The Diary of a Sinner

Take a deep breath and relax...

Don't punish yourself by denying yourself food that you enjoy... Portion control and moderation is something that practically all of us are learning... A steak and cheese sandwich isn't a don't touch this food for you - a small one would probably be OK...

Diets tend to fail because people aren't satisfied with what they are eating... if you're turning into a rabbit eating nothing but salad, or plain burgers you're gonna get bored soon... I know I would... You can have "good" foods... portion and preparation are the key...

Good for you for getting rid of the candy... and i'm so sorry that you cried... you were upset... you turned to a sweet treat when you were upset - you are not alone in doing that...

Give yourself a break... :D

The mental preparedness for the challenge in front of you is the key to consistent daily decisions that are required for successful results.

You passed today's mental challenge. I'm proud of you.

Eventually you will be more consumed with results and the mind will let go of the food aspect and work with you on your goal. It will take time. You have bad habits to fix right now. Don't expect too much from yourself to the point it makes you fail. It's a delicate balance during the 'tender' times.

Hang in there ~Sam~

Thanks T2 & Mal. I love you both!
I can't pry myself away from this site. I'm so addicted to all the support. I've always lacked support.

Breakfast

1 waffle

Lunch
2 hard boiled eggs

dinner
Salad ( lettuce, tomato, onion, carrot shreds, cucumber and mushrooms) topped with grilled chicken breast.

Ouch ~Sam~ !! A girls gotta eat !!

Menus aren't my forte` but I believe one of these kind ladies in here can get you uprighted on some type of menu.

That menu has failure written all over it. Sorry.

I am being realist T2. I know it won't work forever. But I have this idea that I can shrink my big fat belly this way...and won't want to eat all the time. Does that make sense?

You will shrink your belly size by portion control.

Please understand, I eat 6 to 9 times a day. I rarely allow my belly to go to complete emptiness or I would only want to consume more food in bigger craving kinda ways. A belly with food in it is a happy belly thus a happy dieter.

First of all, welcome to the forum! :D

And don't be disappointed in yourself! You may have opened that candy and wanted to eat it but you didn't! Good for you! You do have control and you can do this! :D

I know what you mean about being addicted to the site and the support. Have you seen how many posts I have? Sheesh! ;)

try these menu suggestions on for size...

or non fat cottage cheese with some chopped up fruit...

Lunch
2 eggs, mixed with 1 tbs of low fat mayo, 1 tsp dijon mustard, some chopped celery served on whole grain bread or some Wasa krisp bread crackers, with sliced tomatoes (probably about 300 calories) throw ina chopped up pickle or some relish for a little crunch and a lot of flavor if you aren't watching salt.

or
Tuna fish mixed as above, on whole grain bread or some wasa crisp bread or even in a cucumber, sliced lengthwise and seeds scooped out

Big Salad of Romaine Lettuce with a handful of chopped fresh strawberries or blueberries, dressing of your choice (depending on dressing that'll be about 150 calories)

or

Served with
A chicken breast that's been marinated in lemon juice and garlic and grilled (or baked in the oven) sliced and served with the salad (a 5 ounce breast is about 250 calories)
(there's a bunch of marinade ideas in the recipes portion - bronski posted one todat that sounds divine)

or use a turkey breast cutlet same marinadey stuff or some salmon.
(keep your portion sizes under 5 ounces and you'll be fine)

handul of strawberries

Hey samantha.... Food temptations are always going to be an issue when you live in a house with people who aren't on a diet. Even when people come to visit with food it just makes it that much harder. I was alot like you when it came to sugar. It wasn't that I wanted something sweet but I had to have it. when I cut off sugar it took about three days for the headache and cravings to go away. It got so bad I even had to get off white starches as much as I could because I noticed that a few hours after I had rice or potatoes or bread I wanted something sweet so bad. The menu your eating sounds kinda light. Go to one of those calorie sites and put in your height and weight and see how many calories you are taking in. you will probably find you can take in more than the rabbit food and still lose weight. I was really in shock when the Dr told me I was taking in 6000 calories a day. It just helps to give yourself some perspective on the calories that you take in now. Basically if your taking in well say 3000 calories and you start taking in 500 a day. Your body is smarter than you think and will shut down thinking your having a famine and try to hold on to every thing you have and its acts just like a stall. Just be careful not to under feed your body its the only one you have. unless your a gazillion air then you can just buy a new one ;)

Thanks for the words of encouragement Lee. You are doing an excellent job with this weight loss thing! Bet you're gonna be smokin'! Wanna lose some of my weight for me? LOL- I wish that was possible.

Well, I didn't eat any of my Birthday cake. It was my absolute FAVORITE...and I didn't eat any. I cleaned my house all day before I went to my birthday cook-out. I scrubbed the floors. Cleaned the toilets, and showers. I dish laundry, and washed all the dishes, as well as windows. I also took my dog for a walk, so I think I got some exercise in.

