running pain in side...

How do I avoid the running pain in my side which prevents me from going as far as I'd like to and sometimes even running at all...I'm new at running and feel it's the only way to burn off those extra pounds...but it keeps coming into affect when I run...I try not to eat anything close to running time, any tips?...thanks.

dont eat anything at least 3 hours before you run and if you are hungry eat only light food.
it can also be because you try more then you can, and it can be the problem.
try running less and get to the point where it doesn't hurt you and then slowly add more distance.
look if the pain is in your left side so its probably food if it hurt you in your right side its probably to hard for you to run so much.

Ok...thanks. I believe it's the combination of both, I tend to need a slow pace so not to trigger the stitch or pain in my side...will keep practising...

what you are getting is called a stitch, it can be because of eating to much before a run, running to fast down a hill or your breathing pattern. These all cause stresses on your diaphram. The most common reason is because of eating to early, but if you find you still get a stitch try to alter your breathing pattern. i.e. if you breath in when your left foot strikes the ground and you have a stitch try to breath out when your right foot strikes the ground.

Ok I will keep that in mind...in speaking about breathing, I went out this morning just for a 20 min run and I've always found my breathing to be really heavy or get out of breath fast...I had no stitch this morning because I didn't eat anything, but even when I start out slow...I'm an active person gym maybe 3-4 weekly but haven't really had my cardio up as much as I should have I'm just maintaining at this point. I'm working on those last 10 lbs I'm now starting to sprint or HIIT which I'll do for a little bit to get things in order...so over time I'm sure it'll all come together...thanks...
