Solaani's journey journal du jour.

So to start, the basics (pardon the mix of empirical and metric but I'm a confused Canadian! Plus, cm and lbs are each the smaller of the two scales which makes it easier to track change):
Current
Weight: 176 lbs
Chest:98 cm
Waist: 91 cm
Hips:105 cm
Thigh: 61 cm

Goal Weight: 150lbs
(I am not sure what my "goal" measurements should be, but will be tracking them for progress anyways to see where I end up)

Battle-Plan (copy and pasted from my intro thread!)
1. STOP EATING AT THE DAMNED FOOD COURT. This is self-explanatory.

2. Pack a lunch to work. I bought 2 weeks worth of frozen lunches, plus I try to take a piece of fruit or a granola bar. Yesterday I got to bring leftover greek salad :)

3. Would it kill me to actually cook once in a while? Even if frozen entrees are less bad than the food court, it would be better if I cooked my own meals. I'm not a bad cook per se, I just don't like to cook. I need to get over that.

4. Cut down on the pop. I haven't drank full-sugar pop for like two years, and actually prefer the taste of diet now (regular tastes *too* sweet), but all that other junk in there can't be good. I'm going through approximately a litre and a half a day - one or two of the single-serving bottles at work, plus I pour a big glass when I get home from 2L bottles I keep in stock.

5. Replace pop with water, then double the amount. At one point I was drinking like 3-4L of water a day (and running to the bathroom constantly), and it was during that time I was consistently losing weight.

6. Start up exercising again! I have had a problem with this one especially. I recently started a new job in retail, and after being on my feet all dang day, the last thing I want to do is jump around on them some more. I've gone back to doing sit-ups each night, so that's a start, but I know I need to push myself some more. I think the gym that's in the mall I work in is still taking money from my credit card for a membership, so I think I will get back in there instead of the aerobic workout dvd I have at home. Biking or spinning might be easier to handle since I'll be sitting, and then maybe get back to a little bit of muscle training?

A little about me - I'm 22 years old, and I just finished university (well, I have one more class left, it's a night course starting in July since I was short one class). I'm working retail right now, and I have the additional stress of trying to find "career" work, which is hard with a liberal arts degree and no real experience. I would hate to think I spent $40k just to work for $9 an hour. I play video games too, mostly World of Warcraft, though I like a lot of RPG-genre titles and will pick them up from time to time.

Oh, I also have a Calorie King account, and I will post the link to my CK blog as soon as I bother getting it up and running :)

Welcome to your diary, Solaani!
I hope WLF can make your weight-loss journey easier and more fun! :)

Wow this place moves fast, my journal was at the bottom of page two after less than a day! I better make some friends if I want to keep this journal near the top ;) (which makes me wonder, what is it about keeping my journal at the top of a list that seems so important?)

Anyways, entered in foods for today, plus handy analysis:

Edit: holy dang! I just copied in the URL for the diary, and the forum autoMAGICALLY gave the link a name! That is neat.

You'll make friends in no time here. Be sure to stroll around in all the good info sections like On Topic and Harsh Truth and other peoples diaries. And of course it's important to keep your diary at the top of the list. ;)
No breakfast, ha??
How'd that happen?
:)

Ehm... I woke up at 12:30pm?

I'm a total night owl, I mean, it's 2 am for me, and I'm only just barely starting to *think* about *maybe* going to bed soon. It works since usually I don't have to work until 1 or sometimes even 3pm, but it's a little harsh when I'm opening the store at 9:30.

I should probably adjust to pre-programmed diet sites by pushing back each meal one (so what others would call lunch I call my breakfast), and it's hard to figure out what "late" eating is when I go to bed six hours after all the sane people do. I think the popcorn I had at 10 or so, which was more than 4 hours ago.

