Time to start again.... Day # 834

HOLY MOLY! The last time I checked in on the Diary Front was July 23rd??? It's been such a crazy couple of months. Work has been insanely busy. I'm chairing a committee and involved in another one and have been on a few search committees, too. And, then I started taking classes again, too, in late August. It's just been plain nuts! And, accordingly, I've been very lax on the diet front. I know I've put on a few (ok, more than a few) pounds because my clothes are tightening up. I've not really been to the gym in well, probably over a month now... if not more? I really have no excuses other than life getting busy. The holidays looming doesn't help. I know it will be food central from Thanksgiving day on. So, my only plan of attack is to do well all the days that are NOT holidays and allow myself to cheat a bit on the actual holidays. I have to stop eating so much junk and get back in the game. And, I have to start going back to the gym or doing SOME sort of exercise. It snowed today - that does not make it easy for walking when the weather starts to turn! I don't mind walking in the snow and cold, just hate the slippy ice!

So, wish me luck. Today I started off with a pumpkin right-size smoothie. And, then I had some apple slices. Lunch is at 1:00. I have Progresso veggie soup (160 calories), a cheesestick, a yogurt, and some blackberries. My problem isn't the day, it's at night when I can eat like a fiend! Tonight I have plans, so I should be too busy to be thinking about food.... I hope!
 
Day # 836

I'm doing ok so far this week. Haven't gotten in much exercise (ok, not any) but foodwise I'm doing very well. Today I had apple oatmeal for breakfast. Lunch was vegetable soup, yogurt, some honey wheat pretzel sticks and jello. Dinner will be probably a baked potato loaded with salsa and non-fat cheese. I was running so late today getting out the house I didn't have time for a smoothie. Besides, it was 12 degrees when I left. Yes, ONE - TWO degrees. Far too cold for an icy cold beverage.

So, I love Starbucks and their seasonal Peppermint Mocha latte. I looked it up on the web site and even with nonfat milk and no whipped cream it's like 220 calories! What the heck? It's just coffee and some peppermint flavoring! What's with all the calories? Yikes!!! I think I'll stop at the grocery store and get some peppermint extract and try making it on my own!

Day # 838

Ok, so I love me some Peppermint Mocha, but A) I can't afford to stop at a coffee shop every day and B) it's far too many calories. So, I concocted my own. I got Suisse Mocha Sugar Free mix (International Coffees) and some peppermint extract. It's not half bad. I'm drinking some now at work. I think at home with some frothy milk I could very closely replicate it. Right now it's kind of flat because I don't have access to milk. The upside though? 30 calories. I could drink about what... 5 cups for the same amount of calories. YUM! I'm thinking come Christmas with some fat-free whipped cream and sprinkles on top it would make a lovely Christmas treat!

I've been doing fairly well this week with food. I did have a bit of a slip up last night. I had these caramel candy things leftover and even though I wasn't really that hungry, I hate about 6 of them. They are about the size of a tootsie roll. The only thing in my favor is they have no fat. Oh well, can't beat yourself up over every tiny mishap, right? Back on track today. I had apple oatmeal for breakfast and a banana. Lunch is a lean crapzene - spaghetti, YUMMMMMMMMM... and yogurt and fruit. Dinner will probably be soup. Since no one wants to go to Light Up Night with me (slackers!) I'm staying in and doing nothing other than eating soup and cuddling up with the puppies. It's supposed to be a cold one tonight.

This weekend's challenge: dinner out tomorrow with a friend and her hub. And, Sunday is birthday cake for my niece. If my sisters are reading this... please do not let me eat anything bigger than a sliver of cake. Or heck, get ice cream cake. I don't like that anyway!
