Supplementing weight training with pushups/situps?

I weight train approx. every other day, alternating between a biceps/back/legs workout and a chest/shoulders/triceps workout.

I would like to start adding daily pushups and situps in the mornings or at night before I go to bed, but is this a bad idea? Will the pushups mess with muscle regeneration since I'm already doing a chest workout 2-3 times per week? What's the best way to incorporate pushups during my non-workout time, or is it best that I avoid them altogether?

Thanks

It seems my replies always start out with "it depends".

The sit-ups are no problem. You should be able to work your abs almost every day with little to worry about. I will suggest you do crunches instead though to better target your abs.

Push-ups are a little trickier. If you do many reps in one set (20+) then this becomes an endurance exercise and incorporating them into you non-chest days should be fine. However, if you can only do between 1 and 15 reps per set, then your push ups are a strength-building exercise and you should probably just incorporate them into your normal chest workout days.

I hope this helps

Abs are just like any other muscle They need rest so they shouldn't be worked everyday.

I disagree.

I agree with this. Abs are a rather large muscle group that tend to recover much faster than say your biceps. I do a push pull routine and even though abs are part of my pull i usually end up doing them on my push day too because they're ready to go.
