Skinny Guy new on weight training!

Hi all, I've started going to the gym about a month. Im basically the skinny guy... not horrible skinny, but... skinny still. The trainer at the gym gave a routine to give me strenght (3 series of 8 reps and 2 reps more with a lot of weight). Now this week she has changed my routine to a more exhausting one (3 series of 2 reps with 80 % of the weight I can lift, then 2 series of 2 reps with 90 % of the weight I can lift, and then with 70% the weight until I reach exhaustion, when my arms start getting really tired).
Now I have already seen some changes (especially on my back, which is more wide), but I wanted to know how much time does it take to stop being the skinny guy? I dont mean huge or anything, but to look really good? I eat pretty good and a lot, so I dont think that is the problem.
I was thinking it would take6 months or a year, but I really dont have a clue.
I also was playing with the idea of taking creatine, what do you guys think?
Ok thanks in advance!! :D

depends on many factors. it took me 3 years to go from 125lbs with 12" arms to 180lbs with 15" arms.

creatine is fine. results can be made without so its not totally needed. concentrate on basic movements, good food and plenty of rest b/w workouts. :)

Its tough being skinny, I was 22 6 feet and 110 pounds when I started in the gym, incredible metabolism I would eat and eat and nothing just burn right off. It took me about 4 years to get to 170 and at 32 I am 174 pounds. Funny thing is sometimes I still feel skinny lol... but I know I am not.

I never went the creatine way, I did go through periods of protein powder to try to get some weight gain. It will come, just dont get frustrated with it, usually others see your improvements before you do. I stuck to doing 3 sets of exercises focusing around 8-12 reps, that got me some form then I started working on the heavier aspects to increase the size... dont over do it, you dont want your arms screaming in pain when you done, nothing wrong with a burn, I know I over did it when I was younger and am probably paying for it a bit these days. Listen to Abear, good food, lots of rest, lots of water got to keep hydrated and form, its not always how much you can lift but how you lift it. Good form and lighter weights is much better than bad form and heavy weights. My two cents
Good luck

I'm not a skinny guy actually I gain weight by watching commercials, anyway just to add to the comments already mentioned:

See if your trainer can teach you Deadlifts, and Squats. I'd bet you've already started benching (These are basic compound movements, which add mass). I hope I'm wrong and she's already started spreading the good news of The Big 3.

It takes awhile to achieve your goals so stay strong and motivated. Been a lifetime for me already :)
