Success Diary

I am starting this diary to help push to achieve my goal weight. I hope this helps because I have been so close for so long now and I can't seem to make it.
I started eating healthy and exercising in Feb. My start weight was 176 pounds and I am 5'2''. I have been doing at least an hour of cardio everyday and just started lifting weights. Now my weight is 126 pounds and I would like to get to 120 pounds. More importantly I would like to look "fit".
This is not a diet for me, I have really changed my life. Getting healthy has been a life saver for me. I suffer with severe depression and was on a lot of medicines, most causing weight gain, to manage my disorder. I got so tired of drugging myself all the time and I decided to change my life. I started exercising everytime I felt depressed which was a lot and changed my diet. It was not long before I was able to get off almost all my medicine and I was seeing the numbers on the scale drop!
The weightloss journey I have been on has tought me so much about myself and I have become a better person. I really have never been happier.
I would like to complete my journey by reaching my goal weight. Well I guess thats where the journey begins!
Any suggestions I can get to make it a little farther would be greatly appreciated!

I am so happy, I have been able to control my late night eating! For two nights now I have not been up all night eating.
I went to the gym today and worked out with weights for 1/2 hour and did an hour cardio class. Tomorrow a trainer is going to see how fast I can run a mile. I am a little nervous about that because I don't know if I can push myself to run very fast. So wish me the best of luck.
I have been doing really good during the day with my diet and eating healthy.
I have not lost any weight lately but I am still hopeful.

I went to the gym and ran a mile. I did it in 11 minutes and 30 seconds, which is pretty slow but I made it! I am going back on Sunday to see if I can beat my time. I am going to practicing running as much as I can so I can get better. I would like to run in a marathon in Jan. I probably wont be able to do the whole thing but maybe a half marathon would be realistic.
I am still struggling with my late night eating, I can seem to control myself at night! Any suggestions would be great. I also can't seem to get my stomach to look thin, I really hate it! I do ab exercises all the time and a variety of them but I seem to be getting no where. I am getting really discouraged.

Well done on your run :)

you will see your abs when you have lost enough fat and not before no matter how many ab exercises you do. By increasing resistance on your ab exercises they will continue to get stronger but if you continue to just do heaps you will have great muscular endurance.

You need a balance in your weight training, if you train abs you also need to train your lower back etc.

Thanks for the suggestions on the ab and lower back exercises. I do dead lifts, I think that's what they are called. Sorry, I am really new to weight lifting. I hope that is balaced.
I went for a slow 2 1/2 mile run today and it went well. I am hoping to increase my speed. Today it took me 33 minutes. I plan to run again on Friday and hopefully get a better time. I was hoping to do more cardio today but I am a little tired.

Your doing great, deadlifts are a great exercise :)

don't try to do to much to soon, your body needs time to rest and adapt, It is a good idea to include planed rest days.

Thank you for the support, I greatly appreciated it.
Today I hit a new low! Now I am 125 pounds and I am so excited!
I am going to the gym today to see if I can beat my time on the treadmill, I know I can do it!
I found out today that I have to have surgery and I am worried that will effect my exercise routine. I know I will have to take it easy but that will be very challenging for me.
I am also going to lift weights today and doing a cardio class.
I wonder if weight lifting 3 times a week is enough or too much?

So I beat my time on the treadmill by 1 second, but I beat it! I am actually proud of myself. As long as I continue to improve I will be so happy.
I did a complete body workout with weights and went to a weight lifting class and it was a great workout!
It seems like everytime I workout I learn new things about myself and that makes me feel awesome! I dont know if that happens to anyone else. Today I started thinking about how far I have come and how most of the time I don't give myself credit for my accomplishments. It was not very long ago that I was a depressed chain smoker who ate loads of junk food. I could even do one jumping jack. Now I would say I am in pretty good shape and not to mention smoke free since Feb. So anyway my goal now is I am to try to be a little nicer to myself.

HI,

Ya your doing in a great job,the fat people can be occurs in some problems.and daily doing a exercise that can be reduce the weight...

Thank you..

