The desire to get fit!

Hello everyone!

My name is Matthew and I am 26 years old.

I joined this forum to hopefully help myself get motivated about getting fit. I used to work out and had a pretty physically laboring job, but then I quit that job and got a "lazy" job and also quit working out. I guess I was satisfied with where I was at that point, but it has lead to where I am now. However, I am positive about it! I see it as new material that I can turn into muscle. :)

I am 5' 11" tall and currently weigh 196 lbs while before I weighed 154 lbs. My idea is not really to lose the weight and get back to where I was as I looked "too skinny" but simply convert the fat to muscle.

I've tried to start working out again for about a year but can never stick with it like I used to. The only thing different between then and now is I currently didn't have a way to keep track and get feedback on my progress. I like taking pictures and, before, I had done a picture once a week that helped keep me motivated and on track.

So that is what I plan on doing here. I hope no one minds! :)

Today, April 7th 2013 is day 1.
196 lbs

Thanks Trusylver! :)

First week down! Staying motivated!

Started drinking 1 cup of 2-parts 100% apple juice, 2-parts 100% grape juice, and 1 part apple-cider vinegar once a day today. Has anyone done this and/or know how effective it is for your health?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Matthew welcome welcome!
The boards are awesome for motivation and support so you have def come to the right place
I Look forward to hearing how you get on :)

Thanks for the welcomes!
I appreciate it!

Decided to do these a day early this week as I have a full day tomorrow with a funeral and a memorial service.

The results are coming at a pretty consistent pace. Week 2 down!

Hey Matthew, welcome to the forum! Keep in mind that drinking fruit juice has a lot of sugar in it (even if it is natural). I try to stick with the veggie V8 and water, but that's just me. :)

Thanks for the welcome and the tip Fox! :)

Progress for week 3 seems to be under my expectations giving how hard I pushed but I understand why.

In week 1 I was only able to run for a maximum time of 3 minutes on the tread mill. In week 2 the maximum amount of time I could run was 6 minutes. For week 3 I was able to run for 18 minutes@6.0. I am hoping to be able to get to 25+ minutes at 6.0 this week! Each day I run for 30 minutes so in the first two weeks it was a lot of speeding up and slowing down. I'll be happy when I can run the entire 30 minutes and then I'll start speeding up the pace from there and going 6.1+.

Aiming for a better week for week 4 and to finally shave my face LOL! I hope you guys are enjoying your workouts as much as I am!

From the beginning to now I haven't really watched what I ate which has really been counteracting all my hard work at the gym. Today I will start the protein diet listed in the book "24hr body". Although I am happy with my results so far as they may be slow but they are consistent and steady. I just know that me eating anything I want really isn't helping me go in the direction I want to with my body. It is just creating more work for myself.

At the moment I am running 2-2.6 miles in 30 minutes for 5 days a week and lifting every other day (no free-weights at the moment). I am hoping that if I couple what I've been doing with a well-organized dietary plan that I will get some better results.

This picture day (Sundays) have really kept me motivated to go to the gym every day! I had thought that I missed taking pictures on the 28th as I didn't see the folder on my computer but was glad I didn't miss a week like I had thought.

Hope everyone is doing great,

Matthew
