yea, working on that. Wanted to get all the posts (mostly spam) figured out and then start working on the images.

Hi Sarah - glad you are back & how about this new format for the forum?...I don't like change either- but will get used to it...
Your pic in the new dress/belt/boots - amazing ! U are now the slim-chick you have worked so hard to be. And the 55 resting heart-rate is proof that your inside is just as healthy and fit as your outside now looks ! terrific gal. :hurray: ~ so fun that you don't even match your passport photo anymore...I'll be needing a new one this summer - there's another goal for me - lose a bit more for that passport pic this summer...
I hear you on the jet-lag after travel - my week back was tuff too - not as much time-zone difference as you had, but coming from sunshine & 25c to snow, overcast and -20C....been hard - am glad I've had some days off before back to work.
Glad to hear you can firm-up , even at our age, means there's hope for me too ...lol...
Keep on with your stair-climb work- it will be Marathon time before U know it.
cheers, Maryann C. View attachment 19265

Greetings all, and thanks MaryAnne for your encouragement! I've been MIA for this past couple of weeks..work has been really stressful and overloaded. I'm leaving in a few hours to go to the US again for work, and it's just been crazy trying to "get it all done" before I leave. I know it will never happen, but my brain tells me I can so it pushes my body sometimes to the brink! As I write this it's 3.35am and my alarm will go off in about 1.5 hours! I need a break!
Eating: I've been "cutting back" in my evening food this past week..to try to jumpstart my weightloss again and get these "last" pounds off. I know I'm getting fitter.., and that's what really counts!
Exercise: I have signed up for a 5k race on Saturday when I get to the US...I just hope my travels cooperate to get me there on time! (obviously not just because of a 5k race!). I'm on schedule for my marathon train-up...it will be a challenge to keep the schedule over the next 2 weeks...but I'm motivated to find a way!
Motivation: Sometimes it wanes a little...I've got a new wardrobe now and all my clothes fit...it used to be that as soon as they fit, I was working my butt off to make them loose..now, I'm still working my butt off, and they are getting looser, but it takes such a long time compared to where I started. I continue to get very nice compliments about my weightloss at social functions where I've see people maybe once or twice a year and that feels great...I'm finally learning to accept a compliment (well, most of the time!)

That about covers it for me!
Good choices to you all!!

Sarah

Hi Sarah , 3:35 AM & NO Sleep....eeek - don't fret about the workload stress - I am certain U R in your job because U are so capable to get the workload done & deal well with the pressure - U will get it done... now go have a nice warm cup of tea , think some happy non-work thoughts...and U will be snoozin' before U know it !
View attachment 19312

Good plan on cutting-back on the evening food to kick-up the wt loss a bit - I remember in your diary that you said you skipped supper sometimes when you first started...it seemed to really speed your loss- ...good idea to go with what U know works for U- just don't push too hard - as you remind all of us- it is a Journey...not a Race...and speaking of races..good luck to U for the 5K on Saturday....great motivation for exercise - to committ to a run.... and glad you are on-track with your GreatWall marathon training - it will be here so soon...

A new wardrobe - so fun ! ... I know how happy I am each time I put-on my new smaller-size pants for work...I can just imagine how good a whole new set of smaller clothes must feel ! Enjoy it Sarah - U have worked so hard for so many many months - U deserve- take some credit - benefit well earned !

Hope your travels are safe, work goes well, success for your 5K ...and enjoy the upcoming Xmas season....I will be making healthy choices right along with U - saying no thanks to the baking & YES please to the oranges & nuts....

Happy Season gal,
cheers Maryann View attachment 19314

Thanks Mayanne! What a nice post in my diary! So positive and encouraging...I needed that tonight! I just arrived in the US last night, and now I'm dealing with jet lag on this side of the pond,,, argh! I will be glad when that wears off (of course I'm not helping staying on the computer!).
I ran a 5k this morning, and did it in 27:10!! Pretty pumped about that, and it was a "moderately hilly" course! I told myself, the hills are fun, and I could gain time there,,,not sure I did, but it did help me cruise through!
After tha, I went shopping and fit easily into a 14petit...now I've really never been petite in anything, but I did notice that the length was dood(I must be shrinking!) I would have liked to be in a smaller size by now, but I am where I am, and feeling good when I look in the mirror, so I guess I shouldn't complain! I also went to the grocery store and got some fruit, nuts and water to put in my hotel room. For the first time today, I also bought 1 bar of 90% dark chocolate...yes chocolate. I havnt opened it,,, I did the math, and it's not too many calories and I know that from a nutrition stand point, it's actually good for me...just not sure I want to cross over that line...any thoughts out there?

Good choices to all!

