Sparrows Experiment

Never fails. I did go. I did 3000 yds but I had made a workout for 5000. Inevitably when I stop at walls during my intervals people talk to me and ask for tips as if I were doing nothing and had all the time in the world to chat. I can't not stop, but I don't want to appear rude either! errr. Its not that they take a lot of my time but I have to focus when I workout and they break my mental drive! Today the guy who stopped me is also the husband of one of my tri friends (and I'd never met him) so once he knew who I was then we started talking about triathlons, the vineman vs barbs race (both half ironmans but on different weekends) blah blah. then a lady stopped me and asked for some stroke drills. I must have something tattooed to my forehead.

I'm sitting here at the Denver airport between flights. I have an hour. Its 11:45 Denver time. I used to live here, so this is kinda weird. My eyes are hurting SO badly and I feel like I'm getting sicker as the minutes tick on. I really should have just rested today knowing I felt this way. I already felt that overtrained feeling when I woke up today. dumb. I have some nice tylenol PM waiting for me on this next flight. well whatever, tomorrow I could be just fine...oh wait, its already almost "tomorrow", actually it IS tomorrow where I'm going. hahahha okay I'm not all "here" if you know what I mean. I'm STARVING and nothing is open in this airport? What- people don't eat at midnight here? whats up with that. I put all my protein bars in my regular baggage at the last minute. Brilliant. I do have those little mini pretzals they gave me... Oh I'm so hungry. The entire Denver University Swim team was on my last flight. I sat by a guy named Brian who was a cutie and ate a few "Cliff" bars, apples and peanut butter and drank a lot of gatorade. I was really hoping he'd have to pee after all that gatorade because I sure did, and he was blocking my way...but he didn't so I sat suffering because I didn't wanna bug him. He was reading some textbook for school and his tray was down.

okay, nobody wants to hear all about my life tonight so I'm off. Who here lives in Colorado. I'm givin a shout out to ya! Next stop Atlanta. *yawn*

night

Oh jeez, thats not your fault. I'm hard headed and would have done it anyway. They'll know I'm dead when someone mentions a run or a swim and I really don't get up. lol

I feel fine! I think that was just a hard day and night of very little sleep and a hard busy schedule. I got a few hours of shut eye when I got in to Georgia and then I was good to go again! I've since gotten completely caught up on sleep even through a screaming newborn and 2 yr old in the night! lol. All those years of mommy training has served me well :)

Its so beautiful here today and I took advantage of it with a short hill run this am for just 30 minutes. thirty minutes was all I could handle with the hills. I now know where I'll be spending my training time for that half ironman....in the rolling hills! That race is hilly and I had little endurance today. At least I got out :)

Other than that I'm actually enjoying sitting still in my grubbies, drinking tea and enjoying family.

30 min hill run here in Georgia. I'm 100% rested and ready to rumble when I get back tomorrow.

Right on, right on. :D

How's the digestion doing? Did that theory pan out at all?

actually yes. all but today. I've had some real trouble today and I'm not sure why but I'm hurtin right now. BUT nothin while I was in GA visiting, so that was awesome.

seriously :( I have my endoscope thingy on Feb 26. hopefully it'll shed some light.

Gym today was alright.

Started with a full NROL workout Fat loss 3 workout B. Alone. I got through it pretty quick but I hardly rested so that was cardio in and of itself. This is what it is

BIG OL' SUPERSET 1x12 FOUR TIMES THROUGH
underhand grip lat pulldown (100)
step ups (20)
DB press ups (25)
front squat (we do hack squat for this) (130)

Then another big superset but 1x20 TWO times through

Squat (100)
wide grip lat pulldown (90)
step ups (15)
DB shoulder press (20)

After that...

Spin for 45 min-instructor had no music so I put on my own, pushed it but got bored. Can't wait to go out on my real bike

Then...

4 mile easy run that I forced myself at 10 min miles for. Today 9 min miles felt the most comfy.

Then...

I went home and had a great lunch

Maybe you're allergic to/affected by something at home?

Well I actually had the upset while still in GA. I think its stress related. The more anxious I'll get about something the more it flares up. I get nervous about flying and it didn't start until about midway through my day the day I flew home. it was a rough trip back. I just kept eating stuff to calm it down. Mostly carbs :( BUT did lose 3 pounds AWAY from home. I never can figure that out about vacation.

Yeah, that sure is odd. If anything, I'd guess that you'd put on weight as your liver has a glycogen replenishing orgy. :p

Also that workout makes me want to not even open my copy of NROL. Scary. T_T

First off...I've officially registered for my very first half ironman held this Aug 2! That was a scary thing for me to do....1.2mi swim, 56mi bike, 13.1mi run. Yes this is only half the distance FF is doing (and on the same course!), but its going to kick my butt royally.

