So, What do you eat???

OK, I am new to this forum and I am ready to get rid of this gut of mine.

I have read in several places that you should be eating 6 meals a day - or 6 times a day that is. So, I am curious as to what exactly are you eating?

I am looking for specific items, not just nutritional stuff.

Describe to me what your 6 time a day eating routine is.

I am actually very proud of myself right now. There are a dozen doughneuts sitting on our breakroom table just waiting for me to take one - but NOPE, I am sitting here eating a Golden Delicious apple and feeling good about it..

So post up and give a new guy something to look for in the grocery store

OH yes i have a question are homemade mashed potatoes bad for you?

Hmmm....it depends on whether I REMEMBER to eat six times a day. Sometimes I forget...no, scratch that, often I forget to eat 6 times a day.

Breakfast: yogurt/and/or fruit/and/or a bowl of cereal (mom just got some cornflakes)
snack: fruit/yogurt
lunch: well, we had smoked sausages in there, so I'd usually cook one for lunch, a baked potato, and some corn and peas. Today I had two tacos (leftovers from dinner, last night)
snack: fruit/yogurt
dinner: whatever mom cooks, and small portions. If mum doesn't cook, I'll rumage to put together a meal for myself (like chicken with lots of spices and a potato, and some veggies)
snack: fruit/yogurt

we do veggie tacos a lot, manderus - veggie beef in taco shells with lettuce and salsa. and some black beans on the side - yum! :)

ok, my diet:

breakfast: cereal (special k, muesilix, honey bunches of oats, etc) with fat free milk.

lunch: cereal again.

dinner: shrimp stirfry, rice. or grilled or fried fish and steamed veggies, etc.

snacks: fruit - apple, orange, grapefruit or banana. man i'm sick of bananas though, LOL!

Thanks for all the input - I have been trying to come up with new meals to eat and nothing "healthy" sounded good to me.

Here is what my normal diet DID look like:
B'fast: a sausage biscuit and a chicken biscuit from MickeyDs and a medium coke

Mid morning snack - little debbie snack cake of some kind

Lunch: BBQ samich, big bag of chips, coke and some kind of sweet

Afternoon snack: another little debbis of some kind

Supper: whatever the wife cooked

Latenight snack: a brownie or a bowl of sugary cereal

Now here is menu for today:

B'Fast: (running late) french toast sticks and a chicken biscuit from B'King (I only ate the chicked from the biscuit - not the bread) and I used very little syrup and I drank orange juice with it

Water

Lunch: left over spaghetti (only a small serving) and a small salad with just a touch of 1000 island dressing and a Big Capri Sun Cherry fruit drink

Water

Afternoon snack: a golden delicious apple and water

Supper: hamburger patty cooked on the George Foreman. Add a slice of cheese and some ketchup - no bread. Another small salad and a glass of sweet tea.

Water

Late Night snack: banana

Does this sound like I am on a better track than before?

Thanks for any and all tips/tricks/advice

You gotta get rid of that Micky D and B King stuff. Eat whole grain cereal, try and avoid the cold cereal kind. Oats are great, personally I don't like them much so I get multi-grain stuff from a grainery or feed store (that's right, eatin with the cows), it's cheaper too.

That pasta in the spaghetti is terrible for you. Use a wheat pasta instead if you've got to have pasta. The spaghetti sauce is great on steamed veggies also.

Get some eggs in that diet.

Try natty peanut butter for a condiment (I use it in my multi-grain cereal), my wife also makes killer PB cookies out of it (1 cup PB, 1 cup Splenda, 1 egg).

Also, get that wife of yours to buy a low carb cook book (turns out it's low fat also). The meals are excellent and very flavorful. My wife was not very excited about cooking from that book but she is now in love with the recipe's.

Meal 1: 3oz.grilled chicken; 1/2cup oatmeal w/ 1/2cup blueberries

Meal 2: 1/2can tuna w/ red onion, celery, and lemon juice; 1T natty PB

Meal 3 (post work-out): whey protein powder; 1 steamed sweet potato w/ 1/2cup organic unsweetened applesauce

Meal 4: 3oz.grilled chicken; 1/2cup oatmeal plain

Meal 5: 3oz.grilled chicken OR 1/2can tuna; 2cups green veggies cooked w/ 1/2T olive oil

Meal 6: 3 oz.grilled chicken; 1ounce walnuts; 1/2cup raspberries

Meal 7 (if I'm up past 8pm for some reason and get hungry): protein pancake - whey protein w/ water, then spread w/ 1T natty PB

maderus, if you want mashed potatoes. make sweet potatoe mashed potatoes. they are so freakin good. especially with cinammon, and artificial sweetener.

My turn (depends on the day).

Meal one
1 1/2 cups of mini wheats (grainy)
1 1/2 cups of milk (one tall glass)
1 1/2 cup orange juice or tea (or none)

Meal two (lunch)
Chicken sandwich (I use to eat turkey on rye / white but it's gone now...)
10oz water

Workout
~30oz of additional water
20oz Gatorade (after workout)

Snack (if time allows)
Oranges (one or two) Or some other fruit

Meal three (dinner)
Meat (chicken, beef, maybe sausage, maybe pizza {1 week max})
1 1/2 Orange Juice

In between during homework and what not
3-4 cups of tea

Snack (2hr before sleep)
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 1/2 cups of some cold cereal

And sleep.

hmmm, manderus, it may be just me, but...especialy if your doing any activity, it looks like your not getting enough calories. but i could be wrong, depending on your dinner. a steak and a potatoe is a pretty decent sized meal. but i dont like to critique peoples diets ;) for the simple reason i dont like to mess people up, cause im not sure.

I've never eaten Kashi, but I know it's loaded with fibre and protein, and low in sugar, so I think it's a good choice. However, ditch the Special K - not nearly enough protein or fibre.

I don't think you're eating enough for lunch, unless it's a grilled chicken salad or something else with good protein. For the body to absorb the nutrients from vegetables, you need to consume fat with them. The vitamins & minerals in veggies are mostly fat-soluble, so I would replace the FF dressing with either low-fat, or a small amount of full-fat dressing.

I think you should do your best to squeeze in another meal while at school. Do you have a study hall where you can eat something? Just brown-bag it and have a quick meal.

Include a source of protein with your after-school snack - a piece of fruit or pretzels isn't going to tide you over too well. And I know how you love your pretzels, but you're better off w/o them.

Don't ever eat those frozen entrees - they're full of preservatives, added sugars, and other hidden things you probably don't want to even know you've eaten. Throw them all away; never eat them again. Baked potatoes are fine for you, especially post work-out. Just be sure you're not topping them with bacon, cheese, sour cream, butter, etc. Perhaps you'll learn to like sweet potatoes? They are much, much better for you and taste super-good with some applesauce spooned over them.

Mashed potatoes are made with a lot of butter and milk/cream. They should not be included in a diet set-up for fat loss.

Spock, thanks! I eat ham on my salad at lunch. But anyways today i did bring a little snack in and ate it around 2:30 it was kashi cereal and special k mixed. Do ya think thats okay? Because i do love my Special K Cereal, i dont know what i would do without it. I'll try my hardest to elminate the pretzels. But what do u recommend to take for an extra snack at school because i dont have study halls and the only time i could eat it would be 8th and 9th period and thats right at the end of the day. I dont wanna go home and snack on something right after that.
OH yes how bout those bags of vegtables and chicken, are they okay for you? They are really good tastin ; ). But if u want can you fill me in on what i should take to lunch maybe instead of a sald or do u think i should keep eating the salad, apple, and pickled egg?