I've given up on trying to eat at set times when you're 'supposed to'. who decides that anyway?? I just eat when I'm hungry and try not to munch within, say, 4 hours of going to bed. The trick is determining when I'm hungry versus when I'm just bored...

well, my set meal times aren't necessarily when the experts say I should eat, but typically when it works best with my shift. For example, today I started at 3pm, so I ate before I left for work, about 1:30ish, and then at my scheduled dinner break at 6:00. I got home by 10, and was pretty hungry, so a snack. Thinking back, I remember I actually ate my granola bar closer to 4 when I was able to steal a minute away.

Aw crap, I meant to wake up early enough to go to the gym before work, and totally slept too late :( I guess I can go after work since it's a 24 hour gym, but I hate to pass up a ride home. Heh, I'll survive having to walk a couple blocks from the nearest bus stop.

I'm pretty pumped about going back to the gym, actually. It's been far too long, and the gym has been charging my credit card twice a month so I may as well be doing something with it! Last time I got into a good gym-groove I genuinely enjoyed it, but if I didn't have a reason to be in the mall anyways, I hated leaving the house. I let the lazy days pile up until I lost my groove.

Is it better to split gym time or focus on one thing per day? I'll have about 45 minutes until I have to catch my bus (unless I want an hour and 45 to catch the next bus, which I don't so late at night), and I definitely want to get in both cardio and weight training. Should I set myself up a routine? Last time I went regularly, mostly just winged it and I'm not sure how effective that was.

Solaani I used to play WoW too :D I'm a huge gamer nerd haha

I'm not sure if this would work for you but I got myself a DDR pad and a PS2 (PS2s are so cheap now) and I just play it few times a week. It's fun and it's the only form of exercise I actually enjoy. Best of all you can do it at home so there isn't that extra hurdle of having to get to the gym.

And I know what you mean about having an art degree. I have a fine art degree myself and I'm doing another year in a more specialized program so I could make myself useful.

Good luck to you :)!

Ungggg.... so tired.... want caffeine.

Food for yesterday:

I couldn't go to the gym because it took forever to close up, so I ended up doing a 20 minute Turbo Jam ab workout when I got home... I was way too exhausted to do anything cardio, but I did sweat.

Cosmonaut, you're like a bizzaro-world version of me :p I tried to go to art school but apparently aren't as good as I thought. I keep plugging away at the occasional painting or drawing, but I don't get much inspiration lately. So I just play more WoW. The two might be related but I'm not ready to give it up yet.

Welome Solaani!!!:) I think starting up a diary is a great start! You will get some great encouragment from people on here and it is a great way to vent all of your frustrations when screaming out loud is not appropriate!! Check out the recipe section for some great ideas for cooking. I would also suggest taking one day a week like a sat or sun and cooking enough food for the rest of the week then you will have healthier foods and you avoid the food court!!

Way to go with the gym thing I hope you stick with it. Try some pilates dvds too. Even when I have had a long day and I am really tired I can do those since they are short and more relaxing then turbojam!!

I will definetely post my encouraging words to you on your diary page to help keep it at the top for you!!! Have a great weekend enjoy the weather go for a walk do something you wouldn't normally do!!! Nothing is a greater motivator than having a good day!!!

Hello ... :)

I agree with Dragon... Pilates is the best

Pilates for Dummies is excellent, works all of your body and it is only twenty minutes ... good suggestion ..
Sounds like your doing awesome!

My friend is also into WoW ...

best of luck
always

Today's food.

I got foiled AGAIN out of going to the gym! I got as far as the locker room this time (after stopping at the dollar store to pick up a new water bottle and lock) when I realized I had no pants to wear! I left them on my bedroom floor while I was rushing around this morning :( All is not lost though, I did a 40 minute turbo jam cardio party, so at least I got something in.

In a moment of weakness... I had some stuffed-crust pizza for dinner :( That's like 1000 calories there (two little pieces and a regular one I figure rounds out to 2.5 "standard" 1/8 pieces).

Oh lord, it was delicious though. Thankfully my breakfast was barely 250 calories (two poached eggs with a teeny bit of bacon and cheese on top and two slices toast with margarine) so I haven't completely shot today, even if I am over on my fat.

