Sparrows Experiment

I believe that my version would be some port or a good barleywine, with some Bach lute suites in the background.

As for the settings, I really don't know - I've not really attempted running at all because of the impact (my training so far has been on the elliptical and the stationary bike). 4.0 was the max - the treadmill adjusts speed and incline over the course of the run, so I'd be doing 4.0 at 0.0 incline, or 3.5 at 3.5 incline etc. And to be honest around 4.0 it was more of a slow jog than a fast walk.

Choice of tunes is right on. For the more contemporary I have been turned onto Andrea Bocceli for some time. That is some sweet stuff.

Barleywine? what the heck? :p

Boccelli's a decent singer, but I prefer hearing the arias in context of the full operas.

Barleywine is beer - a big beer in terms of taste and alcohol (around 10%-13% usually). Great for a nightcap (and I have had it as such on many a winter's night).

Opera is, I think, an aquired taste. Boccelli is tame, for sure. He unwinds my kid-stress so I like him :)
Your nightcap sounds...tempting...but I'm such a lightweight that if I had that much alcohol I may never wake up

Hmm you're probably right about the acquired taste part - but having seen a few I can see what the fuss is about... Even if I cheat and get the operas in English on CD :)

As for the barleywine, it's well worth trying - one of the breweries in PA makes a killer one called Old Horizontal (that's the one I was thinking of when I mentioned a nightcap). Victory Brewing (makers of OH) had tshirts made up - "Get Horizontal With Someone You Love" on the back and the on the front.

haha thats pretty funny Stingo. :D

Today I woke up VERY unmotivated and grouchy. I hate that for no good reason grouchy feeling. I wasn't going to go to the gym but my husband was chipper and like "hey wanna to go the gym?!" as if its something I never do. lol. So I didn't want to spoil his enthusiasm (any chance to motivate him to go is a good one) and I went. I was going to run but I ate too much cereal right before going so I thought that might be a bad idea and did 45 min on the eliptical instead. BORING. I felt like I hardly did anything at all but I guess its better than NOT going to the gym, like my original plan. I didn't do weights or anything. I was too bored with myself. haha

I had my regular kashi go lean and milk for breakfast and have hardly eaten lunch (2 bites of my sons sandwich) and I'm really not hungry. I'm not really stressing about it today. its a whatever day and I'm good with that. BAH HUMBUG. lol :D

You still need to eat on your "whatever" days ...grumpy :p

PPH :p :p :p

Thats how my son writes "POOH POOH HEAD" when hes mad at his sister and writes a note to her. LOL

YES SIRRR I am eating a healthy lunch now....

So all of a sudden you're too emo to lift weights?

I do great at the gym when my kids are with me-throw them in childcare and I can focus for the next 1.5 hours alone..but throw in my husband and hes like my workout criptonite! I hardly ever can have killer workouts when he comes with. I dunno why, we don't even workout "together"!

SO yes, hopefully just for the day. It wasn't really a weight day anyway, thank goodness, or I might really be ticked. lol.

Hello, I'm in much better spirits today. Just a bit of a hiccup yesterday for no good reason.
I got up and decided to warm into my day instead of rushing off to the gym. My son threw up last night anyway so I'm making sure he's ok today. As I type hes running around kicking his soccer ball into the goal over and over. I think he's just fine. ;)
I took some excedrin cause of a headache when I woke up and I forgot that stuff has caffeine. YIPES. I have pretty much weaned myself off of sodas and coffee so that really threw me...and I still feel rather hyper. You should see how fast I'm typing! lol. j/k
Anyway, I used that newfound energy to clean the whole garage (it was a MESS) and clean the backyard and organize the kids seasonal clothes getting a "give away" bag started. OH I'm crock-potting a roast for tonight too. :) Yes I'm good, I know. lol
Its amazing what you can get done when you don't take 2 hours of your morning at the gym.
My husband is home at lunch and I plan to go to the gym then. I have a great goal today. I feel strong enough to try to mimic the 10K race somewhat. I'm not sure I can hold my goal pace the whole time today but I'm shooting for at least half the distance. which is totally doable...if I get to half way and feel good I'll go as far as I can. My goal pace is 7.5 on the tread which is 8 min miles. No big thing, I do that all the time but its really a mental deal with me as soon as I place an expectation on myself. I'll do 10 min of stretching when I get to the gym so I don't have to ease into my pace too much, cause thats not what I'll do at the race. I need to go out about 7:50-7:55 in case I need to make up for lag in the final miles. The hardest part of races is feeling like you can do ANYTHING that first mile cause you feel so stinkin great. Holding back is the hard part.
I am struggling with my appetite lately. VERY unhungry. I usually make up for it in the end but even forcing it early on is making me feel like gagging. This morning anything protein sounded GROSS so I had half a dry bagel and some chai green tea with milk. I'll update later

