Stuck at mt current weight HELP!!

Hey guys great forum here I have a question.

Ok so I am 5 ft 9 inches tall and 34 years old. I was at 226 pounds a few months back and starteed dieting. I am now down to 187 pounds but I want to get to my weight at the age of 24 which was roughly 150 pounds.

So I lost a lot of weight just dieting by eating 1500 calories per day and hardly any fat. Now I have started exercising.

I have a Schwinn upright bike and I have been riding it for a week interval training. I do 2 minutes of warmup followed by 1 minute of going hardcore at level 7 and then 1 minute of going easy at level 3. I am getting my heartrate up to about 150 and I am able to ride for 23 minutes now. I also do 400 crunches and 100 pushups every day as well.

The problem is that I am now stuck at 187-188 pounds for like 10 days now and cant seem to peel off any more pounds. Should I decrease my calorie intake to around 1000 per day or do more exercise? Or just keep doing what im doing and eventually the pounds will come off.

Please help its very frustrating to be stuck at this weight when I am trying so hard.

Extreme low fat diets are not good - very unhealthy. That's an idea from the eighties that is still plaguing us. Eat a good amount of omega-3 fats and even some saturated fats won't kill you. That's not why you are not losing weight though.

A plateau lasting 10 days is hardly a plateau at all and could be accounted for by normal variations in water weight and so forth. When you get up to about 5 weeks, you can start to be concerned. These things just happen, but don't worry, the laws of physics will prevail as long as you are in a calorie deficit.

Nope, what Harold said is true. This is just a plateau, very common and very normal. A lot of people seem to hit them right around 30-40 pounds lost, from what I've seen actually. You could start to lose again any day or it might be a few weeks.

One thing though. Do not reduce your calories to 1000 a day! That's 10 kinds of bad idea. Eating too few calories is really bad for you. Just stick this out and you'll start seeing a loss again soon.

Cool sounds good.

Im going to increase my cardio workout slowly every day hopefully this will speed everything up.

Thanks guys any more advise is welcome and appreciated.

What everyone else said, but ESPECIALLY this part: EAT MORE FAT.

Your body needs healthy fats - things like olive oil, nuts and seeds, avocado, etc. in order to properly function.

AT your current weight, 1400 calories should be fine for losing weight. You just need to have patience. :)

Wow, great work. I can appreciate getting stuck. It really sucks. I am drinking more water know that I ever have and that is one thing that you should check. I am a man and I drink 3 liters of water per day. By the way, I can probably guess this but are you a man or woman? Also, how did you gain the weight in the first place?

You're doing well.

Frank

I am a man yes LOL!

Like I said I used to be 146 pounds. I used to work out a lot as well.

Then I got lazy and stopped caring and eating a lot. I think I was a little depressed too.

But now I am motivated and love working out again and eating four 300 calorie meals a day is actually really easy and im not hungry at all.

Anyway I cant wait to do my cardio and workout tomorrow!

I would love to be at your plateau! You have made some great accomplishments....400 crunches...100 pushups! Those are some lean mean numbers you have there.

Maybe your body needs more cals with your vigorous workouts....not less.
Maybe its missing something, like water or certain nutrients. I have no idea and can't offer any advice. If it was me, i would make a small changes and monitor the results. Then change something else and see what happens. And I would listen to the sound advice like you will find on this site.
Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged! You seem to be doing the right things overall.

Way to go!

Check out this . It may change your mind about losing weight. Some good advice would be to change only one thing at a time and see if it works.

Thanks for all the help everyone I really appreciate it !

Well I weighed myself wednesday morning and im down to 184 now so I guess all is going well.

I have developed a really great eating routine now as well.

When I wake up I have a lean quizine ham and egg breakfast-220 calories.

After my workout I have a banana-100 calories and bfore I go to work around 4:30 I have a lean quizine dinner. Usually fish or chicken-290 calories.

Then at work around 7pm I have metamucil crackers-100 calories.

Then around 9:30-10pm I have a 6 inch subway sandwich. Turkey on wheat no cheese and I have pickles onions and peppers with mustard. 300 calories.

Then later I will have an apple as a snack-100 calories.

So I am eating around 1100 calories per day and im never really hungry at all. I also drink lots of diet snapple all day which has 0 calories. It is the peach flavored green tea.

Anyway any more advice or encouragement is appreciated.

Thanx guys!

Hi, stoaf88

I would not touch Snapple or any other “zero calories” drink. First of all, they are so fake and synthetic.
Secondly, it no matter if there is sugar, aspartame or any other “healthy” sweetener.

Your body has a very strong reaction to SWEET, and it is based NOT only on sugar content. Your insulin level may rise even after aspartame consumption.

If you like green tea that’s good for you. Drink normal green tea, still mineral water and eventually other kinds of teas.
If you want to move your body try to avoid any bread, which is NOT rye or real whole meal bread.

1100 kcal everyday doesn’t guarantee steady weight loss. If you see that your weight loss stopped or drastically slowed down is time for change.

Add around 200-400 kcal a day for two days and then go again 1000-1100 kcal for next two or free days.

The big point here is to keep your organisms in constant “surprise”.

And don’t be scared of animal, saturated fats. From biochemical point of view, they are more important for your body than vegetable OILS. Biologically you are animal.

Just be very careful with quantities of fats (it’s easy to overdose them).

Andrew,

What 3 to 4 words do you specifically look for in the ingredients of whole bread to ensure it is made from "real whole meal bread?"

Andrew thanx for the input.

But how could adding calories actually help to lose weight?

I would think that taking calories away would be more helpful no?

Hey guys just checking in.

Anyway when I weighed myself this morrning I was at 174.2 and I keep losing weight this week.

Some weeks the pounds just roll off easily and other weeks they roll off very slowly.

I seem to be moving through the 170's rather quickly.

I havent changed much except I do more cardio and pushups and situps everyday. I take saturdays off from working out cause after 30 days with no break from workouts I was getting a little sore and overtrained feeling. So 1 day off a week seems to be working out pretty well.

If anyone wants to know what I am doing here it is.

I eat Lean quizine/smart healthy choice meals.

Breakfast leanquizine eggs and ham. 220 calories.

Lunch lean quizine fish/tacos/turkey all of these are around 300 calories. Some are 280 some are 290 but none are over 300.

Around 7 pm i eat metamucil crackers 100 calories.

at 9 pm I eat a 6 inch subway turkey on wheat with veggies and mustard. 300 calories.

Then when i get home from work around 130am I have an apple with either an orange or banana. 200 calories.

I NEVER STRAY FROM THIS ROUTINE and never eat any excess calories.

I never drink anything that has calories. Yes I drink diet drinks and people say they are bad for you but hey 0 calories is 0 calories so i really dont care.

Hi Stoaf=)
Congratulations on your weight loss! That's amazing=) The equation to losing weight is pretty simple...you must burn more calories than you consume each day to lose weight and then when you want to maintain you can consume the same amount you burn each day. I know it seems very simple, but is SO hard. I lost 40lbs (after struggling for some time) but then realized what my body needed. Diets are no good! It is just key to eat lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains. I found the easiest way to lose my weight was by really watching the carbs (not avoiding, just monitoring) and performing a variety of different workouts. You may need to switch up the biking...for example, I do Turbokick about 2x/week, strength training 3-4x, and then just switch up my cardio all the other days. The interval training is excellent though! Do you work out at a gym? If you don't have access there are lots of really good dvd's you can do at home to break up the tedious bike routine=)would love to help you in any way I can! Let me know=)good luck!