Today is my day off and I am so excited to have the whole weekend off! I was surprised to get sunday off last week, and now saturday and sunday?? I think it's been like three months since I got *any* weekend time off, because it's so busy on the weekend, and we've been terribly short staffed until lately (we still are but it's not dire anymore). It's quarter to six and I'm still in my jammies!! Am I going to get dressed? NOPE.

I will be turbo jamming later tonight though. I want to do the "sculpt" but I need 2-4 lb weights, which I don't have. Is there a good substitute I can use? I see that one of the girls does it without weights, but I'm pretty sure that's for super-beginners with very little muscle mass, and I'd like to think I'm at least moderately strong considering the lifting I have to do on stock days (up to about 30lbs at a time).

I had such a great idea for a motivation program, but I can't do it right now :(

I was going to put $10 in a jar for every pound that I lose, and then by the time I got to my goal, I'd be able to get a Nintendo Wii. It's pretty managable, right? But realistically, I need that 200 smackers for dept payments. If I can pay off about $4k before November then I can say I graduated DEBT FREE. That seems to be a bit more important, and I'm rather proud of the fact that I have so little debt in the first place (about 2k of that 4 is really just credit cards), without having to rely on anyone but myself. My parents couldn't chip in, I have never qualified for any bursaries, and I'm just personally aversive to loans (the one was because of unfortunate and necessary computer replacement the same time tuition was due, and I haven't been able to get enough surplus to get rid of it).

I'll get that Wii someday!!

You know a great incentive is instead of putting in 10 for evey pound you lose make a goal of say 5 pounds and when you reach your goal treat yourself with someting new like a book, a cd, a dvd, or even a new outfit. But until you reach your goal DON'T buy yourself anything like that. If there is something you are really looking forward to purchasing then in makes it a great incentive. I have done this reward system for myself and I think it works great! It also can save you some money if it takes awhile to reach your goal:eek: . Anyways just a bit of a tip! Try going to the gym again!!;)

Arg... I had my post almost finished and then I hit the side-button on my mouse which makes the browser go back a page and I lost it! Stupid six-button mouse... Let's see if I can remember all of it.

I like your idea, Dragonlover, though I think I'll use DVDs as my rewards. I haven't bought a CD in forever, and just don't have much time to read these days (I'll be *making* time when the Harry Potter book comes out, but that's not for another month). My DVD to-buy list is as long as my arm!

Yesterday's food: Didn't get a chance to do any exercising, at least not any that I'd post about on a public journal ;) I still had a few calories to spare though so I am not too worried about it. I've got a good start on today, had a toasted peanut butter and banana sandwich for "breakfast". It is very small bread, so I only needed half a banana to fill it up.

Non-diet news: I sent off two more job applications today. One for "Policy And Legislative Analyst" and another as a " Strategic Business Planning Intern." They're both jobs with the provincial government, and either would be a good fit for a sociology degree, especially since I've had a lot of course work dealing with research and stats analysis. I'll cross my fingers, but not too hard, I'm starting to lose hope. Even the intern positions I've been applying for haven't been calling me, and by definition you don't need experience for those! Maybe my resume isn't that good even after the writing workshops I've taken, and I should just pay someone to write it for me. Bleh, like I can afford that. It's just too bad that businesses never follow up on candidates they aren't considering to let them know why. I would certainly love to know what I'm doing wrong.

Well, I've got some tidying up to do before I get to do anything fun today, so I best get on that.

*yawn* good morning, everyone. As good as mornings get for me anyways. I managed to get out of bed after only two snooze-button smashings. The weekend we enjoyable and delightfully unproductive, but now I must go back to work.

I have double checked that I have EVERYTHING needed to get to the gym (pants included), and I have NO EXCUSE for not going after work today. My husband was so nice to get up to make me breakfast this morning :) He has to be up anyways to go looking for a job himself, so it's all good.

Hum, weather thingee on my browser says its only getting up to 15C today and rainy... seems like the rain never stops this summer, good thing I found my umbrella.