Had a fantastic workout. Lots of energy.
Tread:
2 min 6.5 warm up
3 miles 7.5 pace (8 min mile)
.5 mile@ 7.6
.5 mile@ 7.7
.5 mile@ 7.8
.5 mile@7.9
.5 mile@8.0
.5 mile@8.3
.2 mile@8.6
It was a 10K simulation to see what I could do and my time was 48:46 which is faster than my goal of 50.0! VERY cool. I know the course I'm going to run for this race VERY well because its in my old college town and I used to run the route constantly. It has permanent mile markers so as I was running I was totally imagining myself at each place in the course. I'm really happy with what I could do today. Blew away my expectations.
After the 6.2 miles I did chest weights and stability ball core exercises. Felt very very strong today. Still haven't eaten very much but I'll try and do that now.

Very strong workout sparrow, nice job. But you still have to eat

yeah yeah

Well my lack of eating this morning bit me in the butt big at the end of my day:

B- chai tea, 1/2 blueberry bagel plain
L-(right before gym) 2 bites homemade burrito, 1/2 chicken breast
postworkout-1 c skim milk, 2 scoop whey, 1/2 c kashi go lean granola
....1/2 pb cookie
D-3 slices combo pizza, 1 diet coke, split a HUGE "chocolate chip brownie sundae" at a restaurant for date night
ERRRRR

I vow my life to clean eating from here on. I feel so sick and disgusting. Remind me of this moment when I want to be stupid again. LOL

taken from the wise words of SHE "tomorrow is another day"
AMEN sistah
lesson learned JP :(

Eating hasn't been very much better than yesterday. I need to get my act together.
Gym:
15 min HIIT
15 min moving stairs
10 min elliptical
20 min swim 1200 yds

Workout was short good, and intense. Too bad I couldn't keep the momentum with an equally good diet :( Back to planning out meals. Its the only way.

So, in your previous post you meant to say lesson NOT learned. I know, I know, I'm being a hard a*s, just don't want to see you regress back to your low cal days.

Ah I wasn't very specific huh. Today was as bad as yesterday as far as eating lots of crap and stuff I need to stay out of. It certainly wasn't a low cal day at all. I have been craving all sorts of junk food and I have zip will power lately. Half of it is hormonal so I'm waiting for that part to pass. I'm hoping it may account for more than half. I need to write things out so I can stay eating clean. Normally I can do it on my own good will power but not lately, somehow its vanished for the time being. Physically I can tell too :( Talk about water retention :(
I finished off my trigger food today (cheetos) so tomorrow will be a fresh start. I'm going for a long run before the rush of my kids' soccer games so I'll be feeling pretty good after that and I can start my day clean and keep it that way. ugh :( I need your encouragement and accountability!

I had to post something because this is the 500th reply in my journal! ha
Today the fam had soccer games and then we went to an area around here with great pumpkin patches and apple picking. Very fun. Very tiring. I never did my long run. The alarm went off and I pulled the covers over my head. I'm a wimp.
I've eaten better today, but kind of a disgusting diet. To me its like just get the healthy food in me, who cares how its tasting, just shovel it in before I go for the junk! As long as I can get it down I won't reach for as much junk food. How sad that its come to this. haha
Breakfast: coffee w/sf vanilla flavor and splenda, 1 c Kashi go lean crunch (no milk) 200
lunch: protein shake: 2 scoop protein in water (out of milk), 2 T flax seeds blended, 2 ravioli (lol) 300
snack: 1/2 bagel sm. bit PB 100, diet pepsi :(
dinner: 1.5c steamed broccoli w/ butter spray, 8 egg whites scrambled w parm and butter spray, 1/2 ww lc tortilla 300
Its only 4:30 so I'll have another hefty snack since I'm grossly under cals right now. I know the food selection is rather revolting. Its even gross for me to write it. ha. Not appetizing, for sure, but at least my choices were closer to the right track. I'm a "do over on monday" sort of gal so thats when I'll really buckle down again. I'm using the weekend to wean myself from my gluttony of crap. :D

wow.....8 eight whites?! wat do u do with the yolk then?
ha no worries, we r allowed cheat meals rite? heheh...
anyway i m new here! just wana say hi!:D
