Well, I figure I'd start a quick journal while I have the time. It's been a couple weeks now, and I've lost 10 pounds. Sounds unhealthy, but at least a small part of it had to have been water weight. I make sure to weigh myself in the morning before eating. Almost 4 years ago I was at 250, and I put a lot of effort into getting down to 185. Dieting, working out, and walking 5-10 miles a night or even more were common practice. I was able to lose 65 pounds and gain a respectable amount of muscle mass in approximately 5-6 months. Unfortunately the spark that started it all (a girl, what else
) sort of ended badly. We are still very close friends but for a good while I was so discouraged by that as well as by being laid-off from work that over 2 1/2 years or so I had gained literally all the weight back (well, I had hardly any muscle back then and have a good deal now so it's not QUITE that bad I guess).
Anywho, I'm completely determined to fix this. Not for anyone else but myself. I finally found a diet that I can live with long term. I might need to play around with it at some point in the future, but as of now I'm having absolutely no difficulty with temptation or slipping up. I'm very grateful to be that lucky, whatever the reason. Here's what I'm eating at the moment:
100% whole wheat bread
A variety of lean deli meats (chicken, turkey, sometimes ham)
Occasionally a bowl of broth based soup
Occasionally a glass of 100% cherry juice
Plenty of water (80oz a day MINIMUM)
Various fruits (mostly oranges), and vegetables/mustard for sandwiches
That's it. So far I haven't deviated in the slightest from the above and I've been feeling great. My love of music (mostly metal/electronic/progressive) helps a great deal in my workouts. Looking forward to getting it done and switching to a muscle-gaining focus. I've read a great deal of Steve's thread and I encourage implementing HIIT at some point to some degree if you want to be more effective at weight loss. I experimented with it last time I lost the weight and it's a very efficient and ultimately satisfying way of exercising. Not the ONLY way, but surely something everyone should try once they get to a weight of level of fitness that they can handle it at (which doesn't need to be great, believe me).
Sorry if it's a little long, I tend to ramble. Good luck and thanks everyone!