Second off...I've officially given up my baby blue to FF. I said goodbye to her today as the fedex guy took her away. I did actually cry. I'm a softy ;) Its nice to know I'll see her again soon though.

Third off...I've been juicing all day to get me jump started into my little program my dr wants me to try for a month. Juicing is fun and I'm not all that hungry even. I've been recording what I've "eaten" today and on paper it looks like a crazy amount of food...although half of it is stuff I'm not actually eating. SOme of the combos I've tried today are less than appetizing in the recipe..but when I've tried them they're really good! who'd of thunk it.

Today I did 3000 yards in the pool. I did a planned out workout and it only took me 42 minutes. I felt very strong. I wonder what I could have done if I'd just swam those laps straight.

Tomorrow I'm due for a 10 miler. I've promised myself to do this for endurance-not speed. I'm shooting to slow to around 9-10 min miles.

hasta...

It's kind of implied, but there's no rest between those exercises in either superset, so Fat Loss III is not for the faint of heart. But to go on and spin for 45 minutes and THEN do a 4 mile run? That's phenomenal. No doubt about it.

thank ya :) Right, there is no rest between the sets, only between the supersets themselves. That was the rest I meant. I just did one superset after another after another without taking the rest there. It was hard, but I had a few days off too so don't be too impressed ;)

There aren't many days I can truely say "I'm proud of myself" but today IS one of them.

Ran to gym 6.3miles 50:31 8.01pace

Did NROL Fat Loss 3 workout A

Ran home 6.3miles 48:44 7.44 pace

Now this is the cooky thing. I promised FF that I would go slow today. SO I went on percieved effort (something I've been reading more about as a better gauge of ability if you are in tune with your training/body/fitness). I went to the gym VERY comfortable thinking I was for SURE at least at a 9 min mile. My heart rate never went above 138. I got a gatorade at the gym, drank it during weights. Did go slightly lighter on my weights today and then ran home. The way home was more rough so I felt I felt I slowed even more. However I had a pretty strong head wind since we have a storm moving in so I did have to put forth more effort to maintain the same speed. I must've overcompensated. I also did not stop my watch on the way TO the gym when I had to stop for lights (there are 12 lights on the way to the gym. I didn't have to stop for all of them). But I did stop my watch for lights on my way home. My heartrate was 140 steady all the way home.

NONETHELESS I did 12.6 miles. I really don't care about the time as much as I did the distance in good form. Despite my previous thoughts, I think I may have a fighting chance to get below my 1:45 goal for the half in a few weeks.

PS NO shin pain so far!

I also did not stop my watch on the way TO the gym when I had to stop for lights (there are 12 lights on the way to the gym. I didn't have to stop for all of them). YOU USUALLY STOP IT FOR THAT! aahaahahhaha what a penny pincher ;)

NONETHELESS I did 12.6 miles. ---- (nice brick)--- you taught me that word eh!

I think I may have a fighting chance to get below my 1:45 goal for the half in a few weeks.
(oh no--- and then you throw it all out by letting your dominate spirit kick back in. hahhahaa

PS NO shin pain so far!

I inserted some comments.

NICE WORKOUT! Feels good don't it. Now I am jealous- my gym is only 5.7 miles away.

how did your legs do with gathering fluid between the runs? shoulders?

CONTENDERS!

You've not seen LONG lights until you're here in Sacramento. Those lights were often 2 minutes long-heck yah I'm gonna stop my watch! that could have been an extra 24 minutes! lol. I cross some big intersections and have to cross an overpass to get to my gym. Talk about intimidating.

Thank you for the kudos. I was sure you were going to give me a lecture :) I really DID try and go slowly. My legs felt absolutely fine starting out the second time. Even with the weight lifting session. It was a good day. Now I'm eating like a horse.

and as far as the "dominate spirit" thing. I just have to defend that I ALWAYS have my races on my mind. I'm not wasting the longest run I've done for a YEAR without thinking about it in terms of what it could mean for my race coming up :) It was either going to be a motivator, or a wake up call. I'm glad it was the former today. ultimately I had made up my mind that I wasn't going to care what my watch said. I'd already decided to go slow and I was okay with that. When I looked at it at the end of both runs I seriously couldn't believe it.

Thanks for being such a great support Focus and FF

I am no differt and you know it. I can't get that "overstated" comment of your os 1:45 out of my head. and today-- I had no chance at that. But, I am not in race trim, and Sunday is 8 days out.

We will see. SUB 2 fer a kiss. Sub 1:50 and I will be so high on myself you won't exist- then you'll be off the hook. SO COME ON 1:50:01 hhehehehee ;)
