The Awful Truth

LOL hulla hoop is so much fun... but its one of those things thats best left until theres no one around to watch you LOL

I found my scapegoat and they were right in front of me all along! You see, I figured whose fault it is that I am overweight...my HANDS. My hands are responsible for feeding me. They are the ones that grab for the donut, fill the shopping cart with ice cream, mix the icing for the cake, and cover themselves in melted chocolate that requires licking. If it weren't for my hands working against me, I'd be thin. Or maybe not.

.
Naughty naughty hands:rofl: Could be worse though Veronica as I seem to have more trouble with putting my foot in my mouth:biggrinjester:

I just love your sense of humor:smilielol5:

Haha! I wish I had the motivation to work out while watching tv at home... GO you! I watched BL tonight- sat on my bootay the whooolllle time. I rather enjoyed it  lolll. Keep it up :) Maybe pick one show a night to walk to, and every day just up the speed .01 or so...

I fell asleep last night thinking about something my pastor talked about this past Sunday. The topic was resolutions and how many people stop making them as they get older. The reason is said to be that they have failed at them so many times in the past that they do not want to let themselves down again. After all, why make a statement like, 'This year is finally the year that I'm going to lose weight' when 3 months from now you are beating yourself over the head because, not only have you not lost weight, you gained it. The whole process can be very devastating and a lot of people will throw that resolution away for next week, next month, or even next year.

So the topic was delved into a little deeper. What does it mean to make a resolution?

Main Entry: res·o·lu·tion
Pronunciation: \?re-z?-?lü-sh?n\
Function: noun

1 : the act or process of resolving: as a : the act of analyzing a complex notion into simpler ones b : the act of answering : solving

The point was this: when you make a resolution you are saying that you are determined to fix this aspect of your life. Resolve means determination and decision. So what else in your life are you resolved about? Your career? Children? Marriage? Hobby? Whatever it is, find the motivation for those aspects of your life and channel it into weight loss.

I probably sound like I'm preaching to the choir but I really liked the way he explained this. After all, I've had plenty of times when I put off for tomorrow a diet or fitness plan that should have been started today. Right here. Right now. Haven't you?

So I woke up this morning with RESOLVE. I AM determined to beat this weight this year. I will not be deterred by one bad food choice, or a lazy day of no exercise, or even one of those dreaded weigh in days that doesn't give me the number I want to see. This is about change, a change that has been wanted for years now, a change I deserve and desire now more than anything.

I think that is the thing that makes the difference. We've all read before and after posts from people that said, 'If I could do it, anybody can.' They were people like us, people that kept sitting on the couch at night eating ice cream while watching the Biggest Loser. They had tried diets and failed. The had bad weeks and horrible weigh ins but one day, they found their RESOLVE. The decided enough was enough and made the changes necessary in their life. It's like an imaginary light bulb turning on inside my head.

Today is my day. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and I'm ready to find that thin and healthy woman inside me. Oh wait, she's at the gym already! (Damn it!)

Its truly a snowball effect. Once you get started and commit a few back to back weeks to it, it becomes its own motivation. Granted, all the decisions are ultimatly made at the individual level, but whenever youre trending to apathy try and spark this motivation you are feeling right now.

Heres to a life-changing 2010!

Cheers! (Drinking imaginary champagne):cheers2:

I haven't done much in the way of exercise yet today. Did a quick 1 mile walk at lunchtime and lifted some weights this morning. Gotta get the true sweaty cardio in tonight yet!

Food hasn't been great but not bad either. Just stuck with what is left in the fridge until I grocery shop. My mother in law just sent me a box of my favorite mustard for Christmas too! I know, I know...mustard? for Christmas? This stuff is awesome! It is a Chardonnay Jalapeno Mustard from one of the wineries by her house in Napa Valley...and runs about $6 for a jar! And I LOVE it! It is the perfect blend of vinegary mustard with spicy jalapenoness...YUM! I eat this stuff with everything.

I'm not sure how many calories is in it but it is a mustard so I would guess fairly low. Plus, the jalapeno part has quite the kick so you cannot eat a lot of it on any one thing. Hmmm..getting hungry for some as I type. Perhaps a quick mustard snack break and then cardio....

One of my favorite quotes is by Ed Foreman, motivational speaker extraordinaire. He said," We change when the pain to change is less than the pain to remain as we are." And with diet and exercise, it is so true. When we finally realize that the pain of bending over or kneeling down or taking medications or looking in the mirror is more painful than the actual workout or diet, we change.

Hello Veronica! Your first post in your thread was so genuine and real! I can't believe how much that sounds like me (minus the fall down the stairs)!! It's like you wrote the thoughts directly from my head, and I do enjoy the fact that you are an articulate writer.

