The day after squats

Hi, The day after i do squats, the place on my back/shoulder area where i had the bar resting kinda hurts. Is this normal? if its not i don't want to damage anything and will just use the shoulder rest thingy for the bar.

How long have you been doing Squats?

When most people start out, your body isn't used to holding a heavy bar on their traps, so sure, their is some pain for awhile while you get used to it.

If you have been doing Squats for awhile, then perhaps is time to analyse your technique. The most important thing when it comes to weight is technique, especially big exerices like Squats. Ask a personal trainer to watch you Squat and see if you are doing them properly.

A good thing to do it push the bar as far down your back as you can, and try raise your elbows up so that it doesnt fall down.....this also stops people from leaning forward as much.

Might feel awkward at first.

its normal to be a little tender at first. it can also be that the bar is too high...see if you can get it down another inch, while still maintaining a reasonable degree of comfort (as comfortable as squats can be ;) )

thx for the suggestions, and to reply to spartan's question i haven't been doing them for very long so i guess its gonna hurt for a bit.
