Super Size Me

By the way, there have been others who have taken the "McDonald Challenge" (as it's come to be coined) who have lost weight by eating McDonalds 3-4 meals a day every day for a month.

I should have known you would have beat me to this response. Spurlock ate over 5000 calories per day, of course he was going to gain weight. If he ate less food, he could have easily maintained or even lost.

Im not dissing the movie, I like it. If you like this movie, you should check out the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser.

i do have a friend who loves junk food and fast-food and yet she's very skinny! she can just live on fast-food and still be so skinny.. i guess she's just blessed with high metabolism eh?

Thats probably all she eats, yet doesnt eat alot of it.

The problem with me is that when I go to McDonalds and other fast food places (especially late after drinking) I get a whole meal along with 1-2 other things like nuggets or even ANOTHER burger.

I just can't eat in moderation

A thousand calories in one shake?
HOLY CRAP. Thats 2/3a my calories for the day
I think it is perfectly fair to say that people who are tyring to lose weight shoudl avoid fast food all together. Especially if they are already having trouble.

A life changing movie for sure....

The image I will take from that movie is the GIGANTIC jar of sugar he shows at the end, which represents the total sugar he took in during that month of McD's..... That alone will likely keep me out of those doors forever. Whereas I agree with many of you that there is no need for an all or nothing attitude, in some situations I don't think it hurts either. I will never "suffer" because I refuse to go into a fast food joint.......

Unless I trip on the carpet or steps as I am walking away of course....

Well, between me and my boyfriend, we earn about $24,000 per year and about $380 per week and together pay about $180 per week on bills, not including the Fitness First membership of about $45 per week. We eat healthy about half the days but it does chip in to all the other things we could do - like buy bicycles as well as deal with dental problems and the like.

Sometimes, it's hard not to look at $2.50 minimum hot chips in bread with gravy to feed the two of us -- or to look at $3.50 for a pack of forty dim sims (two-three dinners for the two of us) that can be deep fried at home and eaten with bread and tomato sauce -- and just think about all the things we could do if we didn't spend so much on food. On the healthy side, there's camping goods, bicycles, snorkelling and holidays (we can't road trip because we can't afford a car - even bus trips to family need to be budgetted in). On the unhealthy side, there's computer upgrades, videogames, alcohol and cinema tickets.

Of course, all that flies out the window for people who use fast meals meals. Two large meals that could barely feed the two of us for one meal costs around $18. Most cookable meals cost around only $5-$6 more (though take far longer to prepare) and give yummy left overs for the following day - thus supplying two meals).

I would say a history of low fiber and a high fat/sugar diet is why most of us are in this forum to begin with. Low fiber and high fat/sugar is basically what's on the menu at fast food restraunts. Add in your daily stress with that diet and you probably are for one going to be overweight and have some type of colon problem in your future. The Industrial Western countries with this type of diet have plenty of colon disorders that really weren't around to this extent just 60 or so years ago.

Not to defend the fast food restraunt industry but they are delivering what the consumer wants from them ....fast food. You get in and out in no time flat gobbling down your food as you race off to your next destination.

If you do go into a McDonalds get a salad with grilled chicken and low-fat dressing. That's about the only choice I would make.

A high fiber diet is not only good for weight controll but it is vital for your digestive sysytem. Making smart choices in the food we eat can really elimante or control some nasty disorders we may face .

I agree 100%! I think there is very little space in a healthy diet for any of that crap & we are just kidding ourselves to think it won't impact our health in the long run.

Has anyone seen the nutrition info now on the boxes? I got a Big Mac the other day and the nutrition info facts were on the bottom of the box. The fries were blank though.

I happened to pick the Book version at the Library about a year ago- I read it and have not eaten fast food since. My 10 year old daughter read only a few chapters and even she wont eat fast food anymore. Education is POWER!

This is a very good documentary. But, people also need to realize that he when from a all Vegan Diet to McDiet and that made it even worse for him (if thats possible). I think I'll watch it again.

I don't eat fastfood like McDonalds and Burger king. Although I want to try out that grilled chicken salad.

For me, my previous overuse of fast food wasn't because it was cheaper, necessarily...it was just easier than cooking when I was single. It was "too hard" for me to cook for one person. If I made a homemade pizza, I'd have entirely too much and would eat too much. To me, it was just easier and less wasteful, as far as food was concerned, to go to the fast food place where I could get one burger, one order of fries and one drink and not have my fridge and freezer clogged up with stuff.

Lazy, huh?

I haven't seen the movie... I heard he only walked a certain amount of steps a day... is that true?

Anyway... I love Mcdonald's and eat it fairly often. I'm a real mover though... and when my size 4's get snug I start watching my calorie intake.

I believe there are no bad foods.. just portions that are too large and people who don't move around enough.

If I recall correctly he used a pedometer to prevent himself from exercising too much. He would have McDonalds delivered when he got to close to the limit.

After I graduated, I cut way back on my fast food intake but this movie pushed me to give it up completely. The biggest eye opener for me was when they showed the progression of the fries/drink sizes. How a large in the 1970s is considered a small today.

I haven't eaten at McDonald's since watching the movie. That place is disgusting...the scene where he was yakking up his lunch in the parking lot kind of killed it for me. I do still occasionally indulge in fast food, but not at McDonald's. It doesn't even taste good; tastes like chemicals. :ack2:

I'm going to play Devil's advocate. Notice the name of the movie is "SuperSize" me, not "Dollarmenu" me. Eating the amount of calories in a SS meal twice a day is disgusting.

However, everything is OK in moderation. While I've cut my daily calories in half of what I used to eat I'd be lying to myself if I said I'd NEVER hit a fast food place again, or drink a beer, or eat ice cream.

I got out of Wendy's yesterday for less than 400 calories and $4. Mandrin Oranges, Jr Hamburger and a big ass ice unsweet tea.