I ate a piece of grilled chicken breast off the grill, and a salad. (ranch dressing) I was satisfied. I didn't keep eating once I was full, so that's a big step forward. I drank my bottled water, and was content for the rest of the evening. The only problem I'm having is those late night cravings. We all know about those right? I couldn't find anything really spectacular, so I settled for an apple. I continue to drink lots of water as well, because it makes me feel full. Unless that's just my imagination, but I swear I feel like I've ate when in reality I've only had water. Wierd....

Hey samantha.... yea the late night sweet tooth can get bad. sometimes Ill have a small piece of fruit. something that is naturally sweet like a piece of melon or some such. you body thinks you have had sugar and seems to calm down. Now there is sugar in fruit but its natural and not that overly concentrated stuff. Another option for a sweet craving is get a bag of sugar free candy. most of them are sweetened with sugar alcohols so just have one or two pieces they can kinda give your tummy the rumbles lol. Some people just have a reaction to them if they have too much. The water does kinda fill you up at times. Its not an always fix but if your just a Little hungry out of boredom it will normally work. Find a calorie counter and find things that don't have many calories in them. salad fixings, celery, mushrooms. I love to bake or broil mushrooms when I'm kinda hungry and its heavy enough that it last awhile and doesn't have much in the way of calories at all. your body will want some things and you just have to teach it what it can have. I think your doing great. The first few weeks are long lol. Just make sure your taking in enough food. I have lost more by eating a bunch of small meals rather than going on the lean side. you will just have to see what works for you..........

Don't get me wrong, I love apples, but I only eat them when I want a snack that'll fill me up until meal time. It's usually not sweet enough for me.
When I get late night cravings I indulge them. But with healthy alternatives. When I want something savory, I have beef jerky; one serving is like 80 cals. When I want something crunchy and salty I get one of those individual bags sizes of low fat popcorn, so good and only a 100 cals. When I want something sweet and crunchy (and usually chocolaty) I have a chocolate rice cake, only 60 cals. When I want some sweet but not necessarily crunchy, I have a piece of fruit. Peaches, plums, strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe are in season right now. For the melons, I cut them up and stick them in a big bowl in the fridge and then I don't have an excuse not to eat them.

Another alternative is to have a small dinner and then have another small dinner later in the evening.

I continue to drink lots of water as well, because it makes me feel full. Unless that's just my imagination, but I swear I feel like I've ate when in reality I've only had water. Wierd....

It's actually not that weird. A lot of people mistake hunger for thirst, weird thought, I know. But a lot of people find that when they think they are hungry and they drink water instead, their hunger level goes down or disappears. Most people are dehydrated and don't realize it. A good reference for how many oz of water you should be consuming is like half your body weight in oz. Like for instance, my weight is 230 lb, so I should be consuming around 115 oz of water per day. Of course, you'll be running to the rest room, probably for the first week, but then your bladder adjusts back to normal.

Tell me about it Lee. Late night is the worst for me. My baby goes to bed at around 10:00 pm, and after she's asleep...it's all down hill from there. My hands and mind are no longer occupied. I don't go to bed when she does because that is my time. I have very little my time, so I take advantage of what I can get ya know? I've been cleaning my house a whole lot. Which is good because it keeps me busy, and I have tons of stuff to go through anyway because of the recent move. I've started to re-paint some rooms as well. I didn't like the colors when we purchased this property, so painting will be a great activity to get my mind off the food. I also want to remodel the kitchen a bit, so that too, will help keep my mind off things. I've decided to use goal weights as a reward. For example;
I want to paint my kitchen cabinets a different color. So, once I drop 10lbs. I will go buy the paint I need for this project.
I want to paint my walls a brilliant apple green color, so once I drop another 10lbs. I will go buy the paint for this project.
I want a wonderful color scheme of mosaic tile as my back splash, so once I drop another 20lbs. I will buy the tile for this project.
I want beautiful hard wood floor laminate for my kitchen floor (which is rather costly) so I was thinking this will be my big reward. Once I reach my GOAL weight. I will purchase the flooring, and have it installed.

WOW- I rambled a lot!

Beef jerky is a favorite of mine! I will have to buy some. That would be a great snack for me to have once in a while, because I am trying to watch my sodium intake as well.

Breakfast
1 banana
1/2 cup oatmeal
water

Lunch
1 sliced apple
1 6oz. cup banana cream yogurt
2 hard boiled eggs

NO DINNER YET...will edit later

Redoing the kitchen ::::::::girly screech::::::: I have been wanting to do the same thing. Its a good room to redo though it is normally costly but this you already know.

Well, I fell off the wagon. I ate baby back spare ribs. My husband said they are probably loaded with fat. Just great...and I've been doing so well. I don't know why I assumed eating something we call a PIG didn't send off a BIG do NOT eat flag!!!!

Meat in general has a lot of calories not counting the BBQ sauce. I wont go into numbers you feel bad enough. It fine just start over again. One meal shouldn't make you back slide too bad.

Hey guys, guess what I did?
Well- I felt horrible over the dinner I had...just horrible. SOOOOOO *drum roll please* I walked 3 times around my circle. That is equal to 3 miles. It is exactly 1.2 miles around one time. I am proud of me! Tired....but definitely proud.

Yay for you!!!
That's great that instead of just feeling guilty, you went out and did something to make yourself feel better!! :D
Wow, 3 miles!
