Starting for a second time, on the road to fitness...

Hi there,

Some four years ago I started a diary on here, I ended up losing like 25 pounds, but like most other times I had tried to lose weight, after a bit came off I just went off track and back to my old ways, and ended up gaining everything back.

This time I'm determined to lose ALL the excess weight, I'm currently at 238.6 lbs as of Sunday, yesterday. My goal is to get to at least 190, preferably 180, heck I'd be estatic once I make it under 200, at 199. I'd never been under 200 lbs in my adult life. I'm 5' 11" by the way.

This time it's different and more serious because I just got back from a bout with testicular cancer. My left testicle was 90% tumor by the time they removed it. The doctors said this type of cancer usually spreads into the abdomen, the lungs, and sometimes even the brain, BUT I got so lucky, the cat-scan revealed no spreading what so ever. Now at 2 months after surgery all my blood levels that were abnormal have returned to normal and I'll just need to keep getting blood tests for a while to make sure everything keeps going fine as it has been.

This was a major wake-up call for me. It showed me that these serious things can happen at anytime and without warning, they don't discriminate. Here I was at 28 years old thinking I was super healthy and I'd never get any bad illnesses, well we're all the same, and things can come at any time.

So I've decided to live to my highest potential, to live up to my highest vision of myself, and my highest vision of myself does not include being chubby. If I'm going to live with a deeper appreciation of life after what happened, I want to live it like it matters and doing what I feel is best and right for me, and that includes getting into shape.

At my highest a couple years ago I was 272, so at 238 I've made some progress, but for 4 years that is very mediocre progress, I just hadn't stepped up to the plate and done what I had to do, which is work hard.

I'm currently employing a vegan diet, I've been convinced to go that way by some literature and videos I've seen, and also since I seem to have developed some sort of meat allergy, vegan is the only way I see myself going.

So I'll be checking in often to update my progress, which I know I will make, so here goes.

:hurray:

Hey dude--I remember you! Sucks to hear things have been shitty for you--I'm so glad things are looking up for you.. Welcome back and kick some butt xxx

^Thanks ladies for the support.

I weighed in today and I lost a total of 5 and a half pounds this week! Hard work sure does pay off.

Last Sunday my weight was 238.6, this morning it was 233.0. I always weight myself first thing in the morning (after going to the bathroom), naked, and on an empty stomach.

My diet during the week was completely vegan, no meats, no dairies, no cheeses. It was all natural fruits and veggies and the occasional veggie patties. I also avoided drinks that weren't water.

I also put in some time in the gym, not as much as I could have, but that will change this week.

My goal for next Sunday is to have lost at least another 4 pounds, which will bring me under 230, which will be awesome cause it's been a long time since I've been under 230.

That's really good!
Interesting about the vegan meals, I have a vegan week every now and then to fix my stomach (dairy intolerant and stomach has a hard time digesting meat, especialy red meat).
What do you do to get enough proteins, beans are quite calorie rich I think.

^Thanks again for the support :D

At this week's weigh-in I came in at 230.0 pounds, for a total loss of 3 pounds for this week, just one tenth of a pound away from being under 230!

I worked out 4 days this week, did a good 2 and a half hours of cardio each of those times. I'm going to try and incorporate some free weights this week see if that gives me a boost.

My diet was the same, all vegan, with very limited amount of calories.

Hopefully this next week brings some more awesome drops on the scale.

:D

This week I weighed in at 226.6 pounds, for a loss of 3.4 pounds since last week. A total loss of 12.2 since I started, not bad :D

Here is a picture to illustrate my progress, I was bigger than 238 on the picture on the left, though I don't remember exactly how much :D

^thanks Sunflower!

This week I didn't lose any weight :(

BUT...

I took measurements, and since I started on May 5th, I have lost 1 inch off my stomach, 1 inch off my waist, 2 inches off my butt, 1 inch off my chest, and 3/4 inches off my neck, so I'm still making progress I guess :D

^Thanks!

Today I came in at 226.0, for a loss of 0.6 pounds. I was expecting more of a loss, but I'm happy there was some loss instead of none.

I'm going to try to change my workout routine and hopefully next week brings in better results :D

I came in at 232.0 this morning, that's a gain of 6 pounds :(

BUT, I'm blaming it on the fact that I had a big dinner last night and a lot of liquids, which I mostly never have before the day I weigh myself. I'm blaming it on that. I did kind fell off track this week. I stuck to my vegan diet pretty well all week, but I didn't work out once, I haven't worked out since last Saturday the 8th. I also had a lot of bread and nutella this week, and a lot of greasy veggie sausages as well, but still, I blame those 6 pounds on my big dinner last night, I'm sure had I followed my usual routine it would of been much less.

Well, I can't let this discourage me, time to pick myself up and keep on fighting! On to next week's weigh in! It can be done! :D

I haven't weighed myself in like two weeks.

I'll weigh myself tomorrow, July 1st, then again on August 1st. Reason? I'm starting a one month raw vegan diet. It's like a diet within a diet, I'm going from junk food vegan to hardcore just fruits and veggies vegan for a month to see the kind of results I get.

Here is my progress so far, the picture on the left is from December 2012 and the one on the right is from yesterday, June 29th 2013.

Today, July 1st, I'm starting a raw vegan experiment/challenge/diet to last a month.

I'm going to cut out everything that isn't water and fruits and veggies, no processed stuff, no fizzy drinks, just veggies and fruits, water, and homemade juices.

My starting weight today was 233.2 pounds.

I took measurements as well:

Chest: 43 1/4"
Stomach (bellybutton): 42 1/2"
Waist: 41 1/4"
Glutes/hips: 44 1/4"
Bicep: 14 3/4"
Forearm: 11 3/4"
Neck: 16 1/2"
Face/cheeks (under nose and above lips): 21 1/2"
Forehead: 23 1/2"
Thighs: 24 1/2"
Knee: 17 1/8"
Calf: 17"
Wrist: 6 3/4"

I'll check back in on August 1st to see how much progress I made, I'm shooting for a 20 pounds loss or something very close to it, we'll see how this goes!

:D

The dude! A fellow vegan, hurrah! I too became a vegan (over a year ago) for health reasons. The truth is there, and animal products are the culprit for so many issues in the world (health, world hunger, environmental , etc). Anyways, I'm rambling now, and could do so all day - haha. I just want to express how awesome it is that you're doing this, and I hope it's something you stick to.

I've incorporated raw before, and this was an AWESOME site for raw recipes. [link removed]

Right now I'm doing a 60-day juice fast. Have you seen fat, sick, and nearly dead? Awesome documentary.
