The Journey so far

Here's a quick snap shot of my life. When I was younger I was a fitness junkie as well as being involved in extreme sports, so I used to be in pretty good nick. Then I got married, had kids and along with being a muso, didn't have much time for exercise. So before I knew it, I started packing on the pounds. About 2 years ago I lost most of it, started running again and eating a pretty healthy diet, thinks were looking up. Unfortunately, my marriage fell apart and I turned to my old coping methods of eating take out a couple times a day, before I knew it, I up at 110kg and feeling worse than ever, that's when the first photo was taken.

Anyway, now I'm on my journey to back into the same shape I was when I was in my twenties. The second photo was taken today. It actually surprised me when I compared it to the old one. I'm feeling better, but I still have about 18kg to go. This forum has been a big inspiration to me, not just to lose weight, but turn my whole life around.

You can definitely see a difference!

Great job, man. It's always inspiring to see someone cope with their past issues and reform themselves into leading a healthy life style again :)

Hang tough and keep us posted!

wow well done!!! it really inspires me seeing pictures of people who have lost weight successfully, congratulation again you look fantastic!

Hi everyone, thanks for the kind words. I thought I'd post my goals today. I want to get down to at least 80 kg and to be able to run 5 km with relative ease, so my plan is basically to consume no more than 1500 calories per day. I've started running this week along with lots of pushups and dumbell curls. Being a busy musician I don't have time to spend hours in the gym each day, so I've opted to try the above as all I need are some running shoes and a pair of dumbells. It's also easy to maintain when I travel with my band. The hardest part is dragging myself out of bed at 6am in the morning to go running, it just doesn't seem right to be up as the sun rises.

Anyway, I'll post some more pics next weekend to keep track of my progress.

Have a great week guys and girls.

Here's my photo update for the fortnight. The guy's and gal's of this forum are an inspiration. A couple of months ago, getting into shape was just distant dream that I thought would never happen. Now it's actually starting to happen :) You have all not just changed your own lives, but the lives of many others, myself included. Thanks again.

I started using a little iphone app to keep track of my calorie intake, exercise and weight loss. It's interesting to note how much your weight actually fluctuates on a daily basis, irrespective of how many calories you consume or the amount of exercise you do. For instance, I went running twice yesterday, once in the morning and once at night, and I pushed myself harder on the night run. When I jumped on the scales this morning I'd gained 300 grams. I find it helps to motivate me though, keeping track on the app really helps you to stay focussed.

Have a great day guys and gals :)

Well, here's another photo update. It seems like I've hit a bit of a plateau this week, but I feel like I'm getting fitter though. Just keep pushing on though :)

Hi Bricka,

I think you have to taylor your food and exercise to your lifestyle. I'm a professional musician, so I spend most of life in a room with a guitar, so in my everyday life, my fingers get a great workout, but not much else.

Anyway, I try to keep to under 1500 cal a day, about 1300 if I can help it. A typical day looks like this for me:

- Wake up, run 3 km
- Pushups, 3 sets of 20
- Dumbell curls, 2 sets of 15, 1 set of 20.

Breakfast
- Bottle of water
- 1 poached egg on a slice of wholemeal toast (no butter, salt etc )

Snack
- 1 Apple

Lunch
- Bottle of water
- 1/2 cup of rice
- 1 185gr tin of Tuna in brine, drained

Snack
- 2 squares of 70% dark chocolate

Dinner
- Bottle of water
- 1/2 cup rice
- Stirfry chicken & vegetables ( Broccolli, capsicum, carrot, mushrooms, bok choy, spanish onions )

Snack
- 2 squares of 70% dark chocolate

I drinks heaps of water. I've pretty much cut out drinking anything but water. I do eat something stupid every now and then, but I follow the sayings of Dory "just keep swimming, just keep swimming ........." For me it's just a case of don't give up. failure is the spring board of success. I'm also being patient, I have a 15 week plan/ goal that I'm working to, and so far, I'm sticking to it.

Good luck with your journey and I wish you all the best.

Peace
