The big oak (Quercus) needs to drop some dead limbs!

Thanks Don!
Justina I ended up doing meetings and paperwork for 12 hours instead. I think the rain might have been better.

I am headed to Austin tomorrow, but I'll post the weigh in. This will be the first Austin trip on the wagon and I'm going to a bar for a show. I don't feel the least bit tempted. The food is another matter. We'll see how that goes.

Good luck on the trip and rather have food if that helps with the other temptation. But you are strong and you will have the power to resist it all.

Thanks Mands! Drinking won't be a temptation. I don't miss it. My guess is that being around people that have been drinking heavily will strengthen that feeling.

There is so much good food to be had in Austin so I may cut loose a bit, but I'll make up for it. Being super strict hasn't done a lot of good in the past month. I could use the break.

325.4 this morning which means I'm still not back down to 2 weeks ago. That weight must have been artificially low to take this long and still not be back down. I'm down 23.8 pounds total. This month the weight has crept down like a slug on a snow bank when it hasn't been going up. I think I'm in a new phase of this whole thing. I'm resolved to keep my changes permanent and work hard, but I am no longer in the excitement phase.

I think in the past I just keep pushing things and repeatedly make the calorie restrictions unreasonably low to stay in the state of rapid loss and consequently in that exciting phase of weightloss.

I realize that there will be excitements and frustrations to come, but I'm okay with just staying the course and watching the weight slowly creep down in a healthy and sustainable manner.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Also, I am finally down another inch on the belly measure. That makes 6 inches off since December. that's 60% of my new bike goal and 30% of my 40 inch belly measurement long term goal. Actually the goal is less than 40 inches as that is the cut off measure for males with an increased risk of weight related health risk.

So math time.

If these losses are linear then I'm looking at about 4 pounds lost per inch loss, so the 40 inch mark would also be about 269 pounds.

That would also mean another 6 inches to lose to hit 300.

It also means that I'll hit my -10 inch bike goal at 309 which would be before my 50 pounds lost option on the bike goal which is 299.2.

I coupled 50 pounds and 10 inches for the bike goal originally beacause that was the halfway point to a 40 inch belly measurement and to the reasonable ultimate goal of 100 pounds lost.

249.2 pounds would be the 100 pound mark and a predicted 35 inch belly measurement.

It will be cool to see how this is reflected in reality.

249.2 would also be a weight I have not been since I was a 14 year old boy or nearly 24 years ago.

I have absolutely been there before... that's where I stop recognizing this is a process and assume that the relationship between calories consumed & burned is linear... when it clearly is NOT. Great attitude about the process, Quercus. Keep up the best efforts and it will work in your favor.

Aye, Don't feel you're stuck in a rut, Better to enjoy what you're doing/eating, and lose less per week (But it's still a loss!) then hate what you're doing for a shorter time.

Hope you enjoy Austin, and just don't go mad! :D

Steve

Thanks Don and Steve!

I made the conscious decision to enjoy the great food in Austin. I will have a calorie max of 2000 calories a day this week to make it up. That's 380 calories less a day for 7 days. I didn't count calories, but I ate French pastries, macaroons, fancy cheeses, and a concoction that was the best meal I've had in a long time. It was a corn meal, jalapeño, and cheese pancake topped with ancho shredded chicken, 2 fried eggs, sour cream, and pico de gallo. It was fabulous! no drinking or any temptation.

I regret nothing. I managed over an hour of walking Friday and Saturday. but not today. I had 3 of my 4 new fruits/veggies this weekend too. Pepino melon (gross), sunchoke (yummy), and an Opal apple (very yummy). I also got a Japanese yam and an Ugli which will make 5.

The show on Friday was awesome! We got to visit with the lead singer that we came to hear and she is a very sweet person. It turned into print carving talk with my wife which was great as she never has anyone to talk carving with. Check out Dana Falconberry if you like great folky/indie music.

Woohoo!

Man, if you're going to have a weekend off, make it a good one! That pancake thing sounded AWESOME! I can see you like food a little, huh? :) I think I can relate to that.

OK, Quercus, fun time is over for now. So start cracking the whip Monday morning and make this weekend nothing but a delicious, savory afterthought.

Back on the straight and narrow Don. I've got 1,000 of my 2,000 calories left so i should be able to eat what I want for dinner and still come in under. I had yogurt, fruit, and a sandwhich so far today. 3 things and only water and black coffee to drink. I had a tough day in the field. I got rained on again so it was slow going. Tomorrow will be nice weather, but I really need to push to make up some mileage. Good exercise I suppose.

I saw a great egret, thousands of black birds bathing, a herd of 6 deer, a flock of a couple dozen ducks, lots of frogs, a half dozen turtles, and a big gar rolling in the water. I like that part of my job. :)

Edit: I forgot about a kestrel that flew low over my head too.

People question why I like fishing and other outdoor activities so much in a wet place like Oregon... because to me, getting wet is a small price to pay for being amidst the wildlife like that. It sounds like you had a (tough) but great day to me!

GREAT job getting back in the saddle. we have to keep telling ourselves, this lifestyle is NOT about being perfect - it's about doing our best, celebrating our victories and forgiving our sins.

Be careful not to cut your calories too much. The shift might cause your body to go into self preservation mode.

By the way, I'm not at 10% line yet... but you better start pedaling!

Hey your day sounds so nice!!! Didn't you have torrential rain like us? Lucky you!
You saw cute littel duckies :) Awwww

Your food sounds good too. Go Quercus!

Getting rained on and slogging through the mud isn't much fun. Seeing all the critters is fun. The group of deer had a yearling (older than a fawn, but not an adult) with them. He was moving away from us when his head was hidden by some brush. Like a little kid he thought he was hidden because he couldn't see us. We clapped and yelled and he didn't move because he was "hidden". It was cute, but he won't last long if he doesn't learn better.

Glad you enjoyed Austin. The singer has an interesting voice. Also interesting is that she happens to be in Phoenix tonight, didn't see her.

I've been wanting to go to Austin for awhile now - even more so now that MotoGP is racing there! That track looks amazing.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Thanks LJ. Austin is great place to visit.

Today's wildlife:

50-60 pelicans (it might be wet ;))

About 30 great blue herons

6 deer

A rabbit

A few great egrets

Bluebirds, starlings, sparrows, and other songbirds.

I went over on calories yesterday, but I'm physically exhausted and legitimately hungry. Whether I lose weight or not my body is telling me it needs food. I feel like I'm still on a serious deficit. We will see Friday.

It was a crappy day (exhausting and not very productive), but seeing the animals was nice. I'm averaging 4,000 feet a day for the delineation because there are so many wetlands and the survey corridor is wide. At this rate it will take 50 something days to finish this project and I have to work 7 days a week until it's done. The client expects it done in 3 weeks. We didn't tell then that, but I'm subcontracting through a company that's never seen the Sabine River bottom and calculated distances based on having mostly uplands. Did I mention I don't make any extra money working 7 days a week? FML

Well, I should say so. I don't mean to criticize your diet plan, but the above menu seems like an awful lot of calories. Maybe cut back on an egret or two and replace it with a light salad.

Ha well played! 6 deer and 60 pelicans are okay, but a few egrets was too much?

I saw more pelicans and a dozen gadwalls (ducks). I saw a swamp rabbit too. That's about it.

I've been eating more every day this week, but I've also been busting my ass. I hope I remember to weigh in as I have to wake up at 5 in the morning to get an extra long day at work before working all weekend. Waaaaah! Okay I'm done.
