Starting out...need some advice

Just got a gym membership today and am finally going to take working out seriously. In the past, I have worked out for a month or two and then just got busy with other things.

I am 5'9, about 140 lbs. Not big by any means but that is why I want to start working out. So, any advice to start off? I read the sticky but I wanted to know a good starting routine for 3-4 days a week?

The problem I have is that I want to gain some mass but I have a high metabolism and it is hard for me to put on weight. I eat alot and I have been at about the same weight for the last couple years.

Any help would be much appreciated!

If you want to get by on 3 days a week then you will need to do a full body routine. I have a link soliciting advice on this in the Personal Training Forum - Full Body core exercises

I have similar problem with metabolism only the older I get I find it is still very hard to put on muscle mass but easy to put on table muscle around my middle. If the 32185 is your birthday then I've got 19 years on you so you probably don't need to worry much about the table muscle yet.

Here is something you might want to read: From Men's Health -
The geniuses of muscle agree. You know that workout you've been doing? It's pretty dumb

Ok thanks, I will read that. I can work out as much as 7 times a week but I was under the impression that you should take a rest day every other day. I might have mis-read that though. So how many times a week should I work out to get a full workout? Any recommendations on a workout routine? I am really not exactly sure what machines work what muscles and what muscles to work on certain days?

Thanks,
-Ryan
