The Never Ending Ride of Weight Gains

Hello all,

First and foremost, I can't believe I'm back in this situation again but I guess reality hurts. I am a 26yr old male, 5'8", and currently and sadly weigh 244 lbs. My lowest weight ever was 171lbs about 2.5 years ago, of which I lost about 60lbs to get to that weight for police. Through sedentary life style, career changes, and a fridge full of excuses I have gained it all back.

I am writing this hopefully to garner support from both myself and others, and possibly if I succeed to be a testimonial to others. That said, my overall goal is to lose 75lbs in 6 months. I am prospectively looking to join the USAF, of which that is my ideal weight to be allowed to join.

So far I have already lost 3 lbs in a week and I feel good about the life change and prospective goal. I am looking forward to working towards being able to run 2 miles in 15 minutes, and finally fit into size 32" pants. However, if anyone is on a similar path or has endured this challenge before don't be afraid to comment and offer suggestions tips. I'm all ears.

I will try to post in this thread at least once weekly to update my weight totals and how the week went for me. Hopefully by the end of 4-6 months I can see some results and look back on this path and gain not only confidence and a healthy life but optimism towards the future.

Hi jiblition & welcome to the forum. This is totally doable. I am only just a fraction shorter than you, female, much older & weighed a fraction more than you do now, back in 2007. I lost 36kg(79lbs) in 6 months. I followed a very strict, very low carb & low calorie diet, supervised by a doctor, for those 6 months, but hardly exercised.
I don't think I see the point telling you all the details & I have to leave now, but you will get lots of support here. Keep us posted, tell us what you're eating etc, tell us how you're going & we'll offer any help we can. Cheers & once again, welcome, Cate.

Thanks Cate,

I will definitely update and it's pretty encouraging to hear about your progress, congratulations that's a heck of an achievement. I plan to exercise 5 days a week and go from there, ironically for being so much overweight I can still run at a decent pace for 2-3 minutes on a treadmill so I have something to build off.

Thanks again, will keep the thread updated.

We're roughly the same age, height and weight. I'm right there with you, bud. Feel the pain and melt that fat off. I'm curious about how you'll couple the exercise with what you'll be doing eating wise. I'll be on this journey with you when you meet that goal! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks dude,

Glad to hear that someone is in the same relative boat. This week I felt like I made some progress. I managed to workout Mon/Tue and today, did the usual 3miles by my house and then hit the gym at 11 for another 30m of cardio and hit arms heavy. Actually felt nice to move some heavy weight again. That said, I realized i need a new small goal. The gym has a long set of monkey bars about 8 ft high, and let me tell ya, when you are overweight and out of shape monkey bars are no joke. Essentially hanging trying to swing my weight with 75lbs of fat holding me back. Not fun. But gotta start somewhere I guess. Ordered a scale finally for home so I can see how good/bad I'm doing. Hope everyone else is making some progress as well.

Oh and I found a heavy weight set cable row machine so I can finally work on getting some back muscle. Woo.
