Squats and Deadlifts

I'm just wondering, is doing squats and deadlifts together in one workout a bad idea for any reason? I only ask because most of the workout plans I see never include them together on the same day. I was always a little confused by this, since no one's ever explained why.

its not....bad.....its just hard. I used to do it and got good results u just gotta very how u do each. whether you go hard on squats and rep out the deads or vice versa. and if u work your legs like that u need to make sure u get rest and EAT!

^^What he said

I would never put heavy squats and deads together as they are both so taxing on your body you won't be in good enough shape after the squats to give everything to deads (or other way around)

You could always do deads followed by step ups or lunges though

I do 1 for 6 weeks then switch to the other. You'll hurt your lifts by doing that. Theres no real need to hit a major muscle group like that more than once in a workout.

No...not recommended.

I usually do squats and then once my progression ends go back to deadlifts. And then when that stops go back to squats. Works for me anyhow.

i squat 3 times a week.

if i used the excuse "its bad to do both squats and deads in the same workout", i would not be able to deadlift because i squat every workout.

deadlifts are great... i dont think its too hard to do both in one workout...especially if you do romanians when you squat heavy, and deadlift heavy when you front squat.

its hard work to do squats and deads in one workout. thats why i do it.

i really doubt my progress would be better if i cut out deadlifts when i squat, and cut out squats when i deadlift.
heck, if that worked, i would not be stubborn to conform.

theres plenty of good routines out there that have squat and deadlift in the same workout. the 3x3 powerlifting program has squat, bench, and deadlift 3 times a week.

just watch the intensity.
if you squat at high intensity, deadlift with more volume, less intensity. maybe do power cleans or romanians.
if your planning to deadlift heavy, front squat, OH squat, or do higher volume with squats.

hard work pays

I began to do both on the same day after about 1 year after i started lifting. I wish i had done them both when i first started lifting. I put on a lot of muscle and added a lot of strength. Just use good form, dont get sloppy when you get tired, and you will get tired!

BINGO!!! If you really want to to both you need to have a very strong core and back. As your form goes(getting tired) ur abs and back are gonna be working harder to keep the weight from crushing you. I actually do bodyweight squats, and focus on my back staying straight(over head squats are GOLDEN in increasing back stability)
