Some help please - what to eat (long read)

Me and my fiance are serious about working this out and start getting active, eating right and losing weight... We both have become extremely unhappy with ourselves. If you dont care to read just skip down to the bold.

Basically, well we just had a baby and she gained about 40 lbs (our girl is now almost 6 months old) and she hasn't been able to burn it off because... we are both laid off! Perfect opportunity to be physically active now that winter is coming to an end, but with winter we pretty much just hibernated in doors.

I myself gained 25lbs when i quit smoking, and another 15-20ish just being lazy sitting at home all day. I was 245-50, but in shape from dealing with roofing stuff all day Now after quitting smoking and sitting at home being lazy i am at 291, the heaviest i have ever weighed.

Here is the issue, she likes all veggies etc, but i absolutely can not STAND any vegetables (unless of course there deep fried:blush5: ) I mean carrots are ok but that's about it, raw carrots. So my plan is to cut out all my bs snacks like chips and the norm replacing them with fruits. Can i still healthily lose weight without veggies? I have tried veggies steamed, cooked etc still a no go.

What would be a good example of a decent snack/meal for me? Are there any websites or articales for healthy eating for the people who dont like things with veggies in? I myself dont understand what a person means when they say balance proteins etc etc out through out the day

She has it easy because she loves veggies (although both or preference has been fast food for the past 5 months, but with work she can easily change that as well)

thanks for reading.

Well technically you can loose weight eating whatever type of food you'd want too, but the healthy part is a bit more complicated :)

On a basic level you need to get a reasonable amount of proteines, some carbohydrates and some fatty acids. (You can survive without carbs and to an extend fatty acids but you will pretty much die without protein pretty fast). On a more detailed level you need a spectrum of different vitamins, minerals and trace things, also fibers, to make your body run smoothly.

Now The reason that vegetables are hugely popular amongst healthy eaters and other goody two shoes (besides individual taste buds) is the fact that they, generally speaking, has a lot of these vitamins, minerals and such per kalorie, so eating 100 kalories of veggies will, generally speaking, get you WAY more healthy things your body needs, than eating 100 kalories worth of say... deep fried beefcakes.

I'd suggest that you should, if you are really that averse to eating veggies, look into eating a reasonable amount of non-veggie things with a high nutritional value... stuff like... liver, fat fish (and fish in general), different grains like quinoa, oats and such, things with a good amount of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Carrots are also very good unless you smoke a lot, there is something with carotine and either tar or nicotine that isn't so good, I can't remember the specifics.

Now for tl;dr advice:

Fish things like... using smoked fish on top of a slice of fiberous bread, I like smoked salmon myself but you can go with whatever.

Oat-things. you can make oat balls and oat cakes and whatnot pretty easily without using much more than oat stuff.

Make like... carrot/potato "meatball"'ish things.. grate potatoes, carrots and mix an egg in there and fry it on the pan, excellent snacks and they're pretty nutritious.

canned tuna for an easy solution

thats what I can think of atm :)

Veggies

I also have the problem of being not so fond of vegetables. But, they are really helpful for losing weight and being healthy. Full of nutrients and the fiber content fills you up with very few calories for their bulk. Therefore, the way I incorporate them into my diet is combining them with other food. I can put a lot of veggies on a sandwich and all they really do is bulk up the sandwich for example.

I didn't eat vegetables much either, until I started dieting, when I found that everything tastes better when you are a little bit hungry, including the veggies. Problem solved.

I still don't like boiled or steamed veggies much, unless they are fresh out of the garden, which is a rare treat. A plate of sliced raw vegetables with hummus dip is pretty good.

The good news is that losing weight is not about eating vegetables or anything in particular. The key to lose weight is to get the number of calories ingested everyday below how many calories your body needs. So that when your body needs more energy to do its thing, it dips into stored fat and this is how you lose weight (fat).

So, how many calories do you eat in a day. Figure them out, really. Don't estimate. Count, measure, weigh, calculate.
