I want to lose 6 stones 4 pounds. My start weight was 16 stone 11 pounds so that means I'd like to achieve a weight of 10 and a half stones which will bring me within my healthy weight range for my height.

I hope to achieve my target within the next 18 months and am using a combination of calorie counting (1500 per day), low/medium GI foods, low fat foods (less than 5%) and exercise. I'm only exercising once a week 'properly' at the moment. I hope to have the confidence to do more as my weight reduces.

My motivation for losing weight are my own 17 reasons for losing weight which i have quoted elsewhere on this forum - but here they are again!

  1. to feel healthier
  2. to feel fitter and have more energy
  3. to look better
  4. so i can stop shopping in Evans
  5. so i can bend down to fasten my trainers or put on my knickers without having to sit on the bed or trip over them!
  6. So I am more attractive to my husband – maybe we could even have sex
  7. to have more self confidence and self esteem
  8. to improve my aching back and joints
  9. so my wedding ring will fit again
  10. to give me courage to change the bad aspects of my life
  11. to live longer
  12. so i can paint my toenails
  13. so the skin on my heels doesn't crack and bleed
  14. so i can't rest my coffee cup on my stomach
  15. so my children aren’t embarrassed
  16. so I stop feeling embarrassed to be seen in public by people I knew when
  17. I was slimmer
  18. and the last one - for now - so i can actually wipe my ****!!!!

Things are going really well so far - only two weeks in i know but i've already lost 5.5 lbs with hopefully another 2.5 - 3 this week. Did succumb to a couple of glasses of wine this week but not a disaster. I've measured myself this morning and i've lost 7 inches total from my major 'bits' (Bust, waist, belly, hips and right thigh) - yes i do have another thigh but one measurement will do!

I need desperately to feel better about myself. You see, 15 years ago i did this after having my first child and I lost 6 stones. I kept the weight off for 10 years and even ran four slimming clubs for Slimming Magazine for all that time. I was one of the top group leaders in the country and went all over the world on conferences etc and even had my picture in magazines! Then my circumstances altered, I went back to full-time work after my second child went back to school and everything changed. A really bad period in my professional life plus my husband's company going bust with us having to pay the bank back for business debts led to a whole load of comfort eating/drinking and I've piled weight back on, particularly over the past 3 and a half years. Its convenient just to ignore the problem when you have other things on your mind but the end result is that you end up feeling crap about yourself.

Now things are on a more even keel and I think its finally time for me to get a grip of this problem before it kills me . . . Feeling motivated, positive and determined - although I know from past experience that this is the easy part!

So there you go - my first diary entry - and a long one at that! Hopefully the next one will be shorter!:D

Week 3

Many thanks for your reply - i think honesty is the best policy! spent too long with my head in the sand and only looking at myself in the mirror from the neck up and thinking i don't look THAT bad! hehehehe

2 and a half pounds so total is now eight pounds. I'm now off the quick start programme and on around 1600 cals per day. Must admit i'm a bit worried that after a fortnight on much less calories that i will continue to lose weight. I know the theory behind it is correct but i don't want any blips at this stage temporary or otherwise! I don't think I;ve quite got the hang of this 'ticker' thing - i just keep getting long lines of text when i try to post it on the forum . . . any tips

Start weight: 16 stone 11 lbs
Current Weight: 16 stones 3 lbs
Target Weight: Half a stone at a time!
