Day 2 - 3.2 miles in 33:42, average pace of 10:31

Thanks to being with a couple of speedy friends, this was my quickest pace in recent memory, with the exception of my one mile from yesterday. I was wiped out last night, though. It was a hot one out there. One of said speedy friends wants to do a modified streak with me... She missed Monday and will have to miss a day or two for a medical procedure next week, but will do 41 runs in as many days. She ran twice yesterday, so she'll just have to double up as necessary.

Last night's salad was as yummy as expected, which is good because that's lunch today, too. My fail was eating a cookie just because I was tired. Only 130 calories, but I didn't need it. I was exhausted, but G-man was ten minutes away from going to bed and I knew I wasn't going to fall asleep in that ten minutes if I went to bed without him, so I just stayed up and waited. And ate a cookie.

Day 3 - 1 mile in 11:06

Day 4 - 3.16 miles in 35:39 (67? with 80% humidity

I'm doing a 10k this weekend with a friend. She says she's not ready, but she'll still kick butt.

One beer last night with dinner, which was hot dogs and baked beans. Then I sneakily ate my last two cookies. Really I should only keep treats individually wrapped in the freezer. That's the safest way for me to have sweets around. I had fully intended to snack later on in the evening but I refrained, so at least it was only 260 calories worth of guilt.

I've drank homemade smoothies every morning this week, and I like this routine. Oats, chia seeds, unsweetened soy milk, fruits, and either spinach or kale. I've started adding a date in and now they are extra sweet and delicious. I make a couple at a time to throw in the freezer and defrost in the fridge for 24 hours. So easy!

I love smoothies! They're a huge go to for breakfast in the summer. I usually make mine with fruit, spinach or cucumber, kefir, and some kind of flavorful/aromatic herb. And I agree completely on freezing individually wrapped treats. Best way to have something if you really want it, but make it easy not to go overboard.

The only way I could do a 10k right now is on the treadmill! A actual 'race' OUTSIDE, no way. I can hardly must 6k, but slowly getting there.

Mystic, I bet you'd surprise yourself!! The race environment is a fun one. I'm the opposite of you, I haven't done 10k on a treadmill in years. But now that I'm thinking about it, the treadmill was great for learning how to keep a consistent pace.... Maybe I should get back to the gym.

Cory, aren't smoothies just so refreshing?? I love the cold factor. I get so annoyed with individually wrapping stuff for the freezer but it's worth the hassle for sure.

Brrr, cold breakfast! I wouldn´t warm up until lunchtime, I never cease to marvel at human diversity.

I was actually thinking of you when I wrote that, LaMa, because I remembered us discussing this before! Don't get me wrong, on a cold winter morning a hot bowl of oatmeal hits the spot. But I wouldn't hesitate to have a cold smoothie in the winter. Tell me to have oatmeal in the summer and I'd tell you to pound sand.

Day 5 - 1.03 miles in 10:28
Day 6 - 1.06 miles in 11:35

I'm saving my legs for tomorrow's 10k. Day 5's run was a loop near my house but for day 6 I ran straight away from my house and walked the mile back. Gotta get in some steps. It was hot, but I was dressed for sweating so it didn't matter.

Very cool to see you doing another run streak! Good luck with the 10K! I've had a very low mileage week because of working outside all week, but once I get my stamina back I'd like to do another 10K distance just to see how I do and push a bit before it gets super hot. With all of the rain we've had I've been in the gym a lot because even when it stops the humidity makes running pretty miserable.

Sorry about your butt. I hope it doesn't bother you long. Running should help work out the soreness.

Have fun with the streak and remember E and I will be streaking along with you!

Mmm, a steamy bowl of chili (or curry) for summer breakfast! I don´t envy your 10k today though, I´m going for a little hike and will be glad of any shade I can get.

Day 7, 10K race: If you look at the official results I did 6.2 in 1:03. If you look at my RunKeeper data, I did 6.39 in 1:03. Is this important? Yes, because that's a difference of a 10:11 pace or a 9:53 pace. RunKeeper is probably accurate but it stinks that my official results don't reflect a sub 10:00 pace! Either way, I'm proud of myself. There were more hills than I remembered, which slowed me down for a couple of miles, but I finished my last two miles crazy strong.

LaMa, we got a nice break from our recent heat and actually had rain before AND after the race, but just cloudy skies during the event itself. Couldn't have asked for anything better. I hope you found lots of shade for your outdoor activities, I'll go check in on you and see how you did :)

Q, I knew you'd be happy to see me back doing what we do! I'm happy having you guys still going strong. The butt is still as bruised as I've ever seen myself, but it's not too painful, really. And it's kind of formed the shape of a giant heart, which is a welcome change from the previous description of a fetus. And actually my hip, which has been hurting for a few months, seems to enjoy the increased activity. Things are looking up!

So much good stuff! If it weren´t your backside I´d ask for a picture of your heart-bruise though :D

Well LaMa we've all seen her booby so what's the big deal with a butt pic?

Seriously sweet 10k! Sub 10 is no joke. Way to wrap up week 1!

Thanks, Mystic! I keep waiting for you to get into racing..... someday you'll surprise us!

LaMa and Q, be jealous you can't see, the inside is fading much faster than the outside so now it's more like the outline of a heart. It's kind of amazing.

Monday Recap:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup cottage cheese, ham/egg/cheese english muffin, fruit
Lunch: Leftover pasta with salmon
Dinner: Pork tenderloin with salad
Snacks: 3 Oreos (sneaky) and about 3 servings of chips [estimated about 600 calories total]

Exercise: Day 8 - 1 mile on the treadmill in 10:58. Walked a half mile before and after the run.

O well, a description is better than nothing I guess ;) Food sounds good but where do these snack-triplets come from?

I don't want to talk about my snacks, LaMa! Those were poor choices for after dinner treats, and the three servings of chips involved me stuffing my hand into a bag that held 4 servings, while laying on the couch under a blanket watching tv. Mindless munching at its finest.

Lately I've been falling into that "tomorrow/next week/eventually I'll do better" trap. I've been focusing on what things might be like in a month or two, but haven't been focusing on the short-term at all. Which means my goals and plans are pushed back indefinitely because no progress is ever made. So today I'm going to make an effort to think about the next couple of days and nothing more.

Tuesday through Thursday goals:

-Post everything that I eat or drink.
-Avoid alcohol of any kind.
-Do pushups one day.
-Listen to my body with running.

I've got some raw skin on the bottom of one foot due to a torn blister from Sunday. My run streak friend who did the 10k with me ran 2.5 miles yesterday while I only did one. AND THAT'S OK. And if I only run one today, that's ok too. I was feeling a little down yesterday but that's not fair to myself.

Now that sounds like a woman with a plan! I feel boring when I post everything I eat but it really helps. And listening to your body is the only thing that works in the long run.
