Story of the bad baguette

I was considering not starting a diary today, seeing as I didn't eat so healthy but then I told myself: if you're going to commit, you might as well commit.

My story begins in the mountains of Eastern France in a valley of croissants, french baguette and cheese, lots of cheese. I lived there for six months when I was 16-17 and gained about 25 pounds.

Three years later, I am still carrying around the bulk of that weight. Losing it has been on my mind and on and off a priority for the past three years. I have lost some, but I don't feel as healthy and definitely not as toned or fit as I did before I left. I am an athletic person, but I feel like I've become increasingly lazier. I am also a very stressed person but I feel anxious without stress and I like to be busy.

Right now, I live in Thailand on a year off but next September, 09' I will be going to back to college. I have two main goals one is to start next year at college in a body I feel not only comfortable in but proud of. The other is to manage my body, I can feel when I am full but I still overeat. I want to learn how to tell myself to stop and learn how to eat what makes me feel better and only as much as I need. I want this to become second nature eventually because I am tired of having to devise strategies and worry about food all the time.

My main weakness is I binge. I'll be good for a week and then I will let myself go for a weekend, I find it very hard to stay on track. In an effort to keep myself on the right way this time, I'm going to try and record my food intake and exercise here daily. At least post an update weekly. I welcome any and all feedback, as harsh as it may be and I am gracious for your support.

March 16th, 2009 (just to note: this is during a 'being bad' period for the weekend, basically diet failure point)

Breakfast:
- Thai omlette w/ veggies on rice: the Thai part basically means it is fried... I ate about half of the serving, it was a big serving.
- Indian Chai: complete w/ sugar and milk :(

Lunch:
- Coffee Shake: coffee, ice, little milk, little sugar
- Sweet rice gelatin thing, small little rectangle shape...

Snack:
- two prunes

Exercise: Combined jogging and incline walking on treadmill, 42 minutes, 400 calories

Dinner:
- 1 and 1/3 fresh corn with salt, pepper and chili sauce
- Glutinous rice encasing spinach and garlic: like a small rice savory pancake
- Sweet rice gelatin thing, small round shape
- Small Rice gelatin w/ taro in middle (chinese pastry like thing)
- 1/2 cup of kambucha

As you can well see, I have a severe weakness for sweet rice things and Thailand isn't helping, but maybe you can help kick my cravings. Sorry this post rambles...

Tuesday, March 17th. St. Patty's

I was tired today and feeling a little under the weather, a bit of headache. Maybe i didn't get enough caffeine.

Breakfast:
Cup o' black tea w/ dollop of 0% milk.
A bit of Kombucha
One prune, I wasn't too hungry

Lunch:
Stir fried veggies and a wee bit of rice

Snack:
Fresh pineapple, sipped on some kombucha

Dinner:
Five pieces of falafel dipped in tatziki and hummus

Sadly no work out today, how do I motivate myself after work?

Wed-Fri March 18-20th

I have some catching up to do, couple things came up past two days and a bit of bad news. Today I am feeling pretty good. I am excited about a trip to Singapore, I am going alone and I am excited to try that. I think it will be nice, relaxing, plus it isn't for too long anywho.

Ok, I remember most of my food so here goes:

Wed
Breakfast: Stir fried veggies, thai style

Lunch/dinner: stir fried veggies and quite a bit of rice

Snack: A bit of corn and two prunes

Exercise: a good day, I walked quite a bit and then went to the gym, ran/walked and did some weights

Thursday:
Breakfast: mango

Lunch: pineapple

dinner: brown stir fried rice w/ raisins and a few cashews, vegetable curry stir fry, green salad

snack: some watermelon

Exercise: pretty lazy today, I almost went for a swim but it was real chilly

Friday:
Breakfast/lunch: Tuna Salad w/ avocado, didn't finish it all, pretty dissapointing meal

Dinner: Ate at a sushi buffet/make your own soup thing. 6 or 7 small sushi pieces w/ wasabi. A bit of soup and some boiled vegetables, one egg. For dessert I had some sweetened red bean soup thing, small portion, three pieces of watermelon and a piece of pineapple.

Exercise: Climbed my building's 20 stairs then took the elevator down to the pool and swam for 10-15 minutes.

First off- props on the great name. Bad baguette is to you what bad captain morgan and diet coke is to me! Good job on getting started and keeping such good track of what you're eating and how much you're exercising. This forum is a great place to get inspiration for staying strong when you're tempted to take those "off days". One thing everyone always says here is drink your water! Looking at your list of foods and beverages consumed, I would recommend trying to drink less calories. I certainly don't know if the water in Thailand is any good but if you wanted some help finding ways to trim calories down, especially on lazy days, stick to plain old H2O if you can!

And keep up the good start! Enjoy your trip to Singapore!
