The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Well - I have to admit that I was quite keen until I worked out that it was going to cost me money... Then I decided against it...

To be honest - I maintained fine when things were generally going well... I gained weight when things went really badly (my husband needing 5 operations, then us relocating)... I would have gained weight and failed maintenance if I was a member of their scheme or anything else... questionnaires would have gone unanswered, I would have skipped every day of exercise that I skipped and eaten every last morsel...

I failed maintenance - but I dont regret the decision not to join up.

LOL by their definition I didnt fail as I am still 132 pounds below my start weight and I have maintained the first 30 pounds for the best part of six years (I started my project at the end Feb 2007)...

I was 336 back in 08...Have been between 277 and 293 since then...never been back to 300 but came close once. Congrats on scoring a 35 dollar bike! Garage sale? I love garage sales!

Target clearance. The bike was up on an overhead rack so i think it got ignored by shoppers as the stickers got piled thick. It was $120 bike to start with, so it isn't a brand name or anything. It's a fixed gear which means no cheap shifter/derailer to foul up. It quit raining so I think I'll strap on the headlamp and go for a ride. Who cares if it's 10 PM wet and 50 out?

I went to the bike shop today to talk about my nice bike. They may have the one I want by the time I reach my goal, but if not it takes 4-5 days for them to get it in and no extra to order it.

Also, I'm a few hundred under goal for the day. I ate what I wanted, that's just how it ended up. I can get used to days like that.

I got my hour done. About 20 minutes on the real bike, but my light is too dim to ride on such a dark night. Straight in for 40 minutes on the spin bike.

I can't believe my stolen bike made it all the way to Texas. :D

Congrats on the new wheels. I may wait until summer to buy one for me (of all the things you could theoretically do outside here in the summer, bicycling may make the most sense). I may go fixed gear as well.

I'm liking the fixed gear so far, but I haven't tried any serious hills out. I will today. I'd check Target if I were you. For $35 why wait until summer. It isn't a nice bike, but you wouldn't be out much if the bike bandit returns.

326.0 this morning. This pleases me. -23.2 overall and -9 for the contest. -6.6%

Excellent job, Quercus! That bike sounds great too. My uncle, who recently passed away, was a British cycling Olympian from way back. He medalled several times. He told me many stories about how he cycled on a fixed BIG gear bike... said it took some cranking to get it up to speed, but after that he said he just flew.

327.4 Back up 1.4 pounds from yesterday. I'm establishing a pattern of weekend lows and Monday highs with my weight. That trend line is headed south so it's all good.

I did poorly with water yesterday as I stayed busy all day and didn't really remember to drink my water. I came in on calories and got my hour of exercise through cleaning and moving junk out of the house and around in the house all day. An unplanned day off from pedaling, but I got my room where I work out in much better shape. I'm still working on it, but in the end I'll have a monitor mounted on the bike with over 2 terabytes of movies/TV to choose from while I ride.

Some reassuring figures.

Using yesterday's weight and number of days in the competition I'm losing at the rate of .6 pounds a day. Using today's weight and number of days in the competition I'm losing at .5 pounds a day. So if you take the average of .55 pounds a day by the end of the competition on 3/29/13 I'll be 301.55 pounds. My goal is 299.2 for the contest and my bike. At .6 pounds a day would result in 299.2 on the dot!

So, what to do? Step it up a notch to make sure I keep my daily loss average up so I can get the bike and a win in the comp. 299.2 by March 29, 2013 is happening!

Likely the health unconsciousness of the deep fried with extree cream gravy southeast effects bike prices here.

I would think the lack of disposable income due to the costs of monthly tattoos would suppress the prices here as well.

See, you're likely having a lot of can't afford a car due to all my tats so I ride a bike price inflation. Next time you see cyclists check for the presence of what I like to call "human doodle pad". This is especially prevalent in adult males riding boy's bikes with trick pegs.

My apologies if that was your next bike purchase.

Hey, you got a bike? I am so out of it!!! It's been ages since I read diaries..b4 the weekend...lol.
So how is eat working out? Tried any steep hills yet?
That was a great bargain btw. Go you!

There's a phenomenon down here I didn't see a whole lot of back in Chicago: smoking while riding a bicycle. It just doesn't seem to make any sense.

I like it so far, but no steep hills yet. It has been raining almost the whole time I've had it. I'll be using the spin bike tonight.

I set up a computer with the monitor mounted on the bike and a wireless mouse and keyboard on a shelf beside the bike so I can watch movies and TV shows while I pedal. I'm about to go try it out.

Wow Mr. Vee that's special! I had a buddy that would go run at lunch and smoke before he took his shower so he wouldn't smell bad. He went to school in AZ, maybe he learned that there.

Finished my hour on the bike and pushed myself harder than ever before. Came in 404 calories under without accounting for the exercise. Kicking taking etc.

I watched the first 1 and a quarter episodes of a 24 episode documentary on the cold war. I like it when I pick up where I left off because it gives me incentive to get on the bike. I need to rewire the sound, as only one speaker was hooked up and clear a space for the monitor to sit when not in use to get the cords out of the way.

325.2 this morning!
-24 pounds -6.9%
-19.8 pounds -5.7% for the contest.