Sarah

Hi Sarah, My suggestion would be a once a week only treat. If you can't stop at a little then it's another lesson learned. As I have said before Sarah- you are a smart cookie & will know if it's risky. If you're counting cals & not missing out on good nutritious food then once a week should be fine as a treat. You are so in control & should still be able to manage a little good quality chocolate as a regimented treat. Perhaps before or after a run? You're a credit to yourself & a continual inspiration for many & you will work it out xoxo Cate

Hi Sarah - welcome back to the Western world gal !... at least you are in the same time-zone for a bit with us North americans... lol. View attachment 19330

Hope the JetLag settles soon....I remember a trip a few years back with hubby- we had just arrived in London-and thought it would be good to "jump right in" to their time-zone...so we didn't nap- just checked into hotel-then off to the British Nat.Hsty museum- amazing museum...but I was soooo tired- almost fell-asleep leaning on a display case.... too funny - try to keep hydrated, and sneak in a nap here & there...that seems to help me...

Woo hoo !! congrats on the 27:10 time for 5K !! U are getting so fit young lady...that GreatWall will be no problem eh?....what a great way to start your time in US with a 5K run.... set a good healthy-theme for your trip ! View attachment 19331

Yay on the 14p clothes !! ... and be patient grasshopper with getting to your "goal" size...as U tell us...it's a JOURNEY....I also am finding some of my pants seem "longer" these days...hope it's not middle-age "height-loss".... try to think of it as less stretch-thru the middle-(ie.smaller tummy/less butt-/skinnier - so the fabric can hang straighter down?... lol...at any rate- congrat's on smaller size...

Healthy eats for your room - good strategy :hurray: ...knowing you have nice fresh fruit, nuts, and water waiting in your room ( and maybe tuck a couple and take with you when you go out) - will help reduce temptation/risk for the high-cal stuff all round U ! ... & on the dark-choc- I agree with Cate's take on this also...it' is OK as an occasional treat - just watch your serving size - I do eat dark-choc myself - I buy 72% dark ( Costco)-comes in little individual wrapped squares- about 7g (3/4" x 1.5" ) - (about the size of your thumb-tip ) each are about 30cals. - I keep the bag in my kitchen & a few tucked in my desk-drawer at work - the dark choc. is pretty intense flavour - so usually 1 square is all ya need to curb a craving - ... I do treat myself to 1 square when I get a hunger-pang...and don't have time to make a snak...and sometimes just as a quick treat - but I don't have more than 2 in any one day....they are enjoyable- but fairly bitter - so not so wonderful that I am tempted to have more - but they do satisfy.

Hope U have the chance to enjoy some NorthAmerican Xmas while U are over-here Sarah - ! shopping, concerts, movies, the music and decorations everywhere, .... and if U are looking for some "mind candY"..(books) on healthy eats and weight loss while U are here - 2 of my favorites - The Rotation Diet -M.Kathan ( is a diet book - but also has some good chapters on the author's own history with weight issues, some of his reader's experiences, and maintenance supports and approaches), The End of Overeating-David A. Kessler -excellent book - author served as commissioner of US FDA-, pediatrician, Dean at Yale/UofC Medical schools, Harvard grad - very insightful - regarding NorthAmerican diet, food "design", food addiction physiology - ...I am still working thru this one - but also great read and learning.

A couple on-line clips you might also enjoy while here - ( titled: 23 & 1/2 hours- What is the single best thing we can do our health-Dr.Mike Evans...it's a cute 9 minute clip- physician - health benefits of exercise - bit of preaching to the choir -but one of my favorites- keep on course reminders) and you might also like - Eat to Save Your LIfe - Jamie Oliver-Utube ... I haven't watched this one yet- just wrote down the ref- maybe I'll check it out today...

anway - Enjoy US at Xmas time, but balance the indulge(s) with exercise & those fresh-fruits & nuts !!
cheers Sarah & Happy Holidays,

Maryann

Good morning one and all and Merry Christmas! My last day in the USA for awhile, and it's been so very nice...short, but nice! Eating has not been so great, but have managed to keep my exercise goals intact. Just finished a 5 mile run this morning before going to a big holiday luncheon! It's amazing to me how the holiday meals do not have any fresh fruit for desert :-/... But, I do manage to get by the sweets without tipping over (carbs and fats...well, that's another story)
I do feel good and my husband says I look good, and so does my family, so that's always good reinforcement! The hotel breakfasts have been a challenge...seems lots of high carb and processed foods...most days, I have my fruits and nuts from the grocery, today, I had oatmeal fruit and some hard boiled eggs (not my favorite, but better than "factory eggs')!
Tomorrow, we fly back to China, 28 hrs of travel with lots of airplane food...I will be glad to get back to my routine, my fitness center and my bed! I have loved seeing family and friends, but ready to go back too!
So, all, as we face the new year, lets all get re-energized, and refocused, and make the month of January our friend...and lose those 3 pounds/month and reach our goals!! We can do it!! A we've got a head start on all the resolution setters!
Good choices to all!