I hope this is your year to bring it all back!! I also would love to shop somewhere other than Torrid or the plus sizes over at Ross, you know the rare finds.

My spanks have turned on me!!! I feel like a stuffed sausage. Time for change!!

MissJellyBelly - It's always good to know that someone else is feeling the same way I am.

It's been one of those weekends. I spent all day yesterday doing projects around the house and never made it into the gym to work out. Sucks but I know I got a good workout from it as I was completely sore this morning from head to toe. It's amazing how a change of pace can make all the difference.

As far as today goes, I was docile. Went to church, had group of friends over for brunch, read on the couch, took nap, made dinner, and now I'm here. Decided Sundays would be my day of rest since it is the only day I get with my husband. And even though I didn't eat a lot today, I ate a lot of carbs. (French Toast and Pizza) I swear I would die of starvation on the Atkins Diet!

On the plus side, nothing fried, no soda, no candy. I stayed far away from all the "extras" that kill my diet on my off days. French fries and peanut butter cups be damned!

Great job staying away from the fried, soda, and candy!! I know the feeling girl!!

Hope this week rocks for you and you see some loss on the scale!

Having trouble getting started this morning. Woke up at 8:30, took care of some chores, then went back to bed until noon. Was just so tired that I was having trouble focusing so I thought more sleep would help. It did. So where should this day take me?

I want to get in a long workout today, especially since yesterday was my day off. I'm thinking about breaking it down into 3 - 2 hour workouts...

Workout 1 from 1PM - 3PM: 1 Hour Upper Body Weights & 1 Hour on Elliptical
Workout 2 from 5PM - 7PM: 1 Hour Yoga & 1 Hour Step Aerobics
Workout 3 from 9PM - 11PM: 1 Hour Lower Body Weights & 1 Hour Bike

I'm kind of liking the 2 hours on, 2 hours off to eat and rest method. Let's see how it works out.

Blimey, that's a good exercise day!! :D Nice one! x

I have a large wardrobe, so much so that it takes up the entire guest bedroom. Aisles of vintage threads, thrift store treasures, and dresses I have designed and made with my own bare hands. The problem is that all these clothes are a size 6 from before my accident so I cannot even fit a leg into the pants. My agreement is to hit certain weight loss goals by certain dates or else I lose 10 items of clothing for every pound I am off.

I don't have your talent, so I just bought all my size 6 clothes, over the past 3 years, with every intention of wearing them once I got "serious" and lost the weight. I have a walk-in closet of J Crew, Banana Republic, Armani Exchange, MaxAzria, Mango, MillyNY and a lovely assortment from Bloomingdales and Nordstrom waiting for me. Instead of thinking, "How sick is that"? ;) I choose to commend myself for spreading the cost of a new wardrobe over 3 years, rather than incurring a significant expense once I lose the weight.

I believe doves will fall from the sky and dolphins will wash ashore if you don't meet your mini-goals, and allow your husband to toss even 1 item of clothing designed by thine own hand. (Gasp!) So, I am certain you can reach your goals.

I spend quality time in my closet when I need inspiration. I hope the triple threat work out went well. If you even did a 3rd of that it's downright heroic!

BellyOff - Awwww....someone else who appreciates a good wardrobe as inspiration. Great choice on labels and cost analysis over the years. I'm the same way. I have tons of pieces I used to wear that I am determined to get back into as well as all new items are purchased in my original size so that I'll have more to choose from when I get there. As far as the personal designs, they are precious to me so I doubt he will toss those first if at all. And I too, spend quality time in my closet for inspiration. I've even started a new year file as motivation for next year. I'm putting together outfits complete with accessories and taking a picture of them on the mannequin. Each day, I choose whatever outfit I'm going to wear next year on that exact same day. Kind of corny but it definitely keep me motivated.

So I never made it to my last workout tonight as evidence of the time stamp of this post. We are having an abnormal cold spell here on the southern coast and some pipes burst in my backyard this afternoon. Seeing as I am without water to the house for at least the evening, I decided it best to not get much more sweaty and stinky until I'm sure I'll be able to get a shower.

All in all, a good day. Good workouts, good amount of calories, but again way too many carbs. Damn breads and pastas get me every time! Tomorrow I vow to eat more fruits and veggies!

Thats too bad about the water pipes :O Hopefully those can be repaired quickly, I cant imagine being without running water especially in the winter!

Also, im totally with you about bread. I love it, but it certainly doesnt love me back. For the past 2 weeks, ive really just been trying to get my carbs from steamed veggies at dinner. Just throwing around an idea, seeing as its worked pretty well for me.

You're not alone there, (very guilty of overdoing the carbs!) I think carbs have been the downfall of many, many great people. :D

Keep up the good workouts though :) x