I am going to try to work on my diet. I don't think I am eating enough. I am so afraid of gaining weight that I skimp on the calories. I don't starve myself but I know I need more to really be healthy.
I wonder if protien shakes are good? I hear so many things that I don't know what is right for being healthy and building muscle.
I think I am going to put off my surgery because I really don't want to give up exercise for a month.
Today I am going on a 2 1/2 mile run again and hopefully my time will improve.
Oh and I am at a new low! I am 124 pounds! I have not seen a number like that in years. I can't believe I have lost 51 pounds! Now the journey begin and I have to keep the weight off and get big muscles ha ha.

Wow... you have come soo far! 51 pounds is a LOT to lose! Congratulations! And nice timing for your mile run - I bet you could run it even faster outside or on an indoor track. I always end up running faster outside (even though I feel like I'm going so slow!) than on the treadmill. It's hard to see exactly how fast you can run it when the treadmill only lets you run at a fixed speed. Anyway, you're doing great and I have to say that is truely amazing that you could replace moments of depression with the opportunity to work out. What a positive spin :D And I'm happy to see that it has worked out for you! Keep it goin' :)

Protein shakes are good only of you don't get enough protein in your diet normally, otherwise they are just another source of extra calories.

You have achieved a lot in bot weight loss and dealing with other life issues, well done !!

Hey Kristie:waving:, just read through your journal and all I can say is, WOW!!! 51lbs, quite smoking, come back from depression... you ROCK :coolgleamA:

I see we have some similar goals with the cals and weight training. One thing you can try is setting up an appointment with a trainer at your gym. They can set up a routine for you and make sure your doing the exercies properly (so important).

Awesome job thought. Keep it up!!! :hurray:

Heyyy!! You are almost the same size as me!!

Congratulations on your running! It's so motivating when you can see yourself improving, even if it's only by one second at a time!!

I'd love to run a half marathon, too! It seems so unrealistic for me, and I don't know why!

That's so amazing that you've lost so much weight! Keep it up! You'll lose those last 6 pesky pounds!

Wow, thank you to everyone for your support! It means the world to me and I really appreciate it.
So I went for my 2 1/2 mile run today and I did it in 27 minutes, which is 6 minute faster than before and I am so excited I am improving!
I have been so scared to run, I don't know why but I was. Maybe in 2011 when the Rock N Roll marathon happens again I will be ready. I would love to work toward that.
Today I did increase my calories so I will have to see how it effects the scale? I made turkey chili for tomorrow and it is so good and healthy.
Tomorrow I am going to the gym before work and doing a step class, workout with weights and do my mile on the treadmill.
Goal for this weekend is to not eat out. When I stay home I eat healthy.

Thank you so much! We should help eachother not eat out this weekend. If it wasn't for reading my diary and having more support I wouldn't have gone for that run. I am so glad it did. I couldn't do it without so much support.

So last night I made pizza with 100% whole grain crust and everything low fat, lots of veggies and ground turkey. It was really good, so good in fact that I ate 5 slices! I am so mad at myself! I do so good and then when I am so close to my goal weight I have a binge and kill it! So this morning I am going to the gym and working my butt off.
My right knee has been giving me problems so I don't know if I will run today but I am doing my step class and weight lifting for sure. Then off to work.

I have had a pretty good weekend. I did really good with not eating out.
I have also done better with increasing my calories.
I didn't workout today but I am going to hit it hard tomorrow. I am trying to increase the amount of weight I am lifting to help build muscle. I am really starting to focus on doing the 1/2 marathon in a year, which would be huge for me.
I am doing 2 sets of 15 reps when I lift weights and I don't know if that's enough. I had a trainer at the gym tell me that was enough but it just doesn't seem like enough. I would really like it to be more challenging for me but I don't want to do anything wrong.
My knee is still hurting a little but it is getting better. I am resting it today in hopes that I can work it tomorrow. We will see.

with sets of 15 your working in the endurance range, if you drop your reps down to the 8-10 range you will be in the range used for building lean muscle and below 8 reps building maximum strength but you will need to increase your weights to match. however your not going to build muscle size without eating enough calories while your still cutting calories for weight loss the most you will be doing is maintaining existing muscle but you can still build strength.

RICE your knee and I hope it feels better soon, if not get it looked at.