Sarah

Hey Sarah - glad your Xmas in USA was nice & good work on keeping up the exercise thru the holidays.

Hope your trip back to China is ok.

& yes - here's to a Re-Newed Energy for 2013 ! - we CAN do IT !

Greetings all!
I am back in China now, and trying to get over jet lag. I didn't sleep much last night, but at least I got up this morning to do 65 min on the elliptical, and then went to work to turn in my passport to get our visas renewed before our vacation trip about 4 weeks from now! It's paid for, and all the travel arrangements are made...now for the weather to cooperate... But that is a few weeks away...lots of work to get done before that...including getting serious and strict on my weightloss journey!
I haven weighed sice I got back..going to do that tomorrow. My husband jumped on the scale and told me the battery must be low because it didn't do anything when he got on...so I'll have to get hat corrected to start the new year off fresh and new!
I had a good familiar breakfast and lunch today..a good start to getting back to my healthy routine...amazing how much of a creature of habit I have become...sometimes I start to really feel like my father with my circle getting smaller and smaller...hmmm. Going to have to work on that... Don't want to get old before my time!
One of the things I want to work on this weekend is my weightloss and fitness goals and rewrite them to start off the new year. I will post hem here to have some public accountability (part of the real power of this site)
Well, my friends, have a great weekend, and make good choices today...that's really all we have is today!
Sarah

Hey Sarah - welcome back chickie !

Good work on getting back on eliptical 65mins.(despite the jet-lag- )....that took some determination.

Good work on healthy brekkie & lunch -

Funny U talk about healthy becoming "habit".... me too.... I am finding the healthy choices are now becoming "routine".... my whole-grain toast with a cheese slice brkfst is almost "mindless" to prepare each morning now... and a day without my treadmill is like a day without sunshine.... lol.

Hey Thanks Mary Anne! It's good to be back...not recovered from jetlag yet, and I may have picked up a stomach bug along the way as I spent a good part of yesterday in the bathroom...ugghh! I tried to do my "long run" on the treadmill...but pooped out early and felt like I was sweating more than normal, so I took a break, and then didn't sleep much last night either.
I did weigh in this morning after I changed the batteries yesterday and found that I am almost exactly the same as I was before I left...174.4 pounds. Of course I would like to be less, but I'm OK with that weight today. I am wearing a size 12 US pants now (or size 14p or size 12 curvy..seems like every clothing line has their own standard these days!). My husband bought me a button-up shirt for Christmas and it was size 10..and it fit me like a glove! So, I just just keep on doing what I've been doing, and keeping up on the exercise and I'll get down where I want to be eventually...eventually takes a long time some times!
Today, I will work on my goals for 2013 and get them here.
Good choices to all!

Sarah

it is not just differences in size standards between companies but also between countries.

get over your jet lag, and let stomach bug settle before you push to fully get back into routine :)

Here are my goals for 2013:

Weightloss Goals:
Long term: weigh 143 and be in the "normal" (~23) category on BMI and "green" (less than 30%) on %bodyfat by Dec 2013.

I will do this by following these simple rules:
1. Keeping track of my calories on myfitnesspal.com and not going under my BMR (whatever it is at the time I check my weight)
2. No processed sugars
3. Lo carbs
4. No sodas (diet or regular)
5. Exercise every day, for at least 30 min (60 min preferable)
6. write in the http://weight-loss.fitness.com weightloss and fitness weightloss diary to keep myself honest
7. Eat 2 meals and 3 snacks per day, stay Bellamy daily calorie goal

Medium term goal: weigh 163 (3 pounds less than it would take. To be in the US Army weight standards)

Progress reports:
Continue to measure progress by:
- measurements:(bust, waist and hips)
- Numbers on the scale
- clothing sizes.

