Should I stop Dieting???

Last year just before Christmas I was 241 pounds and I was quite fat. Now I am 190 lbs on the button. Im 5'11" tall. I notice that I do have a little bit of fat left on me especially on my stomach and love handles. However, when telling other body builders I wanted to get down to 180 lbs, they said it was a horrible idea and I should focus on lifting and building muscle and the fat will come off "with time." Now when I say im not going to diet anymore I simply mean that im going to eat a decent amount of food which would be considered a normal amount. I was keeping my caloric intake @ around 1300 calories a day to lose the weight along with a lot of cardio. I was wondering if I should take their advice and simply come off of my diet a little bit (not over-eat) and do a lot of ab workouts and regular weight lifting like I am currently doing. Will this fat on my stomach and love handles come off and if so about how long will it take? The frame of my body is quite large. I have a big bone bone structure. Thanks for all your future help! I forgot to mention I will be 19 years old in 3 weeks. -Jeff

Congrats on loosing 51lbs! Thats awsome! Personally I think you should just stick with what your doing, unless you dont like it. You shouldnt have to starve yourself to lose weight. It also sounds like youve gotten yourself into a good workout routine, with cardio. Keep on doing it. Just dont slip back into old habits.

Dont stop "dieting." Learn how to eat healty and control caloric intake. The builders are half right- you need to maintain muscle mass to get rid of the fat. For your weight, 1300 cals is waaay to low. Jump start the metabolism and maintain (maybe even build) your muscle mass by jumping up your calories a bit- prolly 2200-2500. Then you can add/subtract around 200-300 cals every couple of weeks to fluxuate the metabolism and drop the fat whilst keeping muscle. If you contsantly stay at 1300 cals, your body will start to store MORE fat due to starvation mode.
Good luck.
