Should I add weight training yet?

I am 5'9 1/2" and weigh 140lbs. I have recently lost 30 lbs. through diet and exercise; tae-bo mostly, with resistance bands and walking my dogs. I am toned from the resistance bands, but want to get more cut and add muscle. My goal weight is 135, and then I want to add 5 lbs of muscle to get back up to 140. Here's the question: Should I keep doing what I am doing until I get to 135 and then start lifting? Or, should I start lifting now and just replace the fat with muscle? Also, is a gain of 5 lbs of muscle unrealistic for a girl and how can I measure my gain? Thanks and I hope I'm not asking q's that have already been answered!

Well since you haven't been incorporating a lifting program already I say add it now, you should gain a little muscle from the beginner aspect of things. See if that gives you the definition/muscle gain you are after. Then if after cutting/lifting you find you still want some extra then start on a slow bulking program.

As far as what kind of program to use I would start off with a pre-made program (read some of the sticky threads at the top of the forum) or get with a GOOD personal trainer to help you develop a program. A 3x a week full body program with heavy compound exercises should be the focus. If you want to maintain good muscle length focus on good stretching after training.
