Sparrows Experiment

Found a friend at the gym and we got chatty. Didn't get as much done as I would have liked. I did 30 min tread at 8:30 pace and then 15 min of moving stairs level 11. Then about 30 min of weights and core. I've been eating well today, thats the important thing :)

Yesterday as I was getting out of the car for church I twisted my leg funny and hurt my knee pretty badly. I can't straighten it, bend down or sit and then stand well. It feels like my IT band cause I can feel it up my thigh to the side of my hip. SUCKS. I can workout like a maniac for 2 hours a day and stay put together, but I move wrong getting out of my CAR and hurt something. I spent last night with ice on it and slept with it elevated after taking some ibuprofen. I'm a little concerned because I have 2 weeks till my important race, but I know i have ample time to heal if I do it right and really shouldn't lose much if I had to take it easy from here on out. Boy this seems like dejavu...I'll find the silver lining, a good attitude can make all the difference, plus maybe I'll be miraculously healed :D

Healed. No kidding. I was hobbling around this morning so I opted for the pool and thought I'd just use mostly upper body. Did about 2100 yds and about half way through pain disappeared. I even went to spin after that and was fine (if tired). Had a TON of people in the pool to coach today for Masters. Its a 6 lane pool and there were 4-5 people in a lane! Had a bbq at parents house (chicken), celebrated my sons bday (today) and ate FAIRLY well. Did have cake and cheetos. Went on a 4 mi walk in the blazing heat with hubby later. I'd say it was burned off pretty quickly. I'm sure craving the sweets now though.
Leg is still good. Just a bit tender. I just need to stretch more. I'm acting like I'm invincible. I'm not.

I'm slightly losing my workout motivation lately. I'm just tired of working so hard for so long. Today I did spin for a half hour (I was late) and then right into a pretty grueling hill workout for 35 minutes. Then 15-20 min of intense core and a few weights. I'm just now starting to really feel that hill workout. My body is tired. Tomorrow is my last day at the gym for the week and then I'm going on a mini vacation with my husband till Sunday morning. NO kids :) The place we're going to is very recreational and even has an olympic pool, full workout room etc. and its on a lake with a ton of trails. I won't be hurting for workouts. Once we come back I start my taper. Yay. I haven't figured out what will be AFTER this race June 10. It is part of a 3 race series but I"m not interested in doing all 3 unless it looks like I could place at all 3 (and get some prize money!)..but I'll figure that out once its over.

Finally a spin workout that felt good. It really all depends on the bike, I've decided. If you can't set the bike up perfectly the workout pretty much stinks. I spun heavy today. I wanted to really tax my legs since it'll be the last hard thing for my week so I put on ultra resistance..so much that my cadence was around 70 the whole time (very low for me). It really felt great and it made the recovery times much more enjoyable. I used my heart rate monitor today too. I traded swim lessons for a friend, for it. My max for the workout was 150 and that was out of breath, out of steam working my a$$ off. My average was more like 135-140 and in recovery it would bounce back down to 100-105. It was neat to see the numbers since I've never used it in spin before. Tomorrow we go on vacation. yipppeee. Kids are on their way to grandmas as we speak :D

Dang you must be well trained to be going hard but not pushing your heart rate into the 80's...

when I got the heart rate monitor I was curious to see if I'd be able to reach the max I should because I have a really low resting heart rate. When I hold onto machines that have sensors I've never seen it go higher than 150 either, even all out sprinting. I tried really hard to get it up there. I bet if I'd had that sucker on for my last triathlon I would have exceeded my max! I've never worked so hard.

Just thought I would stop in and say good luck with your training.

I mean, we've both been here for quite some time and Ive never subscribed to this diary. :)

Had a nice vacation just me and the hubby. I had a sore throat going into it which got a little worse everyday. Course I didn't slow down for that. I ended up with a full on ear ache last night that kept me up and visited the dr today to be told its strep throat and a pretty wicked ear infection. I'm just glad its not race weekend.
Anyway, I ate pretty well like 80% of my vacation and kept up activity. Tomorrow starts my taper week. The light at the end of the tunnel :D

Where did you go on vacation? Im going to Puerto Rico Wednesday.

this is probably on the previous page.

NICE! We didn't go anywhere as fancy as that  Just to Clear Lake in Northern California at a resort there where they hold some major concerts...but we didn't go to a concert. ha ha. Doesn't sound very exciting does it? lol. Its by Napa Valley so we did a lot of wine tasting and touristy things :p The vacation part was WITHOUT KIDS. Anywhere without them is a little holiday :D

Still feeling fairly crappy. I'm on antibiotics but they've not kicked in yet. I coached a morning practice for a rec team today at 6-7am and then went to the gym to spin and then coach masters. Later today I did 2 swim lessons. Long day, but it went fine. Spinning may have been a bit ambitious. Tomorrow we're practicing transitions in tri class by swimming biking and running briefly for each one. That should be okay. I'm working on just keeping my nutrition in check and hydrating like mad

I got up to coach 6-7am and then went back to bed. My kids let me sleep till 11am! Unbelievable. They're on summer vacation, what do they care. ha
I could have slept all day. I eventually got to the gym. Missed tri class but I did 30 min of running:
5 min 10 min pace
5 min 9 min pace
5 min 8 min pace
15 min alternating 2 min at 9 min pace, 1 min sprint as fast as I can
and swam 1400 yds of boring laps
It was plenty. I still feel a bit junky but I felt strong running, not so much swimming. My ear hurt when I did flip turns so I stopped those and kept my time in the pool to a minimum. Its still super plugged up. I'm worried at my energy level but I'm just going to keep doing what I know I should and hope it all comes together by Sunday.