Motivation:
How: listen to the following podcasts:
- fat2fitradio.com
- Dishing up nutrition
- Extra mile Galloway edition
- People's pharmacy

Why:
- be ready for high school reunion in Sep 2013;
- be ready to look great for 1st tire photo July 2013.
- be in size 10 or 12 by Cruise in Jan 2013!
- Be ready to run the marathon on the Great Wall of China on 1 May 2013

What happens if I don't do this:
If I don't get and stay thinner and fitter then:
- I will likely get diabetes and other health issues
- I will not feel good about myself and Will have low self esteem and be in a downward spiral.
- I will not have energy to do my work==> won't get promotions or interesting positions offered to me
- I will feel like a giant in the land of petites here in China and not get out to see the world here because I would feel ashamed and not have energy
- my jewelry will not fit ( and I won't get more for fear of it not fitting)
- my husband will not find me attractive and will not be proud of me
- I would not fit into an Army uniform in case I got called up for service
- I would be Obese and have to pay higher health insurance and life insurance rates.
- I would have to have special made big uniforms and shirts at work and also special chairs that hold the weight
- I would not fit in the airplane seats and would have to ask for seatbelt extenders

Hey Sarah :)

I am hanging my head in shame here :( I am sorry i have been such a shitty friend but i'm back and raring to go!!!!
So so proud of you for always being so awesome and keeping with it. I just know you will inspire me to get back on it.

I'm loving your goals.........I have some too :)

Xoxoxoxoxo

Happy new year Trusvyler, Anna banana and Kate, Maryanne , Cate and anyone else reading this! Thanks for your encouragement as we all start the year together on this journey of our life! I looke back at where I was on 1 jan 2012 and was proud to see 203 was my weight, and now I weighed in today at 174...right at 30 pounds lost in the year...not big by some standards, but big enough for me, and a good slow transition to my lifestyle now and in the future. My goal is to lose another 30 pounds by the end of the year. Interesting though, my husband has requested that's I don't lose any more...he thinks I'm getting on the edge of anorexia (no chance of that's I can assure you!). I may change my weightloss goal...may not. I will just continue what I'm doing and continue to train for the marathon and see where that takes me.
One thing about it, I know I am healthier than I was in Jan 2011, or Jan 2012...and at the end of the day, it's really all about health (ok it's about the way I look too...but that is secondary...most days!)
So lets make 2013 a great one!

Sarah

Hey Sarah ! ....Happy 2013 gal.~ I'm glad U are back - I so look forward to your progress ( U are such an inspiration & solid support ...)

Hope your tummy-bug settles , ...but on the plus-side- stomach-flu usually means a pound or two gone (with the couple-days of low-cal )...

Great work on maintaing & not-gaining thru your Xmas season - does' feel good to come thru Xmas WithOUt tighter pants !! lol.... that took some planning & dedication to keep up healthy choices while away & with all the Xmas festivities.

I think your plan of steady-as-she-goes for 2013 sounds excellent! keeping up the exercise & healthy eats...and your body-weight will level out just where it is meant to be at your optimal healthy/fit weight - the losing is slower in "middle-age" gals like us... but it is still possible- just takes more time... and the closer you get to goal-weight...the less your body wants to give up any weight-as you are so close to where you should be.

Luv your 2013 goals - ...I'll have to chek out the "bellamy" calorie goal.. (that's not one I've heard of...) , and "dishing up nutrition" podcast sounds interesting.... I'll be needing some new podcasts for this year - & some new food ideas sounds just right !
View attachment 19517

U sure have some excellent motivation for 2013- Cruise,Marathon, Tire Photo, and high-school re-union... and they are spread thru the year- so U can just move from one right on to the next- truly a recipe for success !!

Fear of illness/especially diabetes is a big one for me too - I hold my breath each year at my annual check-up when the doc goes over my lab results- there is a lot of diabetes in my family history - there is some new research that shows early type-2(obesity) diabetes can be slowed/reversed with weight-loss/diet/exercise... but still far wiser to just live healthy & prevent it developing at all.

& 30lbs. loss over this past year is great ! you are getting so close to goal /ideal/healthy....... and so many medical reports confirm that more gradual rate of loss is far easier on your body/organs than losing too fast... so keep up your wise & healthy ways my friend...U are right on schedule !

lol -yes , it IS all about the HEALTH...but those smaller pants DO feel ( & LOOk) so good ! So here's to our on-going journeys - & a 2013 - full of healthy choices.

Hey Maryanne,
What a nice post! Thanks so much for continuing to keep me motivated...by the way the 'bellamy" was a typo (autocorrect)...it was supposed to read Below My calorie goal! I think I have finally gotten rid of the stomach bug...that really took it out of me, but for the last couple of days I have just seemed so hungry...I've kept it healthy, but sure I'm not losing weight eating like a fiend!
My motivational targets throughout the year I do think will keep me on track...and gotta admit, that if I don't lose another pound, I'm starting to feel good about myself just the way I am...which is a big deal...really big deal! I'm liking my body in a size 14p or 12 bottoms and 12 or 10 blouse...at this point, I really want to continue to lose fat and gain muscle and little by little I'll get to my "level off" weight like you said.
Getting there one day at a time!

Good choices to you all!

Sarah
