strength training

Hello, I have a question for everyone. I belong to a health club that offers strength training classes on Tuesday, Wed. and Thurs. I have always been told that you cannot train 2 days in a row so I have been going on Tues and Thurs to allow my body to rest. The instructors say it is okay to train 2 days in a row. I am very confused because every thing I have read says, do not train two days in a row. I was wondering if anyone can give me a clue as to what is correct.
Thanks

There are A LOT of variables that come into play with frequency of training:
How long have you been training like this?
What are your goals?
What does your outside the gym life look like? (manual labor, desk jockey etc.)
What do you do in these "weight lifting classes" (how many reps, how much weight, how many exercises)

I'm afraid it all depends on too many factors you need to explain for you to get a decent answer...

I agree with trainerty in that there are many variables. I suggest that you listen to your body - it will tell you how you should train. I can train 2 days in a row sometimes, especially if I do not work out hard on day 1. Check out Hypertrophy Specific Training by Bryan Hancock on thinkmuscle.com. I gained a lot of strength with this program in the past. And this training entails working out 3 times per week - very short compound movement workouts. Good luck!
