So THIS is what losing the weight of a small child looks like!

I posted my starting and progress pictures in my journal but figured I'd post here as well. I know for myself I am always curious about what a drop in a certain number of pounds looks like so am always looking thru other people's photos for inspiration, so I figured I could at least do the same.

I am 5' 5" tall. Left side was me at 185.8 lbs on 03/01/2010 when I decided to make some changes in my life. Right side is me at 155.4 lbs on 07/01/2010. So basicly this is what a 30 lb loss looks like. That's the size of one of my 3 year old twins!

You have done soooo well! Amazing!

Keep up the great work! You should be sooo proud of yourself!

You're looking good! Your collar bone/upper arm area has really improved (along with the rest of your body), and it looks like your boobs are much perkier too! :p

I didn't even notice that my collar bones where now showing until someone just pointed it out to me!

And as for the boobs - I don't know that they are any perkier, but they are definately smaller. I think it's funny that as a pre-teen I hoped/prayed/wished for them to grow, now I do the same for them to shrink! Just goes to show you should always be careful what you wish for!

For the first 20 lbs or so that I lost I did it mostly thru changing my diet. I sit all day behind a computer at work, and wasn't very active at home beyond the usual housekeeping activites. The changes I made in my diet where to swap out brown for white processed foods (like bread, rice, pasta) and increase the number of veggies I was eating. I began measuring everything because what I thought was a serving was WAY off, so now I'm eating smaller amounts than I used to. I also made a rule that I would NOT eat something unless I knew exactly how many calories were in it. If it was something I really wanted, then I had to cut something else out somewhere else. I tried to eat only 1000 to 1200 calories per day.

In the last month and a half to 2 months I've started to exercise 5 days a week. I do maybe half an hour of cardio 3 days a week (either low impact step aerobics or running - though I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up with the running as it's been a bit hard on my knees), and lift weights for half an hour or so on the other 2 days of the week. I take 2 rest days mixed in with those other days to let my muscles heal.

Since I've started exercising my weight loss has slowed down somewhat but I think that's because I'm gaining muscle weight. The inches are still slowly decreasing when I measure myself. The number of calories I eat per day is still around 1200, but I'm not so concerned with going a little over now that I am exercising more.

Oh wow! Looking hot mama! I'm so jealous - I just hit my 30 pound mark and it's completely unnoticeable. Basically at my size I will have to drop 100 pounds before anyone could see a difference.

You lucky girl! lol :) You're seriously looking hot!

You look great - congrats! Your arms look amazing... what a difference! Just a thought... you might not be losing weight because you are working so much and you're not eating enough calories. You should find out your BMR and try to hit that number of calories every day. There is a BMR calculator on the fitness.com home page. All you have to enter is your age, height, and weight. 1,200 cals/day is really the very least you should be having so if you're working out as much as you are you should definitely be getting more calories in! Keep up the good work :)

Thanks Skkroll - I'm going to try increasing my cals a little bit and see what happens. I think I'm not getting enough sleep lately either, which I'm sure doesn't help.

I had used fitday a while ago to figure out what my maintenance cals should be and what a good deficit would be to lose around 2 lbs a week and at that time it told me to eat 1200 cals a day. But I should probably redo it because back then I wasn't exercising at all - just sitting at a computer all day working, then sitting around home relaxing for a few hours in the evenings. Now that I actually work out those numbers are probably now too low.

Boy, this balancing act is sure tricky!

Boy, this balancing act is sure tricky!

As they say - "That ain't no joke!"

It's true, the balancing act is a pain in the tush and it takes a lot of time to figure up the proper calories to go with current weight to go with current exercise levels etc. If it isn't balanced right then you end up losing too fast and that isn't good for your body or heart and also doesn't give your skin the time to "bounce back", or, on the other side of it, you lose too slowly and/or stall out completely and there is no weight loss at all. It took me weeks to figure out the right balance and even still I have to keep reconfiguring it every time I drop more weight and/or increase my exercise levels. :banghead:

But in the end it's worth it once the weight starts coming off at a fairly steady pace (but not too fast) and you're feeling lighter and have more energy etc. It's just a constant balancing game until goal weight, and even then you have to remain vigilant for the rest of your life to make sure the weight doesn't creep back on.

How often do you recalculate where your calorie cut off should be? Every 5 lbs? What about increases in activity?

I recalculate every 5-10 pounds and/or if the weight loss starts to slow or stops for more than 2 weeks. As for the activity level, I increase that once I feel my exercise routine is getting too "easy" for me. If your body isn't challenged you aren't going to achieve much progress. And then of course I adjust my daily calorie goals to accommodate the amount of fuel I need for the workouts. Most doctors recommend not dropping below 1,200 calories a day.

Keep in mind that what works for one person may not work for another. But it looks like you've lost 30 pounds already so whatever you are doing must be working. lol :)

I'm curious - What have you been doing so far to drop the 30 pounds? I always love hearing what other people are doing to achieve their goals.

Thank you so much! I find people's pictures and stories on this site very inspiring as well, so figured the least I could do was share mine as well.

Hehehe... Reminds me of kids who say I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

Stacy - I posted earlier in the thread what I've been doing to lose weight. While the number of pounds I lose a week has slowed way down since I've started exercising, I think the difference is more apparent because my body is getting more toned. When I first got married I weighed 107 lbs, but looking back at pictures I think I was too skinny. I had no muscle tone at all - just skin and bones. I think after I finish losing another 20 lbs or so I'll look healthier than I did when I was skinnier because I'll have a few muscles under my skin. At least that's my hope!
