Static Contraction

I've been looking around different sites to read up on the static contraction method of strength training. All of the information seems convincing but im not sure if i want to switch to this method yet. Anyone currently using this method?

I believe these are called isometrics. To an extent they are effective, but the most gains will be seen when this technique is coupled with regular lifting and whatnot.

Yeah, Isometrics 'can' be a good tool. but no matter if your looking for size, strength, fat loss or just maintaining then nothing beats lifting weights.
You need a full range of movement under lots of resistance.

I agree with the others, they're a tool to be used in a magnificent lifting regimen.

What's your goal? Size, strength, health?

I personally think static contractions are better for mass. Since they only stimulate the muscle at one angle, you're only going to get a strength increase within +/-15 degrees of that position. So outside that 30 degrees your strength gains from a s.c. will be very very minimal if not nil.

My anatomy teacher is a bodybuilder and he suggested this to me, it works. But of course don't do JUST isometrics.
