthy? If the answer is yes to any of the above, Think about those sorts of things, every time you feel as though you are about to make an excuse for not exercising or to eat unhealthily remember how you felt.

Taking pictures I would defiantly recommend, So that you can not only look back and see how far you have come, but also to remind yourself of how you used to be and that you don't ever want to go back there.

I wont go to much into this as I have a tendency to write essays, and as I'm not sure of your reasons for wanting to lose weight, I don't want to assume that you are unhappy with the way you look and that It's more of a health reason or something other than that.

Feel free to ask me anything although there are some great people on here who can give you advise on anything you are unsure of just search and 9/10 times you do find the answer, the people on here are really supportive.

A guy that stood out for me on here is Frogged - check him out, if you haven't already.

Frogged is a massive inspiration to me and many others on here, have a read and you will be amazed.

I read that he uses chewing gum to help with his sweet tooth...It works for him so maybe give that a try

Good luck with your weight loss

Sweets are my down fall too.....I totally understand...I could eat 6 donuts for a meal and be happy ...my body wasn't happy ..but my sweet tooth was loving life!!

Now the sweets are small treats and I am 40 pounds lighter...that is my favorite sweet thing now!!! :) :)

It is hard to be o n a weight loss journey if you do not have your friends and family behind you. I have done the bulk of mine by myself. I find that to keep me motivated I read other peoples success stories of losing weight. I look at before and after photos, and think to myself.... if they can do it so can I!

We are all here for you! You CAN do it!

AWelcome to the forums, Time! :)

This is an excellent place for support and motivation as I'm sure you're coming to find out :D

As others have already said, you're already so pretty and also very fortunate to have decided to make the change now instead of later.

I waited until I was 26 before I got my head on right :( I wasted a lot of years being unhappy and unhealthy, so I'm glad your seizing the time now! No more regrets or looking back on the past and wondering 'What if..'

Congrats on your recent weight loss and keep us posted with your progress :D

Oh, and minimee is too kind  hehe

But it's true about the gum - it really does help! I chew the extra sugar free gum (sweet watermelon flavor is my favorite!) :) It definitely prevents unwanted snacking and can save you hundreds of calories a day (no joke!) :D
