Sunshyne's Progress (with pics!)

Lucy, it's good to know that you can relate. What can't people process about our healthy lifestyle changes??

-----

So I was a little stressed/depressed earlier....so instead of binging, I did some yoga. I think this might be a hit!! I feel flexible and and relaxed. Feeling better. Hopefully I can make this yoga thing a daily habit before bed/in the morning.

I know how you feel too! Trying to live a healthy lifestyle on your own is hard and you need support from the people around you. Temptations are hard as is never mind when they are right in front of your face or in your home! I also have a hard time getting together with friends because of the temptations - there are just so many more bad options in food than good ones and none of my friends follow the same lifestyle so they just look at me as the outcast. It is so hard and so easy to give up but then where will you be? My advice is just try your best and do well where you can. My friend Sarah once said if you can be your best 98% of the time your doing great! Don't sweat the 2%! Next time your mom throws something in your face throw it in the trash while she is still there and wait for her reaction. If she says "what are you doing!" tell her again you don't want the temptations around and your trying your best! Maybe that will send her a message and she will smarten up. If you are forced to go to Burger King with your friends just order something small and say you just ate and your not too hungry. Or get the kids meal because it will be less calories or treat yourself to what you really want and make sure to get an extra work out in that day.
Have a good weekend and don't give up! Keep your eye on the prize!

Thanks sooo much Lisa!!!! all of that is so true. Yes temptation is hard but you know what I realized? It's in me. It's in us. If we really want the goal and the prize of reaching our goal weight, we have to have self control! It's really not HARD to avoid garbage food especially when it's at home, I guess I just have to suck it up

So this morning I didn't get a chance to weigh in...tomorrow for sure. Overall today is a much better day than yesterday :)

I haven`t really counted calories today. I think it`s good though in a way because it allows me to focus on eating whats good for my body and enough to make me full, rather than the numbers.

Went grocery shopping with mom...got bottled water, royal gala apples?, romaine lettuce, boneless skinless chicken breast, egg noogles and vanilla soy milk? yay for healther things

I'm sorry your interview went badly - but clearly she was staring at your chest because she was mad with jealousy. Not going to lie, it was the first thing I noticed about your photo.
My boyfriend eats anything and everything and it makes me sooo mad sometimes. But then I've noticed that whereas I can't put down a bag of chips until it's done... he'll just stop. Or he'll forget about a chocolate bar for a couple weeks... forget about a chocolate bar!?!?! I am definitely an emotional eater so I am really trying to have a better relationship with food.

Thanks for stopping by. Yeah I'm not oblivious to my body, but that was so inappropriate for her to look at me like that....honestly after that I just was not feeling the interview. I'm also an emotional eater too, I`m still trying to learn when I`m physically hungry rather than "emotionally hungry".

Today I weighed in at the same weight as last time. I'm so close to being in the 140's I can taste it :biggrinjester:

So I told my mom about the bad interview, and she brings me a bag of chips and says "comfort food".

LMAO I rejected it but haha I thought that was funny. That shows how much she shoves junk in my face, I'm not exaggerating. But 9 times out of 10 I reject her offers of fattening me up so it's all good

Aw that was one thing that was good about living at home- my parents are absolute total nutty health freaks. Everyone in my family is tiny too (I used to be once!!) Like my mum is in her mid 50s and she's still an Aus size 8 (think that's American size 4?) And my older sister is an Aus 4!!!! Which makes her an American 0!!!! Not that I would EVER want to be that small, I love having curves and muscle and being fit.
But yea my mum is a vegetarian, and is very creative with her veges which I've grown up with and I think the only thing I still don't like is a brussel sprout lol. I think growing up without junk food was good in some ways, but then as soon as I got my own job I started buying it for myself... then it started to go downhill from there lol. Specially when I started going out with my now husband, we were getting KFC like 3 times a week!! No wonder I got so big back then!!!!
I think there's always going to be someone in your life offering you bad food and treats because they love you and think it'll make you feel better... good on you for saying no to those chips!!!

Wow you come from a really healthy family huh. that's really cool that your mom is so tiny. You have good genes :)

----

Intake again, a lot of random snacking.
- 1 packet plain oatmeal, sugar, evaporated milk (250)
- apple (80), 2 cups green tea (20)
- strawberry Activia yogurt with granola (130)
- vanilla Soy Milk (2 cups...280)
- M&M's (200)
- corn chips (440)
Total calories: 1400

Thoughts
My goals for next week:
1) don't buy food, only eat stuff from home
2) No eating past 8:30pm

Thats it...I think I can lose a lot next week if I don't do those things. Today's eating was good @ the beginning, then ended kinda bad. Oh well, I'm just glad I'm in my calorie range for today. And I'm also glad I didn't binge on anything...yay? lol

Still getting over my cold. I'm tired of grossing my family out with my daily nose-blowing in the morning. Overall just feeling really sluggish. It's 3pm have barely gotten anything accomplished :( Okay off to read my finance books now to try to make sense of mergers and acquisitions :drooling:

So sorry you're still feeling sick It takes ages to clear. I love your menu plans and they sound so appetising while mine sound like prison food but prison food that is making me lose so I'm not complaining!

:) Thanks for stopping by my diary and encouraging me. I was off laptop and only had iphone for a few weeks so it was so hard to post responses but I was reading along!

Good luck next week!

