Super Size Me

has anyone seen this movie/documentary? it's been running on msnbc and i've yet to see it in its entirety, but it's rather interesting. i don't dig the fact that the guys eating fast food on purpose and doing major damage, but i love the other info in the film that i've seen thus far.

like a school that chose to go with a healthier vendor, etc. and how most schools and districts won't do it b/c they feel that it's not economical, though it costs just about the same..interesting, eh?
they were mainly focusing a school where the "bad" kids are sent; it's not a private school, but public school for troubled kids....anyway, they switched to the healty food vendors, got rid of soda, etc and they've noticed drastic changes in the kids..go figure.
i just think it's interesting.

I've seen it. It's definitely worth seeing. I really wish he would have eaten fast food once or twice a day, though, so people could see that even smaller amounts of fast food are bad for you. It's too easy to look at him and say, "Well, I don't eat THAT much fast food, I'm sure I'm fine."

it's a great film.
there are a lot of people out there who do eat fast food for every meal (or grocery store bought junk).

I don't remember where i saw this conversation but it really made me think for a moment - I personally dont like fast food - yesterday was the first fast food burger I've had in years - and it really wasn't that good -just the place i went to was fun.

There's sometimes a financial aspect to those kind of diets.

I have heard from some people that a fast food diet can be cheaper in the long run than eating healthy - Trying to do the math on that - I suppose you can get a burger, fries, and large drink at McDonalds cheaper than you could have a grilled chicken breast w/ vegetables at home, plus the time savings.

There are two grocery stores in my area, and it's definitely cheaper to eat processed foods than itis to eat healthier... Which is really kind of sad... Yes, you can find healthy choices inexpensively but it takes some work

I don't find it tastes any good though. I avoid Mcdonald's whenever possible. I can't stand fast food, except for KFC. I don't think any of the meat tastes real.

wow! thanks for all of the feedback everyone! yeah - i totally love fries and stuff, but i take the extra time now and back some fries in the oven, and make turkey burgers. it's worth it. i can still have what i want and now i'm gonna live longer. i can spend the couple extra dollars to know that i'm adding a few years to life...whoo hooo!!!!

I really did like that movie. It showed an extreme that I needed to see.

Fast food does seem cheaper to me, and I have also noticed that poorer people are more obese because of it, at least that is the way it seems.

Now that I have been eating healthier I dont' like fast food so much. Sometimes I'll see commercial for something on TV, and I let my self buy it just to remind myself how much that food sucks. :)

i can see how it might be cheaper in the beginning, to buy fast food - that is, but really, if you're willing to work for it..no matter how much money you have or don't have...plant things..freeze them..buy things when you see them on sale. i have two small children, their father & myself...we're not rich, not poor, but we're like lower middle class...i guess...if that's even a level, but we manage to keep it healthy..there are ways. you've gotta be willing to put in the work! :)

Yeah that documentary honestly caused me to give up eating fast food completely. I never ate it a lot so I didn't end up losing oodles of weight over it, but I'm definitely a healthier person since I've given it up. Over time I've completely lost any desire for it as well. It just doesn't seem very appetizing anymore.

hey ellen,
i'm actually leaning that way myself, b/c i haven't even seen the whole thing yet, but hearing the parts where his doctor was explaining what's happening to him and hearing him talk about how tired he was..etc.
so i'm thinking...if i seriously have the urge for a burger..take the time and grill a turkey burger...i like them a lot and it's a little better...so yeah...i'm anxious to see the entire movie.

Hey gang,

Great movie! It is a bit on the sensationalized side, but it gets the idea across and has had an impact on the way we all may view fast food.

It was a film that inspired me to create a different type of documentary, one that inspired people to change, rather than scared them into change...if you have a chance, visit us at

We've been filming for about 18 months now...any and all feedback is welcome!

Fast Food Nation was also an interesting film, although not a documentary, it feels pretty realistic.

I have the DVD. I actually stopped going to the fastfood joints, other than Subways, way before Super Size Me came out. After I saw the documentary, I was relieved.

wow...good job! i'm trying to stay away from fast food as well. it's a little harder to get the fam to come along...(well, not the kids, but my boo). anyway...it's workin' out thus far.

It's funny , I don't see eating in fast food places as cheaper. I can buy a whole chicken for about 5 bucks and that lasts me for 4 meals. Along with water and Frozen vegetables that can cost me about 3.75 a meal . Everytime I walk into a BurgerKing or a Mcdonalds , I drop 7 bucks. They call it Fast food because you don't have to prepare it . I've resigned myself to treating Fast food like an alcohol addiction and have gone cold turkey.

Also whenever I start dieting and cut out the Fast food , I drop a quick 5 pounds because of it.

Ya its difficult lol, its always the young that can eat that stuff and burn off those calories because theyre so energetic. But once it becomes a habit, then thats where it can get dangerous. If you actively workout and are in good shape, once or twice, maybe a week isn't bad, but of course you need to balance the rest of your meals throughout that day to accomodate all that fat, sodium and sugar you intake.

I liked it. My only problem with the movie was that Morgan Sperlock did not eat fast food before doing this. So of course it was a total shock to his system. I would have liked to see it with another perosn who did eat fast food on a regular/semi-regular basis to see if the results were the same.
Also he has a show on FX that's pretty cool. Have you seen it? It's called 30Days.
