taking out exercises while lower back heals?

I'm having trouble with my lower back ever since I injured it over a period of time with romanian deadlifts. according to my physio-therapist I should stop doing any kind of stretches or exercises that involve bending down or curving the spine forward until my core muscles are strong again and my lower back can support things. (which would rule out any kind of deadlift or crunches).

I haven't done any deadlifts since the injury, but I've been doing gentle back extensions with the gym equipment and all the usual ab work.
I'm going to cut out the back extensions but carry on with most of my ab work, so what I'm wondering is will this cause an unhealthy imbalance between abs and lower back?
Should I neglect both of them for now or just stop lower back movements?