Interesting Green Tea Article

So as you might know I'm a green tea fanatic. I love drinking green tea :beating: So as I'm drinking my second cup for today, I decided to to some research, and came across this article on the benefits AND disadvantages of green tea for weight loss. The website is from a Colon health website, so it's probably unbiased:

Green tea’s weight loss effects have been causing more and more people to start sipping the ancient Japanese brew. But, just how does green tea help you lose weight? And does it really work or is it all just hype? This article gives you the real facts about drinking green tea to lose weight.
Experts vary, but the general consensus seems to be that 3 – 5 cups of green tea per day is optimal. Doing this can help you burn an extra 70 calories per day which amounts to 7 pounds per year. Pretty good for not exercising or cutting calories, right?

Advantages of Drinking Green Tea for Weight Loss:

1) Green tea revs up your metabolism
A study reported on in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in energy expenditure (a metabolism 'boost').The researchers also concluded that that over a 24-hour period, green tea extract increases the metabolic rate by 4%. These effects are probably due to the high concentrations of catechin polyphenols found in green tea. These work to help intensify levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis (the rate at which your body burns calories).

2) Green tea inhibits fat absorption and helps glucose regulation
Experts tell us that the catechins in green tea help to inhibit the movement of glucose into fat cells. Green tea may also act as al glucose regulator. It helps to slow the rise in blood sugar after a meal. This prevents high insulin spikes (lots of insulin promotes fat storage) and the subsequent fat storage.

3) Green tea may help reduce appetite
Scientists at the University of Chicago found that green tea caused rats to lose up to 21 percent of their body weight. Rats injected with a green tea extract lost their appetites and consumed up to 60 percent less food after seven days of daily injections. This may have something to do with the blood sugar regulating effects of green tea.

4) Green tea can help you save calories on your morning brew.
We are a nation hooked on our java. Be it the regular double-cream, double-sugar standard or that mocha, dappa, frappucinno, the calories we ingest just to get our morning caffeine is wreaking havoc on our waistlines. If you want to save mega-calories in the morning but still get your caffeine fix, try substituting green tea for coffee. Or have a green tea in the afternoon instead of that 700 calorie mocha-chillate dream. You’ll definitely notice the difference in your waistline after a few weeks.

So there are 4 ways that green tea can help you with weight loss... But, how much do you actually have to drink to get these amazing metabolism boosting effects? However, 3 – 5 cups can be a lot for some people, so you might also want to consider green tea extract, green tea pills or a green tea patch.

Disadvantages of Drinking Green Tea For Weight Loss:

1. Green tea is not a magic bullet
While some people will tell you that green tea is the be-all-end-all for weight loss success, I think the keyword here is balance. You’re not going to eat 5000 calories a day, drink a cup of green tea and make it all go away – it just isn’t going to happen. A healthy diet and increased exercise will go a long way in helping you lose weight and keep it off.

2. Be cautious of the caffeine if you have health problems
For some people that have heart troubles, high blood pressure or stimulant sensitivities, the caffeine in green tea may not be the best idea. If you’re worried about the caffeine from green tea, try taking green tea extract. Most green tea extract is made from decaffeinated green tea so you can still get the weight loss benefits without the caffeine. If you think the caffeine may be a problem, make sure to consult your doctor before starting green tea for weight loss. Also make sure to consult your doctor before starting green tea if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Bottom Line: Green tea helps you with weight loss by boosting your metabolic rate, regulating your blood sugar, suppressing your appetite and giving you something else besides that high calorie, high sugar coffee beverage to drink in the morning.

While it's not the magic bullet, it can definitely give you a boost in weight loss and in your overall health!

No problem! Lol @ prison food. I'm early in my journey so I'm just trying to make small changes with food I will actually eat...I suppose once I actually start losing weight and inches, I'll have to eat prison food to keep losing :) Thanks for stopping by and good luck next week too

So as you might know I'm a green tea fanatic. I love drinking green tea :beating:

No prob :) even though a journal is supposed to be for yourself, I know it feels really good when people comment.

And yes I gotta keep it normal lol! I eat fruits and veggies and other healthy stuff but I keep it realistic - I still have my pizza once in a while. I think the key thing is portion control and making simple lifestyle changes

Drinking coffee also ups your metabolism - but only a little so adding cream or sugar will ruin the effect. I bet the caffeine in green tea has a lot to do with those 70 calories/day.

Also, I was reading about the wonders of eating yogurt daily - there's an article in "Self". When groups are followed - eating the same calories per day - the group eating yogurt loses more weight, gains more muscle, has increased immune function, has decreased risk of heart disease... lots of wonderful things.

Wow good stuff!! Yogurt is just great...I eat the Activia kind, it says it has probiotics and stuff (which could just be a marketing gimmick), but since I've been eating it, it actually helps with digestion and going to the bathroom n stuff...plus it's just a great snack overall

and coffee is good too, but I always have to add cream and sugar and stuff

I think u r doing pretty good with the foods and everything.

p.s: u didn't look bad at all like that either ;)
Aww thanks :)

Still 151 today. I'm going to the gym tonight, it's been too long. Working out at home is cool but I think I'm more effective @ the gym

I agree I get a better workout in at the gym too! I think you had a good weekend by the looks of things!! Glad you are feeling better about going forward with your journey and telling your mom to get lost when she brings you bad (comfort food) food! We will get there - one day at a time!!
