First off, I'm 16, about 5'10'' 180lbs, I want to get to 160-165lbs.

I just signed up for the YMCA, it's about 2.5miles from where I live. Was planning on walking all of it, there and back, and spending about 2-3 hours swimming and lifting weights. Can I do this every weekday without burning myself out ? I eat right and I'm on a good sleep schedule. Btw I usually jog a mile in the mornings on weekends, can I still do that?

hmmm well you can cut back on some of the cardio since your walking there and back, swimming and jogging id say give your self at least one day off from cardio, you cant cut back on the walking since you have too to get there and back maybe drop some of the jogging or swimming.

as for weights was is it your doing?what kind of split do you have?
you could look quite diffrent, depending on what it it your trying to do at the gym.(sorry if im wrong or if you said it some where else but im thinking your a guy right?)
so what are your trying to do at the gym? is weight loss all your going for or are you trying to add some lean body mass as well?
sorry for all the Q.s :)

I'm not very interested in actually putting on muscle but I know that as I'm losing fat I'm also burning muscle so I was planning on lifting some weights to build them back up as I lose the fat.

id still drop some of the cardio,i think its a little too much on your body to do it every day. lifting weights is one of the best ways to raise your metabolism and burn more calories per lb as you add lean muscle mass to your body(not talking extreem bodybuilder or anything just a nice modest amount other wise known as muscle "tone" :D ).

That's a lot of exercise. So you would be walking 5 miles, swimming, and lifting weights every weekday and then jogging a mile on the weekends. The 3 hours swimming seems like a lot, swimming is extremely tiring (I think you burn like 800 calories an hour), you probably don't need to do more than an hour. And also if you're going to lift weights you should rest for at least a day afterwards to allow your muscles to rebuild themselves after you tear them down by lifting weights.

As for how different you will look: try this site

You can put in your height and weight, haircolor and general appearance and it will give you 360 degree views. It's pretty neat!

Just to be clear, you can lift weights everyday as long as your doing diffrent body parts. just depends on your split, but i wouldnt do full body every day or even every other day espescially if your lifting heavy. :) (sorry just had to clarify :) but i do agree all the exercise is overkill, and im gonna check out that site sounds pretty cool ;)

Yeah.. sometimes when people start off, they get a bit too enthusiatic about it. So if you are very dedicated to your plan, then you could do it, but walking 2.5 miles then doing another 2-3 hours of workouts every weekday seems like a lot. I would agree with smiley and cut down the cardio, I think you would get too bored or tired (whichever comes first) to last that long.

you should read my post we are both 5"10 girls with similar problems. You sound like me when I was younger trying to lose weight. Yes you will look different if you lose weight and your plan seems right but in order to not burn your self out you need to take one day off every week and relax. and remember to stretch out before and after work out and before you go to sleep. It helps me out a lot, and all you need is motivation to actually go out and and work out.

Simple answer? No. You cannot do this every day w/out burning yourself out - both mentally and physically.

30 mins to an hour of exercise is the MOST you need to be doing. If you're lifting weights properly (and I mean proper, heavy, compound muscle group lifting, not sissy-5lb-agazillion reps lifting), you should wait 48 hours between each time before you lift agian.

IMO, an ideal workout schedule would be this:

- proper weight lifting 3x per week - to include things like squats, lunges, presses, rows, lat pulls, and then a round of bodyweight exercises to include pushups, either chinups or pullups, and dips. A good set of weights should take 20-40 minutes, depending on your rest intervals.
- 30 mins of cardio (a combination of interval training techniques) on alternate days to help increase calorie burn.
- one day a week where you do low intensity stretching type exercises - yoga, mat pilates, or some combination of the two to help with flexibility and muscle tone.
- a one day a week break where you do no formal, structured exercise and give your body a full day off.

Any more than that and you're risking putting yourself in a position where, if you don't accomplish your 3 hours per day or whatever, you'll feel like you've failed and you'll give up.
